About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Lanier Golf Club in Cumming is a public championship course that is located just a half hour north of Atlanta. Opened in 1970, the course has undergone many renovations over the years that have increased the playability of the original layout. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels but it still offers a challenge, which is why in its past it has been chosen as a Georgia Amateur qualifying and U.S. Open qualifying course. There are tall trees along the fairways that will require a bit of accuracy and a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers also present a challenge. The occasional water hazard also comes into play. In addition to the golf course, Lanier G.C. has a driving range and short-game practice area that is open to the public as well.

Great value
Great course for value. Nice staff and not crowded.
Best Bang for the Buck
My son and I were reluctant to book the course after reading some of the reviews but decided to give it a try. Whatever issues there were with the greens have been corrected. From tee to green; great course with fair challenges. I've paid similar condition courses for nearly twice the price.
good course for the money.
Played a late Sunday afternoon round at Lanier and had a great time. Fairways were in great shape. Greens are a little dry in spots but a fun course to play. Great value later in the afternoon. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
relaxing round
we had a fun time out at lanier, fairways bunkers and greens in good shape, could use a little work around the edges, but all in all it was good value for money
ENjoyed the Course
Greens were inconsistent but all in all course was in pretty good shape. I think it's overpriced at 36.00 weekday afternoon and at 45.00 on a weekend. Good pace of play, done in a little over 4 hours, slower because of foursomes who never waved you through.
Nice layout
Well maintained course. Excellent value for the money.
Great course, wrong price
Been playing here since 2013. The prices are competitive with the othe courses around it ( hampton, chestatee, etc. $50+). I always enjoy the course and their wonderful chicken salad sandwich on the turn. Normally I would recommend this course to friends but due to the greens and course conditions that we played yesteray, I defintely would hold off on going until their greens are back to performance level. There were multiple greens that we played that were just like hitting into sand bunkers. Love ylthe course but need to drop prices while the greens are a mess like that, id spend up to $35 to play that course as is. $55 is just way to much for current course conditions.
Wide open in the summer heat - Greens patchy
Played on a lazy Saturday morning. The crowd had cleared up by our ~10:30 AM tee time and we played a very comfortable pace, taking time to practice a couple of putts each on the greens. The greens themselves weren't in the best shape with big variances in speed across different holes...fun course to play and wasn't too challenging
DO NOT PLAY, Worst course in the area
I've played Lanier many times over the past few years and it has never been a great course but a solid 20 buck course to play when bored or not looking to spend money. This is the worst I have seen it, and by far the worst in the area. The greens are not puttable, your better off putting in your front yard. Fairways are kept cut but are burnt out.
The course is a joke when it comes to dress code, I have never seen so many t shirts and jeans on a golf course, and it gives a terrible atmosphere, it just feels like you're at the old driving range. Lastly the rates are completely overpriced, to have this course priced at 36 bucks on a sunday afternoon is ridiculous. DO NOT pay more than 15 bucks to play this course, and the rates don't go that low so just don't play it. TERRIBLE. Embarrassing
Greens
Some greens are still rough. But I over all good shape about another month they should be rolling smooth
Great layout
Played as a two some and was stuck behind a very slow 4 some that refused to let us play thru. Several greens a little sandy but other than slow play we had a great time
Lanier Golf Club
For the price the course and grounds were not kept up. Fun layout but the greens were in awful shape. Need to lower the price for the current condition.
Overall quality course
Course was clean and well groomed however some of the greens had sand patches on them. Overall though for the money the course was a great value to me
OK Layout...greens were spotty at best
It was a mixed bag overall. Got there early with a twosome and was able to get off 20 minutes early and play in a little over 3 hours. The course layout is pretty neat...lots of doglegs, greens from small to large, long par 3's and some shorter par 4's. It was unseasonably windy for a morning in July, making the course much more difficult. About 5-6 of the greens were pretty much totally gone, the rest were OK.
Hope it never goes away. Greens getting close to perfect
My favorite track. I'm a 2hcp. Love love love playing this layout. Now that it's public a lot of high hcp and slower play. Not where you take a client as the facilities are very simple and dated. Spotless tho.
Rude Staff
Was told to go off back nine and joined two other golfers, and pace of play was slow. When i got to the front nine i was told the front nine was closed for repairs, and the large group was just finishing hole number nine and getting ready to make the turn. I asked for a nine hole raincheck and was told they don't give rain checks unless it rains. This course has no concept of customer service, and they just got my last dime.
Good Course
This is a good course to play. Narrow fairways, plentiful sand traps and subtle breaks in the greens makes for a challenging day on the links. The only drawback was the shape of the greens. Several greens were very thin in places.
You will not find better value.
Course is excellent for price paid. Some greens were distressed in certain areas. Course is challenging for all levels. Staff is great.
Value Golf
For a Public course and cost of less then $30, this is a good course to work on your game. Some of the green are suffering in spots, but I didn't pay to play Augusta anyway.
