Rating 67.9

Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

A Must Play

First time playing this course. Been wanting to play it for quite a while and since I was going to be in Monterey I got a tee time. Front nine is very nice, a lot of trees but very nice layout

Back nine is more links, sand dunes and beautiful views of the ocean. Back nine, stay out of the dunes, it is very penal. Fairways, greens were in great shape. This is a course worth playing. For this area well worth the price, you won't be sorry.

Trees to sand

Really enjoyed the course going from trees to sand. Front nine totally different than the back nine. It is a relatively short course and I'm not a long hitter. Rarely do I/we play from the back tees.

This being the first time we ever played the course, some holes were difficult to maneuver. Recommend first timers buy a yardage book. Actually played to the wrong green on one hole.

Plenty of deer, and their droppings.

Plan on playing it again when in the Monterey/Pacific Grove area.

Great Course, Great Shape and Great Views

I would recommend this course to anyone on a budget that still wants to see great vistas along the Monterey Bay and Pacific Ocean. It is not a long course, but it is extremely nice with great greens and fairways. Course played very well with sand dunes, views of the lighthouse as well as Monterey Bay. Excellent price for the experience.

Nice Reprieve from the Central Valley Heat!

Left Fresno at 110 degrees and arrived in Monterey at 58 degrees. We had an 8:10 tee time and enjoyed every single minute. The front 9 meanders through housing away from the ocean. The back 9 is a links style tract with several holes on the very same ocean that you pay over $500 to see a few miles away. The course was in better shape than when I played several years ago and the greens were in great shape except for number 1 which seemed to have just been plugged/sanded. Overall, a HUGE value for the money!

Beautiful surroundings

One of my favorite courses in the area for the value and family of deer. The back nine is challenging. Just a fun course!

Favorite course in the area

Fun time playing with my husband, his son and his son-in-law, who was playing it for the first time. I always enjoy introducing this course to someone new. My only complaint is that I think it's rated too low for women, from the forward tees, compared to other courses of similar length with no forced carries or blind shots. The staff was especially nice.

So Beautiful

I will love this course. It is so beautiful.

It is easy to walk, I would like to walk next time, then I will enjoy more view.

People were playing slow but it was on Sunday, it is not too bad (4.5 hour).

Nice course, beautiful back 9.

Liked this course. Holes were very uneven in terms of difficulty. 218 yard par 3 (into the wind!) on a 5500 yard course. C'mon?

Some great views!

The course has some great views ! That is the only highlight.... Visiting from Maryland, confirmed club rentals were avialable, our group showed up and no clubs were avialable ! Staff "Thomas" jumped thru hoops and loaned us his own clubs to acomodate our foursome. Short course, can par the course with three clubs and a putter !

Ok but not great

Super slow play. Lots of Havercamps on the course. Some pretty holes on the back nine. Not really on the ocean, some holes across the road from the ocean. Greens ok. Good for muni course.

Amazing back nine!

Extreme friendly staff at the pro shop. Exceeded my expectations. Beautiful course with challenging greens. The back nine is simply amazing and it feels like you change to a whole new course. Definitely a must try. I would play here again.

Great course for the money. I have heard this course describe as the poor man's Spyglass. 9 holes inland, 9 holes on the ocean. Course was in good condition.
