Monroe Golf & Country Club
About
Monroe Golf & Country Club sprawls across gently rolling hills blanketed with mature hardwood forests. Opened in 1957, the course has a classic design that is playable for all skill levels but will still provide a challenge. The golf course is mostly flat but there are some subtly tricky elevation changes that can be found throughout. Pristine white sand bunkers contrast beautifully with the green of the course. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and towering trees line the fairways. The greens are fast and the rough can be punishing. It's a layout that demands accuracy but it's not overly difficult for the high handicapper. In addition to the golf course, Monroe also offers a large practice putting green and a driving range with a bunker.

Great course
First time to play MCC and was pleasantly surprised as to the course layout and the conditions of the fairways and greens. Lots of open fairway and plenty of length for the big hitters but not to much length from the whites or golds for the older set. Hazards are primarily sand traps and pine tree lined fairways, not the marsh and creeks crisscrossing every fairway as many local courses seem to be. Only problem was getting stuck behind a fivesome of good players but really crawled to a halt once they made the green. We played as a twosome so can't complain a lot about that. Would have been nice to be waved through.
Good course
I like this course, but some of the greens had been
aerated - would have been nice to know a head of
play - still would have played - it is just nice to be
informed. Hope to play here again fairly soon...
Hidden gem
Great little course, nice old-school lay out. Definitely will I add this course to my rotation
This course has a great layout!
The course has a great layout, with elevation changes and some water hazards. Not long, but will keep your attention throughout. The greens, however, were a mixed bag, with more than a few showing inadequate divot repair as well as 'other' issues. But it doesn't outweigh the overall golf experience. I would play it again.
Challenging & Fare
Excellent track. Allows shot making. Greens are receptive; good reads are critical. Fairways are good/rough is not !!!!, but isn't over the top. Layout good design.
An enjoyable play
Straight Ball Striking
The course requires that you be able to hit the relatively straight. Although if you slice or pull the pull slightly you can recover nicely due to the spacing between the tress on the course. This course is in really good condition. The fairways are full with very minimal bare spots. The greens have divots marks where the players have neglected to repair but, overall the greens are good and the speed is average. The only complaint I have is that I played as a single and approached several groups of 6 or even 7 golfers in a one group. Most allowed me to play through except for one group that was acting like A..Holes. A course Marshall would have been nice but no such luck. Overall experience was good. I suggest playing this course.
Diamond in the rough
This is a great public course for a good price. I'm a golf snob at times and get concerned when a course is too cheap but this was a great surprise. Well maintained course and decent greens. Hard to complain when you pay $35 but here are the neg. greens roll good but people don't repair ball marks and pace of play could of been better if monitored better. Overall fabulous course and I will be back soon.
Will not play here again anytime soon.
First, I would like to say my buddies and I play Monroe at least 2 to 3 times a year. We have never had any issues. Today, however, we were yelled and hollered at as if we were kids by a couple of members who were at the driving range near the 9th green. They had an issue with us because they felt our carts were past the marker and too close to the greens. Rather than walk over and speak to us like grown adults they were disrespectful and had no reason to be. I will be the first to own up to doing something wrong, but in this case we were right in line with the marker. Either way, if the members had a problem with us, they simply could have walked over and spoke with us and we would have had no issue discussing the matter like grown adults. I have no desire to play at a course where members feel entitled to be disrespectful. While there are some more underlying circumstances, I'm going to refrain from being ungentlemen like.
Golf with the Wife
Nice course with very little trouble to get into. Great value for the Golf Now fee. We had a great time and played in 3 hours.
Great time and value each time
One of the best public courses I have played ever!!!
My Favorite place
The guys that run this place are awesome!!!! They take time to speak with everyone and the course is in near perfect condition. I am usually shocked when I ask my friends that play and they say that they have never been to Monroe. It is in a class by itself! If I had more time to play; I would be a Member here! They are in a class by themselves!
Love It, you gotta Tray it
I really love this Golf Course. I highly recommend it to anyone, young or old or anywhere in between. It's not a difficult course at all. Play was very enjoyable and relaxing.
Great price, conditions, and worth the drive
Drove in from Atlanta to play this course and I must say it is worth the drive. There isn't a bad lie on the course, and it plays decently open. Pace of play was excellent, and unparalleled in comparison to courses closer to Atlanta. If you are looking for a very well manicured golf course anywhere near Atlanta, take the 45 minute drive and you will be happy you did.
Nice course
First time at the course and it was in very good shape. One green has a small area that was rough but it was a large green and the hole was not near it. other than that every tee box, fairway and green was in great shape. We played from the blue tees which lets you hit your driver often. Finished in just over 3 hours with no pressure from other groups.
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package
Am a member and volunteer my time to help keep the course in the best condition. Cart rules are posted in the carts. 90* cart rule is in effect at all times. We have added stakes and ropes to keep golfers like this guy...away from the greens...and in particular, at near most par 4 and par 5 greens due to GolfNow golfers continually driving carts in areas as indicated by this guy. MGCC is a member's owned course. Play where you like. We are working hard to create as pristine a course as possible.
