About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

great golf course
condition was nice
recommend to friend
like play again
ok every now and then
Heard the course used to be worse. Greens will probably be ok in summer.. Be careful of rocks in places (can ding up clubs).
Lady in pro shop was nice.
Price ok for 18, not 9(I think only 3 dollars less).
Enjoyable round on a frosty morning
My wife and I arrived for a 9.18 t time. We were told the greens were frozen and asked to wait until 10.15. We were offered coffee and then allowed to start on time and as we approached the 1st & 2nd greens the groundstaff completed cutting. They were in amazing condition and as the weather warmed up we played some good golf. Thoroughly enjoyed the round which we finished in 2h 30m. We'll be back in the summer.
Complete dump
This course is a complete dump. The staff is very unfriendly, and the course is atrocious. Avoid at all costs!!
Lanier Golf Club review
Arrived a little early and the starter allowed us the option to go off and get in front of league...Thank you! Excellent service!
I was hesitant for a long time to play this course due to the ratings and reviews. Taking into account that this is winter golf I'd say the conditions were good. Greens excellent. Fairways good. Traps were inconsistent with some in good shape, others mud. Tee boxes a little bare in places but ok. Cart functioned properly.
Course did not look difficult when starting off, lots of wide open space. We soon found it was more difficult with water on a number of holes and traps surrounding almost every green. We played the white tees which was supposed to be 6,130 yards, but most had been moved up and it was most likely under 6,000 yards.
I will be back in the spring to play in greener conditions.
Nice old school golf
Love the layout. Greens were fast and smooth. Not too difficult. Will be back soon!
Fun course!
Course was in good shape for winter golf. 60 degrees on December 26,,,,, can't beat it!
A jewell on the north side
Lanier Golf Club has been around for a pretty long time, but still is somewhat unknown. It does have an up and down past, but the course is now in excellent condition and is a great value. Not extremely difficult but challenging with fast greens. Give this course a try!
Interesting Layout
Lanier golf Club is tucked away just south of Lake Lanier (due west of the Buford Dam) and provides a good experience for a bargain price. My only complaint is that the course doesn't seem to be listed in the Georgia courses for posting GHIN scores.
good old style golf course!
greens are excellent now. roll great and quick. fairways were pretty good - decent lie most of the time. most of the tee boxes needed work, but were ok.
Good value
The course had exceptionally well maintained greens. The overall course was very nice, first time playing, didn't know what to expect. Very satisfied. Slow play due to being stuck behind two elderly couples nothing you can do about that.
This course is an older course
It l has some challenges and blind shots. Overall the course is fair and the greens were smooth and rolled true. The fairways are a little rough but well maintained. The pace was a little slow but as a twosome we played in just over 4 hours.
Enjoyable Midweek Round
This is a hidden gem I found not too far from home. The price is affordable, the course is in good shape, and the greens are fabulous even if they don't break as much as they look lol. I'll replay this course without hesitation
WOW
Played years ago and it was horrible. Now it is awesome! Will be playing here rom now on as long as they keep it in great shape!
Great Course for price.
Pleasantly surprised by conditions of course. Enjoyed it and will continue to go back!
Best conditions of any courses in area and price range
I was pleasantly surprised how good the course conditions were at Lanier. Fairways and tees were above average, but the greens were excellent! The Mini Verde Bermuda greens rolled smooth and true with average speed and no sign of ball marks. I know the greens had grow in problems in the past, but these are some of the best I've putted in Atlanta.
Staff was friendly enough and a very attractive blonde lady checked me in.
If you haven't tried this course in a while, it's worth a trip back.
A wonderful classic layout with conditions to match.
GREAT GREENS!
Very pleasantly surprised by the condition of the course. The greens are as good as it gets. Well worth the money. Tees, fairways and greens very good, bunkers fair. The greens are what makes this course and it is apparent they have done what was needed to bring them back to a high standard. One month ago I would have said the greens were fair, what a change.
Great old school course
Lanier golf club is an old school design which is great. Not overpowering with length but strategic. The course is in great shape, green and fairways. If you have not played here I would tell you this is a must.
