Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

This course has really gone downhill
I moved to the area over 3 years ago.....when I first got here I found Lakemont and fell in love with it. The layout was great and the conditions were solid. I have played it many times but haven't played it in the last 6-7 months and I figured it was time to give it another shot. WOW, have things gone downhill. The condition of the course is worse than a bad muni track. Greens are terrible, areas around the greens are left uncut. We were one of the first tee times off that day and we saw ONE guy mowing and that wasn't until later in our round.
The last time I played the course I was able to play with a few members and they said that everything has been nickel and dimed since Marriott got their hands on the place. I am a member at Cherokee Run, recently played The Chimneys and Reunion and have seen the shape those courses are in......there is NO WAY Lakemont should look the way it does. We are deep enough into the spring that things should be absolutely solid. Extremely frustrated with this experience and the fact that I spent money to play the course but also embarrassed that I brought a good friend of mine to play the course only to see it is nothing like it has been in the past.
Won’t play again
Better courses for same value every where else. Greens were not good. Needs attention everywhere. Too bad, it used to be good.
Great layout with majestic views of Stone Mountain.
Not much grass
Not sure if I had a good lie all day, even in the fairways. Played here 1 year ago and I remember the course being in much better shape. Some greens were punched a couple weeks ago and some were green and slow, no consistency. Love the layout and setup but not much grass anywhere.
Disappointing. Gone downhill tremendously since 2 yrs ago. Condition poor. Greens not good. Tourists taking pictures instead of golfing and keeping up.
Not worth the money
Course is in terrible shape. Greens are horrible. Tee boxes are not maintained. They either have grass so tall you can’t tee off or they are totally uneven. Bunkers are hard as a rock and the fairways have dead spots everywhere. I can’t believe they charge so much to play out there. Total waste of money. I’ll never go back
Extremely windy day made some holes very difficult
scenic at times, challenging but fun course to play
Value?
Good course. Excellent pace of play. About half of the greens were recently aerated. Not sure it’s worth the price.
Inconsistent Greens
About half the greens were sanded in various stages making it incredibly difficult to gauge green speeds. I 3-putted 10 greens and my putting stroke average is under 2.
Very fun and rewarding
Wide open fairways on many holes. Well placed shots on the fairway= plenty of eagle and birdies. Pace of play was great. Never felt rushed! Great scenic view! Will be back
Greens have been sanded.
Love this course and everything about it! The only issue I had was that the greens had been sanded and were hard to play. Other than a few of the greens all of them were sanded. Should be great conditions soon but beware of the sand for now. All in all though I love this course so much!
A Good Day To Get Out And Hit Em
Had a chance to play Lakemont on Saturday. Overall, the day was pretty good. I did not hit em as well as I would have liked, but, I did beat up on my good friend. The course had a good bit of residual wet spots. I struggle to hit out of muddy and/or wet fairways, and that was quite evident today. The bunkers, which I found with great regularity, has some of the best sand I have ever had the pleasure of hitting out of. Again, overall a good day and a nice course to play when found in the below 60 dollar price point. Also, there was a very nice "cart lady" named Alice. She is truly a plus for this course. She is very friendly and although she is slight in stature, she does a great job of squaring away golf gear, before and after a round; hats off to you Alice, and hats off to SMGC for having her in your services.
