Rough is ridiculous
The course would be really good and fun to play if they just managed the rough. It’s ridiculous. You’re a foot off the fairway after a good drive and you could lose the ball — can’t see it unless you’re standing over it. If you find it, you’re lucky if you can get a club on it to advance it 75 yards. Cut the darn rough, which would make this course much more fun and faster to play. Just cut it and boost your ratings, please!!
Great value!
Course was in great shape! Greens in good conditions. Rough was too high and killed the pace of play looking for balls.
Challenging, excellent course cut thru the woods
Part of a public park with lots of tennis courts, this course has a fine driving range, good carts, and nice bar. Grass was good, and driving accuracy at a premium due to fairly narrow tees shot demanded. Bermuda greens were a bit soft and slow, but certainly acceptable.
Great course needs to cut the rough
The course is in great shape (greens, sand traps, tees), but they need to cut the 3"+ rough down a bit. It would help the pace of play since it cost us at least 30 minutes in the round just looking for balls that ventured into the second cut because you can't see the ball unless you're almost standing over it . Hit 'em all in the fairway and you'll be fine!
Rough is rough
Overall for a municipal course it’s a good value. The rough is very thick. Really hard to find balls.
Surprise!
True surprise the condition and the course layout. Very good course for beginners and an immediate players.
Joy to tee off here
This is a wonderful course. The fairways and greens are in great shape. The rough with the thick grass can be challenging.
Great track for the area
Somehow hadn’t heard of Sugar Creek but glad I booked as soon as we saw it. Had a bit of a rough start with folks piled up at the first tee, having to switch carts for no reason to start, and taking a while to get checked in. But once we got out there this course might be in the best condition of any ATL metro course under $75. It’s a fairly tight course with a ton of trees lining every fairway. A fair amount of differentiation between holes but a lot of straight driver shots for most. Food at the bar was excellent, carts were great with GPS. Only true negative was that some regulars were behind our group and started yelling that we were playing slow but we were on the tail of the group in front of us and they were piled up for at least 2 holes ahead. Would certainly recommend and will plan to be back.
Sugar Creek
The only “complaint would be the cut of Rough. Due to the type of grass used, balls settled down and were difficult to find. I found balls buried in the rough while looking for my balls.other than that, it was a nice golf course, friendly staff and I did not feel rushed. “Cart Path Only” extended the round considerably.
Course wet, but in good shape.
The course was in good shape, overall, but there's a bit of standing water from all the rain. As a result, tee shots didn't roll much, making it play longer. Had a frustrating issue with my cart on a hole that was cart path only, because the sign in the clubhouse incorrectly indicated it wasn't cart path only. Layout is interesting
Great course
Course in great shape with green fairways and greens are good to.
Golf day
We've played the course a few times and always pleased with conditions. Delayed 30 min from opening tee was disappointing. Marshalls need to enforce pace of play. Staff was very courteous but getting a drink at the turn was slow and costly.
Would definitely recommend the course!
Fine Course - Felt Weird...
Had the first tee time of the day at 7:30AM, however the clubhouse doesn't open until 7AM. I wanted range balls to warm up but was rushing to get started on time. They need to open at least an hours prior to their first tee time being offered. The starter was incredibly friendly, the rest of the staff not so much. Near the interstate so lots of traffic noise while playing.
The course was extremely wet, not sure about rain during the week as I was just passing through ATL for a day, but this course seemed to hold alot of water. Everything needed mowing, but again this could be due to weather recently that I was unsure of. No ranger or beverage cart was seen. Pace of play non issue since we were the first tee time of the day. It is a golf and tennis club, so as you approached holes closer to the tennis courts, you could clearly hear all the tennis players and music that was being put on for an event which was a bit disruptive to the golf.
Finally, I thought it was strange that they had those donation challenges on par 3s set up on 2 separate holes for the same organization. Never seen more than one person out there doing that. Probably wouldn't play here again, but reasonably priced golf in Atlanta is hard to come by.
