Butternut Creek Golf Course

About
Mountain views can be found on all 18 holes at Butternut Creek Golf Course, located in north Georgia. Elevation changes, mounds and undulating greens are all part of the challenge on the Bill Watts-designed golf course. No two holes are alike and water comes into play on 13 holes. With four to six tee boxes on every hole, the golf course can play as short or as long as you like. Butternut Creek is owned and operated by the Union County Recreation Department.

Worst round at Butternut Creek
We usually love this course. Today, the starter told us there was a women's scramble ahead of us. He told us it would probably take 4 and 1/2 hours to play. Since we had prepaid, we had no choice. I saw someone else starting on #10 to avoid this. I asked if we could do the same. But he told us that he was playing only 9, and if we wanted to play 18, we had to start on one. Why??? This is a rural course on a Thursday. Besides the ladies ahead of us, there were very few other golfers on the course. There was NO reason to not let us start on the back, especially since he knew the problem we were going to be facing. I have played dozens of courses across the country, and have been allowed to start on the back numerous times when scrambles or tournaments were starting on the front. It took us 4 hours and 45 minutes to finish, and that is only because the ladies in front of us didn't play the last two holes to avoid some coming bad weather. Otherwise it would have been well over 5 hours. We had to wait on 16 straight holes. Miserable. This could have been avoided by the starter, but he didn't care about the enjoyment of our round.
great course in the GA mtns
Played Butternut for the first time. Beautiful, well-maintained course. Got on easily, played ok but it's a forgiving course. Only surprise was that there was no drinking water or ball washing available at any point.
Hilly!
Not a level fairway on the course. Hit it straight or you’re in trouble. Lots of fun. Course was in very good shape. The ranger was very friendly and offered tips on how to play certain holes.
Great value
The course was nice with beautiful views although the fairways were rough at times. The restaurant was a nice break after the front nine. We will definitely return!
Great course, bring a GPS or range finder.
First time but not my last. It's obviously early spring and greens were just aerated but otherwise course was in great shape. Don't even think about walking. Course is hilly yet fair. Played 18 with another single in just below 3 hours. I'll be back when it greens up but the burmida is really not bad to hit off of when yellow.
Good Value
Great course for the money. The food in the Club House is fantastic!
