Pacific Grove Golf Links
About
Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.
The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.
Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.
A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Should be notified on GolfNow that the greens were just aerated. Would have played elsewhere.
Went in for supper after. Were literally ignored. One waiter. We ended up leaving after 20 minutes of sitting at the table while others were struggling to get their orders taken.
no advisory
i was disappointed that an advisory wasn't communicated to the customer. my playing buddy and i were not notified that the greens were being plugged etc. being on a fixed income the $54.00 green fee is a chunk of change for me. if i would have been notified of the course conditions i would not have booked for yesterday and rescheduled for a later date. the most disappointing factor is that you knew when your greens keepers were going to do the work and pacific grove golf links didn't notify the golfers.
This is the poor man's Pebble Beach! I played my first round of golf here, when I was in high school! 1948! At that time it was 9 holes.
golf
My husband and I loved our experience at this golf course Planning on coming back soon
Best value in Monterey
Pacific grove is two distinct nine hole courses. Front nine is an unusual layout starting with 2 par 3, followed by 2 pat 4 and then 2 par 5s. The back nine is Pebble beach lite. Great ocean views and sand dunes and light house. Best value for price anywhere. Challenging for intermediate plus yet playable for hackers like me. No on course refreshments, limited rest rooms but a great day.
Little Pebble... What a gem!
Pacific Grove Golf Links is a fantastic little track that winds as a parkland style course on the front 9 through the neighborhood of Pacific Grove and transforms into a coastal links course for the final 9. It is a municipal golf course and still holds true to that "muni feel". I love a good muni track as it brings you back to the roots of the game. Playing alongside a local I was able to chat and learn a little about the course and learn some of its nuances. The course was fairly wet due to all the rain that the Monterey Peninsula has received this year but the course still performed fairly well with only some muddy spots and a couple fairways where ball plugged. The course is short and not too challenging and is perfect for walking. My favorite hole was the first par 5 on the back 9 that is a dog leg right that if you cut the corner sand dune allows for a short approach shot to the green and eagle opportunity - plus the view of the pacific doesn't hurt along with the oldest active lighthouse in California off the right side of the fairway. Overall, a fantastic experience I'll plan to play each time I make it back to the peninsula.
What a bargain and what a view!
18 holes of golf in the pricey Pebble Beach area for a bargain, and sweeping ocean views on the back nine.
Don't Play this Course after a round at Spyglass Hill
As the title of my review indicates, we played Pacific Grove after an awesome round at Spyglass Hill and Poppy Hills the day before...We attempted to have lunch prior to teeing off in the restaurant and the service was extremely slow and we felt as if we were inconveniencing the staff. The young man in the pro shop was very friendly, but somewhat confused that day and almost pushed out two 3 somes ahead of our group...As for the Golf Course, the rains affected the fairways and rough...no matter where the ball ended up, plugging was continually a problem. The greens were in pretty good shape for the most part. The pace of play was extremely slow and there were no Marshall's to oversee slow play offenders. Perhaps had we not just played two amazing courses i'd feel differently...regardles of this course being labled the poor mans Pebble Beach, given the option I would choose Black Horse/Bayonet as an alternative.
Bucket List check off
Wanted to play this course for many years, and was thrilled to be there on the one sunny winter day between storms this week. The course drained quickly and we were amazed that our feet stayed dry. We enjoyed the deer walking through the fairways on the front 9. Be sure to safely secure any snacks on the back 9 as the gulls will happily dig through carts and fly away with your lunch. This course continues to be a jewel, and we can't wait to get back to play again.
Great Value!
They call this course "the poor man's Pebble Beach" and that's a very accurate description. Half the course is along the ocean with beautiful views of the water, rocks and the lighthouse. Greens in good shape, although the grass was a little long (no roll) since it rained the day before (much needed in CA so no complaints there!) The only trouble hole was #16 which was so covered in bird excrement it was impossible to putt! We had a good laugh over it, but a serious golfer might not laugh so much.
Surprise! We punched the greens without telling you
Title says it all. Front 9 had 1/4 inch of sand.... Back 9 unbelievably bad condition. Surprise!!!! Reduced fee would have been appropriate.
Proceed with caution!
Carts were very bad! We had 3 carts for 18 holes. We had one guy playing in front of us. No one regulated the players. Staff was rude. Have played here many times and will not go back.
I payed thru golf now and they charged me again at the course!
Only 75 degrees
Play 18 with cart for less than the cost of 1 hole at Pebble, meeting new friends, 30-40 deer, pounding surf, iconic lighthouse in 75 degree weather made for a great afternoon. Yes, pace was slow and greens a bit long but when surroundings are this beautiful who cares.
