Slow play group of 5
Somehow we got stuck behind a group of 5 which could be okay if they were making any effort to pick up their pace. They were not. I spoke with the clubhouse guy and he assured me that’s “not supposed to happen”, but it did.
The course is fantastic and other than the remarkably frustrating group in front of us ruining the day, I would recommend this course.
What happened to this gem?
Having played here several times when the course was managed by ClubCorp & Troon, even in the winter months of dormant Bermuda the course was well maintained, priced justifiably, and worth the drive from the north metro Atalanta area. The course I and my 3 playing partners experienced was unrecognizable to what it once was.
- Upon arrival and check-in, we learned that there were no carts available and we had to wait an additional 20 mins following our tee time to load up on a cart that came straight from 18 with no cleaning or charging.
- driving range was a dirt patch at best with minimal sightings of what could be considered grass
- Dormant Bermuda is one thing, but significant areas of dirt and rocks where grass should be was alarming.
- Bunkers had little to no sand with netting commonly exposed.
- Greens rolled true, but have not been maintained to repair a substantial volume of pitch marks which clearly have accumulated over weeks, not within the day of play
- Pace of play was ignored with no Marshall monitoring. Afternoon groups consistently came to a tee box observing there are now 4 groups on the hole. Neither skill nor golf etiquette were observed to be contributing factors. Either the lack of cart availability or an overloaded tee sheet without sufficient buffer between groups were the drivers.
- Many groups were witnessed ceasing their round due to the above stated inadequate course conditions and operations.
- Several carts weee abandoned, replaced on course, or towed
It’s a tragedy to know what The Frog once was as compared to what it has now become. Simply stated, golfers can enjoy a better experience, course conditions, operations, and pace of play at a local municipal course (e.g., city of Atlanta). This was a disappointing experience, and pathetic ways of business to continue charging the current rate if this is not improved on all fronts.
Great afternoon for golf
The course was in excellent condition for the time of year mid-December. The bunkers was well maintained, putts rolled true, some greens bit quicker than others. Over all great course to enjoy.
Slow day but great course
Second time here. I played on Christmas Eve which may be why it was slower than usual. There was no starter/marshall & we started about 40 minutes later due to a frost delay.
I had a great time last time I was here but due to the lack of a marshall keeping pace, we finished our round in 5+ hours. The group in front of us were taking forever and we couldn't do anything about it.
Great course overall though. The conditions weren't perfect due to weather but that's nothing to knock the course for.
Pretty solid
I had higher expectations than what we experienced, but all in all it was a good one. The pace of play was great. The layout is very good and has some great challenging designs. The greens were in great shape. I know we are in late season, but the fairways weren't in the best shape, most due to tons of unfixed divots all over the place. I'm not sure if they had a tournament before we played or not so that may explain the divots if so. Lastly, the clubhouse staff was horrible. We came in at the turn and they all but refused to make us food. The first thing the lady said is "you won't have time for anything if you're making the turn." So we got hot dogs, which seemed like an inconvenient thing to ask for. When we asked for onions you would've though we asked for 100lbs of boiled crawfish. Very rude, and not very friendly. We all wanted to grab a burger or a sandwich, however we were essentially told they wouldn't make it for us. I liked the course, probably would play again because of the course quality. But don't expect a happening and decent clubhouse atmosphere.
Great course
The frog has always been one of my favorite courses.. In the past it’s been in immaculate shape but now it has deteriorated to a notch lower, hope to see you return to its prime form soon. Still an above average place to play right now.
Love me some Frog
Great course! Good condition. Fun to play but one group made it slow. Marshalls?
Great course
Near perfect except for the slow group in front that held up everyone without ever considering letting groups through.
Worn Out but fun
Great course, but "cart path only" due to recent rains made for a long, hard day on a difficult, long and hilly course. Otherwise, very enjoyable!
