Need some TLC
I always love this course: interesting layout and just hard enough. But in real need of some TLC: some bunkers are full of water, others rock hard. Tee boxes are uneven and barren of grass. Rough is not mowed, so really easy to lose a ball that is only slightly off the fairway. For the amount they charge, this course should be kept better than it is.
March madness
Had a great day. Course was wet diue to the rain over the winter but still in ok shape. Tees were a little beat up.
Such a Shame
This was once a great course. It’s really depressing to see it in its current state of decay. Arnold would be disgusted. I don’t quite understand how a company with the pedigree of Troon can have a course like this in its portfolio. There is no longer someone to greet you at the bag drop so rather than leave my bag unattended I walk it in from the car. The range was never good (200yds. straight uphill) but now it’s a disgrace. There are no mats but there is very little grass. It takes some searching to find a position for your stance and the ball. It does, however, prepare you for your upcoming experience at the course’s tee boxes. The fairways are in respectable condition considering the wet winter we’ve had. The rough is US Open length. No fault there to the operators, again because of the severe winter. They’ll be mowed soon, I’m sure, but for now keep your eyes on drives that leave the fairway. My group found two dozen lost balls within 15’ of the fairways. Most courses in these days of dwindling golf revenues still put energy and dollars into the greens. Here competing grasses—poa?—have invaded. The landscaping that was once lush is now mostly weeds. The pond at the 16th green is nearly empty and quite ugly. They still have a plaque commemorating the LPGA events played at the once great track at the first tee box. Those were the days.
Dry 9....Wet 9
After mucho rain and only 3 days of sunshine...we decided to give it a shot (well numerous shots), and despite "cart path only", the fairways were very acceptable and the greens surprisingly fast and firm.. Weather sunny and a bit windy on front nine, but rain hung over and pelted us holes 10 thru 17.. But we toughed it out and the sun reappeared on the 18th tee. It was well worth it, and the babbling brooks and waterfalls were a nice addition.
Hiddenbrooke Jan 31
Considering the it is January, the course was in very good shape. The day started out fairly cool, but the sun came out later and it was beautiful.
Great course to challenge your focus
Love this course. The layout is great with every hole has its own characteristics. The course is very challenging for beginners / intermediate golfers and it requires you to plan ahead and focus before each shot. It was my first time here and I was told to expect the worst. But somehow we managed to survive it with a pretty decent scores. I think this is a course that I will use for my personal benchmark in the future!
Bring extra balls!
This Arnold Palmer designed course will challenge just about everyone. It has multiple forced carries and lots of hazards that will eat your golf balls if you stray off the fairway. Played from the correct tees it is a very enjoyable course. just know that any lapses in concentration will add some strokes to the score card.
Never get tired of this one.
It's my favorite SF Bay Area public course. There may (I repeat "may") be a couple others that rival the layout (although not all 18 holes) and natural beauty......but they are exorbitantly priced in comparison. I just love the course and will never tire of it. It's not the longest by any means, but the challenge, especially from the tips is wonderful. You must think and hit good shots. Very unforgiving but fair at the same time. If you play it for the first time, you'll have to overlook the less than quality bunkers (good sand is needed in most) and many of the teeboxes. They need work, but what you get for the money in terms of the course is too good to complain
Nice course for the money
Staff was got me out before a holiday scramble. Pace of play was terrific until I caught up to the scramble ( they started on 1-13) on 15. Even then I played in just over 4 hours. Fairways were good. Greens were fast and true. Tee boxes were not in as good condition as the rest of the course.
Still, very enjoyable. I’ll play there again, for sure.
Nice Round! Why so wet?
Had a great time at Hiddenbrooke but was puzzled by how wet the course was. Had an 8:36 tee time and there was still fog so you expect everything to be moist but there were many places on the course that were downright soggy. I can only assume that the irrigation system had been over used since we have not had any rain recently. The soggy conditions did not ruin the round but was highly unexpected.
GOLFNOW
The course was ok,tee boxes were ugly, lots of mud for reasons unknown, but really Golfnow messed up big time by overbooking on Sunday morning 9/21/2018,staff was really great, nothing but friendly people everywhere, too foggy but not the courses fault.
Beautiful day
Just finished a great round at Hiddenbrooke, which is in great shape, including the greens. One downside is there seems to be some drainage issues on a few holes, where there was huge wet and muddy spots. Note: It hasn't rained in weeks, if not longer, this is a drainage/irrigation concern. The back nine also got VERY slow due to a twosome of senior players who didn't offer to let anyone play with them or pass them, etc. That's fine -- but there was no marshals out there to help speed things up, which was an issue. That said, it was lovely out, and the course was mainly in good shape (the bunkers could use a bit more sand) and I'd happily play it again soon.
Morning round
Good course, greens were quick and pure. Tee boxes and bunkers need a giant makeover.
Golf God
Wonderful layout. Some areas had no water and others had too much to the point if sinking in the turf like a bog. The tee boxes were a little rough. Greens are very good and I really like the thick rough. If you hit it in the rough you should be penalized at least half a stroke .
father son at hiddenbrooke
pros; course layout, challenging, greens excellent condition and challenging, staff very nice, 10 yard apron around greens conducive to pitching/chipping-nice lies, most fairways and first cut nice and plush. Tim the grounds keeper very friendly and motivated with enthusiastic ideas to better the course
cons: some black tees out of commission or blocked by trees or under sanding repair, bunkers somewhat thin and grainy-more and better sand would be nice, fairways in spots bare and burned dry brown grass, members playing talk too much around the greens while waiting. driving range is poor and limited-for course of this caliber practice range is worse than a farmers field
Good day of golf, but deteriorating conditions
I walked this hilly course so my blisters are just now healing. I need the exercise and haven't been getting it pushing my foot to a pedal. Hiddenbrooke is always challenging with it's altitude changes, tall grasses, and sometimes windy conditions but I have to say I was disappointed with the lack of care for the course and perceived deterioration since golfing hear last year. The tee boxes especially need work. In several cases the boxes were hacked away with no real place to get a good footing. There were also numerous second cut sections where the tractor didn't pick up the cut grass leaving it to ferment and turn yellow and making it easy to lose a ball.
I scored well and my partners enjoyed the great weather, but I believe there is plenty of room for course improvements.
