Bunkers...no sand...
The gentleman working in the pro shop answered the few questions I had with great enthusiasm and made sure I understood his answers. He made an extra effort to help me find an item which is always awesome. The Starter and cart staff are always ready to help when I arrive at the bag drop off. Way above standard for the area in my opinion and one of the reasons I keep coming back. The service of the staff that work here is awesome.
The tee boxes could use a bit of work. The white tees had quite a few in which a decent stance couldn't be achieved. I understand there may be some un-level boxes but there were a few that had almost foot sized holes in which your feet could vary in depth almost a whole 2 inches. The bunkers also could use a little sand. I found my self in 3 bunkers (holes 1,11,12) and in trying to play a splash flop shot I hit mud below. On hole 11, I hurt my wrist a bit finding a drainage pipe only an inch under the surface.
The greens were micro-punched but the sand filling the holes wasn't really consistent giving the ball a bumpy roll. I'm sure this will be fixed here in a few weeks as the weather warms up.
A Go-To for This Seasonal Visitor
A week of rainy and cold weather had left Hiddenbrooke a bit overgrown, and delayed some aerating/sanding activity. . . BUT that did not diminish the golf round at all. The starter and staff had given fair warning, specifying the greens that might not yet be perfect, but the fairways were well mowed, the trimming of overgrown and (now luxurious) foliage and flora, lifting and lightening of all the sand traps had been accomplished. Three bands of fairway, light rough and deep rough mowed and trimmed; greens mowed and rolled -- and the recently sanded ones had been swept that morning. These folks take immaculate care of this course; they are accommodating and friendly -- even giving me a reduced rate when GolfNow's reservation had not been transmitted to the pro-shop computer. Prime experience -- and a great day of golf!
Hiddenbrooke GC
Surpriced to see a low priced hot deal for this course. Well, it was because greens were recently aerated. Needless to say, putting was no fun at all! Rest of the course seem to be in excellent condition. Had I realized greens were recently aerated, I would have played at a different golf course.
PLAYED ON 3/14. COURSE AERATED
The back nine was closed (aeration in progress), so I played the front nine twice.
The maintenance staff were working hard, clearing up the aeration plugs, regardless of the fact that it was raining.
The course conditions appear to be improving significantly - almost there!
Fun day with my son.
Very fun place to play but the tee boxes are very uneven.
Please Help This Course
What an amazing layout and awesome area for a golf course, but it’s completely run down...tee boxes are dirt patches, sand traps are rock piles, fairways are inconsistent and the greens, while not terrrible, are filled with divots. I want to love this course, as do so many people who have also written on this site, but nothing seems to change. There are some great holes though and the course does provide a reasonable challenge from that stand point. I guess the issue is that it’s not a terrible course, it’s just that this course could be so so much more.
Very disappointed
Wow extremely disappointed in this course. There is a LOT wrong here... driving range is almost 3 blocks away from course, the staff wasn’t that helpful or friendly, they tell you to expect a 4 1/2 round but that quickly turned into a 5 1/2 hour round and the marshal didn’t enforce pace of play on a group that was at least 2 holes behind the group in front of them, the cart girl was talking/yelling to someone on her phone or yelling to the groups behind us (we were backed up 3 groups) asking what they want to drink while I was teeing off and putting in another hole, 15 out of the 18 tee boxes either didn’t have grass on them or had mounds on them.
Great course
The course is in good shape. I paid very reasonably for an early tee time . I recommend the course.
One of the best designed courses in the greater SF Bay Area
It is one of the most challenging courses in the area. Every single shot required golfer’s full attention otherwise she / he will find troubles in the hazards or water. It is worthy of a professional tournament level course. I loved this golf course when it was in its prime and still love it today, hoping it gets a bit more TLCs.
However, in the past several years, the maintenance has gone to almost disrepair.
- Most bunkers are not maintained. There is NO sand in them and often are played as “ground under repair”.
- Most of the tee boxes are chewed up, crowned, uneven.
- the greens are spotty with different kind of grasses, some are just bare.
Many golfers are skipping this venue due to its lack of maintenance. Because some feel disrespected.
I hope that management / owner can pay some attention to the minimum maintenance and bring the course back to its deserving winning reputation.
Sincerity, Best wishes
Getting better
Troon took over course management several months ago and there are definite signs of improvement. Bunkers (at least the ones I visited) had sand in them, as opposed to previous rounds where it was like hitting off of clay. The rough was actually manageable and not left at U.S. Open depths. Took a chance playing on a holiday, but the pace was good and we (a threesome) were allowed to play through on the turn. Oh, yeah...getting birdie on the 18th always leaves me in a good mood!
Relax and Enjoy
First Tee included 3 deer and a great PAR. This is a fun course, like 2 different 9's. Front is in the valley and back 9 is on the top of the hills. There is one of everything in on this course. Have fun but you may need extra balls.
A very good golf course
Tee boxes could use some work. Fairways and Greens are excellent. Greens are fast, Bunkers are currently getting attention some have been redone and have been filled with new fluffy sand
Great Winter Conditions & Value
Great overall experience this week at Hiddenbrooke. Played with my Dad, and had a blast. For mid-winter the course looked great, fairways were awesome, and the greens rolled true. Highly recommend this course.
