Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

Good Outing
It was a beautiful day but quite windy. The course was in decent shape but lots of hard-pan areas in the fairway. Greens were extremely fast except for the pine tree droppings from the pollen. My partner and I got paired up which we didn't expect. Would have liked to have played alone but it was pretty crowded. Overall, it was a pretty good outing with the exception of the movable impediment (snapping turtle) as seen in the pic. He/she must have been about 20lbs.
Golfers anonymous
It's a great course because it's mainly flat which is hard to find in Georgia, but for the busiest day to play being the masters weekend, not having a beverage cart girl was completely disappointing. The greens were solid as a rock but slow at the same time when the uneducated front desk staff said they were "super fast." I'll definitely come back here and play as the fees are low, but management definitely needs to add directional signage as it's super confusing just trying to find the first hole.
Lanier first time
Pace was slow even for a noon tee time. Edges down the fairways was aerated and not mentioned when I booked my reservations. First time playing this course and will go go back on a weekday to get a rhythm on the course
Great Value
Excellent layout, the first hole is brutal, and is a rough way to start your day. It's a great course I will continue to return
Great greens
Greens require good putting skill. Nice mix of challenging holes.
Friendly staff. Too bad a developer is going to build on this property.
Bang for buck
Greens were in great condition. Great staff. Lakes were in pretty rough conditions but overall enjoyable.
Don't pack your tee times
Course set up is nice but course condition is not good in some areas due to drainage. Granted, all of Atlanta's courses have suffered but pace of play doesn't even allow you to stop and repair your divots.
Had to skip a hole per the Marshall since we were not keeping up with the twosome in front of us and were on every green before the threesome behind us were teeing off. Oh, and we were playing off two sets of tees.
We played ready - but I guess not ready enough. To avoid rushing each shot, I'll think again before booking here again.
Sunday March 23rd
Winter conditions. Greens very good, fairways dormant and wet.
nice course
we played right after a light rain. course was in decent condition. pace of play was good
Great course, greens like glass
We play here all the time and the course is nice, greens are faster than putting on the kitchen floor, cart paths are terrible and no beer girl, don.t offer coolers and if you bring your own cooler and beer they have a fit. they need a beer girl, either bring me beer or let me bring my own, this isn't the PGA
Not enough golf carts
I like to arrive early to warm up before the round like most people do so we got there hour and 15 mins before tee time to putt and hit range balls but we had to wait for hour and 10 mins for a golf cart. I was told we could drive down to the range which meant loading our clubs back up and driving to the range. I can never remember having to wait on a golf cart more than maybe 10-15 mins tops so I was a little ticked off as my round began but the staff didn't seem to care.
P.S
I'm a very patient person but after waiting 45 mins I could no long contain my displeasure
I'll go back
My first time at Lanier Golf Club was a good one. The greens were super fast (painted green this time of year). They were burning leaves when I started, blowing right in our faces on the first tee. The day got better as we got further away from the smoke. I look forward to playing the course with green grass and more forgiving greens.
Good value
Greens were fast with a few bad spots. Fairways were in pretty bad shape due to winter weather
greens are rock hard
the new greens they have are rock hard and so fast it's unfair.. if you have a us open to get ready for then you might want to play here..
Greens were great and fast
Coarse was soggy but so are all the other local courses. The 18 month old greens were in great shape. Fast but true.
Rude Managment
We showed up 35 min early and 5 min before out tee time the manager proceeded to come out to berate us and threaten us to not let us play at all. After a bunch of back and forth we finally teed off and when we were in the fairway of the first hole he turned on the sprinklers on us. All because we booked a hot deal from golf now. I guess those customers are not as good as the others. Needless to say we will never go back. The greens were diseased and the cart paths were in shambles. A lot of the fairways had bare patches.
Great Course!
New greens are coming in nicely. Great course for the money.
Decent course for the money
It was way too cold to play, but we toughed it out. Bunkers need repair; hope that occurs in the spring. Greens look way better than earlier in the year. I think I only saw one or two rough patches. I think it was $18 a man, so definitely worth it.
