About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

Dont Pay over $35
This course can be entertaining, especially if it isn't crowded. This course is not worth more than $35 due to the conditions (Greens).
Very Poor Greens
Greens in HORRIBLE condition. Course is waaaay over priced. I will never play this course again, even if it was free. Played it several times about 10 years ago, when it was in excellent condition. It's a shame the owners have let this course get in this extremely poor position. Very disappointing!
Awesome Course
Great course, challenging. You will use all of your clubs and have to shape your shots. Very fun place to play.
Great course for the money
Jun 2014: I played w/ a friend on a Thursday afternoon in less than 4 hrs and never ran into another group. Course has a very fair layout with no blind drives, good length from whites and blues, big greens and a nice mix of water and pine trees. 80% of the greens are excellent. 20% have sandy bald spots or are being repaired. Rough is easily playable and fairways are in excellent summer bermuda shape. This is my go-to local course for weekday fast play at a great price. Practice facility is excellent as well. Staff is friendly in the proshop, on the course and at the cart depot.
Storms closed the course
The course was in good condition and we were playing better than normal. Light rain did not bother us, however, when it began lightening they closed the course. I am waiting for a credit for my round. We plan to go back again this Friday.
Great course
This is our go to course everything was in good shape except several of the greens had sand making them impossible to put. It is a shame they are going to plow it under to build houses better get your round in this summer I think by fall it will be gone.
Worse greens I have ever played on
I have played this course a couple of times last year. Got on it today, and for paying $50 for what they call "greens" was absurd! Their practice green was in great shape, but the only one. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED! On top of that, it took over 5 hours to complete a round. Saw on the back side that a group was easily 2 holes behind, and backing everyone up. The marshal drove by us, and didn't say one word on what was going on, and why we were pulling up on the group infront of us on every hole. Heck, he didn't even look at us, just keep on driving. The only good thing about this course was the snack bar and having a hotdog, and the guy was super nice. I play a lot of the public courses around the Gwinnett, and by far this is the worse one I have played. Collins Hill is in better shape this course! Just know, I will never come back to this course to play again. Even their website is a joke with "Our greens are looking great!" (from 2013)...
Worst green management ever and unhelpful old woman's service on guest's request flexibly
You don't know how to maintain the green properly by season,do you? Do benchmarking other decent courses.
If guest request a little difficult favor, don't let them just say no"It's our policy" or call website by yourself since i don't know the phone number.
Try to show sympathy, concern and find solution for long term view.
She just cared american people while abandoning me that is unacceptable attitude of service.
Guest was in embarrassment and anger due to a staff's ignorable and unhelpful attitude at reception.
Train her severely for not showing negative expression but showing warm, patient, cooperative between your management to every race.
Hot deal rate guests have a right to drive a single cart if they want cause the fee is included in the amount.
No other places asked to share carts with unknown player even at the same teetime.
Charging additional fee is not only answer to me but try to arrange the best way to share carts between americans and foreigner(3 player situation who have different language)
They know that day's situation.
Staff who just smiling faces with no ability to solve any uncomfortable situations must not be at reception.
Waiting for your course's any change or development.
Thanks for concern
Half of greens is dead.
It is not a normal condition of green to charge normal price.
Play Elsewhere
I have played this course for the last 10 years. It used to be a very well maintained track and sorry, it has become one big "Pot Bunker". Not sure what they spent a couple years ago for new greens but 15 - 16 of them are gone and will not come back! Have ponds all over the course yet no water being put out! Ball washers......come on, if your not going to have a working ball washer on each hole of the course, then put them on the golf cart. The simple things that an avid golfer can appreciate and does not mind paying the going rate for a round.....Please consider other courses for spending your hard earned money. You will pay minimum $40 to play and at best, it is worth maybe $10.....that's just for use of golf cart. To those that run Lanier Golf Club, you have little time to save this course with current maintenance schedule....your letting a diamond become the rough! I also would like to comment on the fact you let a "6-some" play! Regardless of the circumstances, these folks have rarely played golf as they would not let my foursome play through until we jumped them on back 9. The course marshall who was nice enough guy, did not say a word to them even though #7 had 3 groups on the hole. I called the proshop from the hole and explained they needed to send marshal out to move them into two individual groups or chaperone them so marshal could direct others to play through. The pro shop told me to talk to the group myself! That is not my job nor why I am spending my money at your course. I have seen to many times confrontation and bad endings when groups are alerted to their slow play and they should let others through.....just sayin, you might have business today but believe me, your parking lot was empty when I cane at 11 am......clear sign that other avid golfers and loyal customers have made the same decision as I just have.
Great overall but!
Please help these greens! The course, pace of play, amenities and location were fantastic. Just take a 2 put on every green though because the greens were terrible. Not the size, shape or contour just the condition.
Can't beat it
I saw many of the negative reviews during the week and was expecting to see a course in poor condition. While a number greens were not in great shape, overall the course played wonderfully. I'm not sure what people are expecting for $35 but the value and enjoyment factor was certainly there. If I had to pay $65 or more for this, I would review it differently and be more attuned to a lot of the little things but for the cost, it was an amazingly enjoyable day of golf and my playing partner felt the same way.
Greens in Poor Condition
Less than 3 or 4 greens were actually in playable condition. The rest had been sanded and appeared to be dying.
Love the layout.
Beautiful old school course. Great greens, and nice fairways. A must play for any avid golfer.
Dead grass on greens
Most greens had a lot of dead grass and dirt. Ball cleaning devices contained no water and many werected broken. Fairways were Rock hard.
Old
Course has a nice layout, but fairways & Greens (Slow & Bumpy) need work. We paid $54 and this should of been a $25 - 30 course. People were nice, but we will play Legacy at lake lanier next.
Lanier is a disaster
Greens are painted and fairways are rock hard where there is actual grass. Don't pay more than $30 until they decide to maintain it. Too bad really. I like that course.
Could be a nice course
The pace of play was extremely slow. The course has a nice lay out and could be a nice place to play. However it looks like it is lacking professional care.
Way too slow for a Friday afternoon
It took over five hours to play 18 holes. Two sets of twosomes teed off in front of us and the starter even commented that they had been slammed since 7 am ... so you'd think he would have at least figured out to pair up the two two's.
Didn't see a ranger on the course until the 15th hole and he didn''t even come by.
Need to improve the management before I go back. The three other guys I was paired with said the same thing ... and they hadn't played the course for over 7 years.
Not a good way to earn repeat customers.
Lots of areas that are in dire need of repair in the fairways, etc.
Nice layout but.....,
I like the layout of the course especially in the summer months when the grass is thicker. But my last round was not fun. We played a 5 1/2 hour round. Plus no cart girl some of the staff super nice sone not so much.
