The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch (previously known as Salinas Golf & Country Club) in Monterey boasts a reputation as "the friendliest club in the area." Opened in 1925, it's also known as one of the area's oldest clubs though they are loathe to label themselves as "traditional". The golf course sprawls across rolling countryside dotted with mature trees and the occasional water hazard. Originally opened as a nine-hole layout, the golf course may appear somewhat short at just over 6,200 yards from the back tees but don't underestimate its level of difficulty. It's a tight layout that demands accuracy, especially when navigating the small greens. There is plenty of variety at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, you may even find yourself using all the clubs in your bag. The golf course finishes with a stunning view of Salinas Valley from an elevated tee. The fairway slopes downhill to a well protected green guarded on the left with trees and on the right with bunkers.

Great staff, course is entertaining regardless of player level!

Kevin and Rod are very tentative to member and non-members, love the course, not quite sure the membership rates/fees are what I can afford at this time and although Golfnow.com makes it affordable and may not last much longer! I'll have to make do with what's available till then.....Great job!

One of the best courses in the Bay Area

Excellent condition. Rolling hills with a lot of elevation changes. This must be one of the best golf courses in the South Bay, and best of all it is not crowded at all.

Slice of Heaven !!

Course IS in pristine shape. We were able to finish our round in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Early morning golf, no waiting, no ball marks to fix, greens were rolled before our eyes. Just another great experience here at a great course. Thanks for opening this course to the public !! Great DEAL !!

Beautiful course and very close location if you are in Salinas area, i will highly recommend this excellent course.

The fairways , Greens and sand trap are in excellent condition. coursed design is great . each hole give you a different looks and make you think of how to play them. Very reasonable price and can be compared to some of the expensive course like Coyote Valley course or Bayonet and black horse. play the course and you will certainly enjoy your round.

rude staff

I've been here three times now and each time expect the staff will be a little more friendly but they continue to be stiff & rude they should just go back to a private club because they don't know how to deal with the public

Great deal on a classic and fun course

This course has only been private until recently, so public players will get a real treat, as this course is still being ran and maintained like it's a top tier private country club. Great dramatic holes with nice views, and every hole very approachable. Very classic feel (90 year old course, i think?) with the tricky par 5s on 9 and 18 that share a green in front of the clubhouse (my playing partner fired at the wrong flag, lol!). Favorites holes - #5 Tall Par 3, #10 Big hilly par 5

5 Stars, get a deal and have a ball at this gem nestled away in the Salinas valley!

interesting layout, small greens with not much slope

The greens were sanded when we played. That's about the only complaint I had. Small greens, not very long. Pretty enjoyable layout. Staff was very friendly and it wasn't crowded at all on a Saturday morning. The most challenging aspect was overhanging trees in the fairways, but considering the length of the holes (barely 6,000 yards) I don't think it was unfair. Well worth the money and I'll be back.

Fantastic Golf outing

The Salinas Golf & Country Club is a first class operation, and a must play adventure. From the moment we were greeted by your friendly staff, hit a few balls at the driving range, and putted a few warm up putts, it was evident this was a top notch operation. The course was in fantastic shape, with manicured fairways and the most beautiful greens I have ever played on. Everyone we met along our round was friendly and courteous. OUTSTANDING !!!

Challenging course with fast greens!

Played this course a handful of times, so still getting familiar with the nuances of each hole. Course knowledge is definitely a plus! Although the greens are small, they are definitely fast and challenging. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. Been waiting a long time for public access to this course! Highly recommended!

Great older track

This golf course has been around for some time. Tree-lined, short, tilted fairways with tilted, small and very fast greens. If you tee'd off with fairway metal-woods or even long irons it still would be a very good test.

Best Golf Experience Ever

This course is so awesome. The greens are better than PGA West or The Olympic Club. Super fast and a fun course. What really made this round stand out was Bill in the Pro Shop. I have been golfing for 35 years since the age of 5 and he was the friendliest starter I have ever encountered. As long as they continue to allow a select amount of public tee-times I will be back. I made sure I told the Pro what a great experience my foursome had, I believe his name was Rod. He was also an awesome dude. Can't wait to go back.

Best course in area

Best golf experience in sometime. Bill in the pro shop was the nicest guy ever. Greens were better than all courses I have ever played. That includes The Olympic Club and PGA West. I am going to spread the words to all my friends.; I can't wait to go back. These guys know how to run a country club. They are not pretentious at all. Love em'

Incredible value

The weather had been horrible the day before I played and the course was very moist but very playable as well. The greens were wet but consistent and true. I hope to get a little more distance in drier conditions next time there. Will play there whenever I can for the rates offered on GolfNow.

Beautiful course. Very fast greens. Friendly people.

Salinas is a beautiful, well manicured course. The greens are super fast but roll true and consistent. Nice older clubhouse. Friendly staff and golfers. Play was soft because of all the rain lately so we had some difficulty with fat shots because the clubs carved through like butter. Overall, was a great day!
