Monroe Golf & Country Club
About
Monroe Golf & Country Club sprawls across gently rolling hills blanketed with mature hardwood forests. Opened in 1957, the course has a classic design that is playable for all skill levels but will still provide a challenge. The golf course is mostly flat but there are some subtly tricky elevation changes that can be found throughout. Pristine white sand bunkers contrast beautifully with the green of the course. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and towering trees line the fairways. The greens are fast and the rough can be punishing. It's a layout that demands accuracy but it's not overly difficult for the high handicapper. In addition to the golf course, Monroe also offers a large practice putting green and a driving range with a bunker.

Course is very forgiving.
Maximum use of land with a lot of fairways running parallel to each other. So, the penalty for missing a fairway off the tee is minima,l unless you're on one of the outside perimeter holes. Greens are bentgrass and were pretty scarred from golfers not repairing their ball marks! A few greens have bare spots around the edges, but that's to be expected with the heat we've had recently. Overall, it was an enjoyable round.
Great layout, group size horrible
Course conditions were ideal. Fairways were great and the greens were fast but in great condition. Staff was friendly and very helpful. My only issue is with the size of the groups they allow to play. On the back nine I was forced to play through or wait on a group of 7, group of 6 and a group of 5. There was no ranger to break these groups up and it really impacted the pace of play.
Love the course
Friendly, courteous, and professional staff. A hidden gem of a course. Ample sand for filling divots on cart, as well as coolers for water and ice provided for the 90+ afternoon rounds.
Nice course for the price.
Enjoyable round of golf on a nicely maintained course.
Nice but POOR Service
Course was fun. not over challenging but kept it interesting. The staff was EXTREMELY rude and annoyed I was there. It was my first time there and was given ZERO direction on how to get to first tee, pick up a cart, etc. Stood in the highly disorganized and messy golf shop for five minutes before anyone came to collect my money.
Great value!!!
This is one of our favorite courses to play around the Athens area. The course is always well-maintained and the staff is very friendly and flexible and tries very hard to meet your needs. The snack bar has fresh sandwiches and really tasty french fries. If I lived closer to this course then I would definitely even join this as my country club .
Awesome course can be a test
The staff was outstanding friendly helpful.
The course made you think on the t-box not a long course so the driver was not needed all day long.
Greens were in great condition and fair rolled quickly.
The bunkers needed a little more sand but stay out of them and that does not happen.
Watch out on #4 180 yard t-shot avoids all trouble and a pretty easy par from there.
I drove 70 minutes to play here and will put this on my to play again list, the drive was certainly worth it.

Booked a 7:21 am time and blew through the course in 3 hours 45 minutes. The course was in excellent shape, particularly the greens. This is an older style course with many straight fairways, yet there was still plenty of challenge to make the round fun. Will be back...
old school Layout
This course forces you to play shot. I really enjoyed that aspect of it. Doglegs, elevation changes small undulated greens bunkers were good. Great track
The course was well maintained
Really like the layout of the course. And the cut of the greens. Just. Enough hazards to make it challenging for the
Average golfer....
Great alternative
Our foursome are members at Summit Chase and we wanted to change up for a day. Have done it before and will do it again. Greens are tougher than most with plenty of breaks. Not very subtle and fairly quick.
great course
enjoyed myself and will return. did not see any wild life
Golf Diva
The course is wonderful. I always enjoy this course year round!
Tough but fair greens, enjoyable round of golf
The greens will hold a shot , you need to be on the correct tier when putting. Down hill puts will pick up speed, good pace on the greens and they put true. There are some tight tee shots but overall you can get a way with a bad tee shot if you wonder a bit. The par three's are challenging but fair. Overall this was a great golf course for the money $36 through GolfNow.com
Confidence Builder Course
I played this course for the first time yesterday. I really enjoyed it! Fairways and Greens was in GREAT condition. One of the best courses I've Played. I was able to play this course all 18 holes for just $18 thanks to GolfNow. Worth every penny. Course was Fairly straight forward with a few dog legs in there. Greens was about average for speed. I would definitely recommend this course to all my Friends and I will most definitely be back to play here numerous times!
Cons:
I rated low on the Staff friendliness because of the gentlemen behind the desk as you walk in the door. First time there we walked in and looked around for a minute in the store. He tried to hurry us in saying "What you guys want? I got to go ride the course!" Everyone else there was very friendly. It was just him, not something you expect to hear. But other then that, it as a GREAT experience.
Very good old school course
First time playing this course. Long drive from home but well worth the drive. Excellent old school designed course in excellent condition. Course lends to very good scoring for a low handicapper and a fair test to a high handicapper. Will be back
Beautiful course well maintained
Course plays true to yardage markers. Easy to manage your round and score well as a good shot sets you up with a good lie. Not much water and most bunkers are reserved for protecting the greens. Most fairways are wide so you can attack them with your driver but the course is short enough that you can hit 3 wood and short iron to reach the greens. Greens were in excellent condition so putting was true and enhanced the experience. First time playing here but I will be back!
Greens
course was excellent greens were fast, I will play it again very shortly.
Excellent day
Always enjoy my day of golf here. The staff if great and the course is fun.
Pro Shop Closed
My brother and I reserved a tee time at 7:12 am on Saturday, March 21, 2015. We arrived at the course at 6:40 am and walked to the pro shop to pay for our round. The pro shop was locked. No one inside. After waiting for an hour, several of us went ahead and grabbed a cart and started our round. After playing 18 holes we walked back into the pro shop expecting an apology or explanation which we didn't receive. It took an additional 20 minutes to pay for our round because whoever was running the cash register admitted he didn't know what he was doing. We enjoyed the course but I'm not sure I will ever go back because of the apparent lack of concern and professionalism.
