Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

St Mtn
I prefer Stonemont. They are both great courses during the week. Too many golfers on the weekends
Great Views
The course offers several great views of Stone Mountain. The course is fun but challenging with major changes in elevations, some blind shots and a lot of hills. The greens were in good shape and the rough was manageable. The beautiful tall trees prevent any wind so if you go in the summer get ready to sweat. You also have to pay a park entrance fee of $15.00 which is not included in the golf game. Very friendly and helpful staff .
Always love playing Stonemont
As always, loved the round on Stonemont at Stone Mountain. All but a few greens were perfect. Fairways were excellent. Always a great course to play!
Poor Conditioning and a Poor Value
I typically play Stone Mountain - Lakemont a few times each year, but this was only my second round in the past two years. Lakemont essentially lost the greens making play less than enjoyable. The bent grass has mostly recovered, but the greens are still quite poor (slow, bumpy and inconsistent). The bunkers are also not being properly maintained and the rough is covered in grass clippings. Better maintenance would not make Lakemont a good value. The $15 park entry fee is no longer offset by the golf course and is essentially a $15 surcharge for playing this poorly maintained course. I rarely give a 1-star review without slow play being involved, but the surcharge is in my opinion simply over the top. There are much better golf options in the Atlanta metro than Stone Mountain.
This is a Gem!!
This is with out a doubt the best course my son and I have found on Golf Now
Greens Were Horribke
1/2 of the greens were really unplayable if you were actually trying to keep score. You should place an ASTERISK so that anyone playing will be warned. Truly mad the round a waste of my money!!!!!!!
Beware of Stone Mountain Lakemont Course
I played Lakemont this morning on a Hot Deal on Golf Now so it was only $15. While I can't complain too much for playing 18 at this price, I am writing this review to those of you who might pay $40 to $60 for a round here as its normally listed on the weekend on Golf Now. DONT DO IT. 6/9 greens on the front are virtually unplayable. I don't know a thing about turf management or horticulture, but these greens have and infestation or disease that has caused them to all but die completely. They are hard and cracked all over the place with bare sand spots and bumps everywhere (not aeration). Not only are they impossible to putt on, approach shots would only stay if the rolled up onto the green. Its truly a shame and I would hope they would shut down the front nine of this course seeing as they have 18 more holes on the Atonement course and get this issue fixed asap. It is a beautiful course and setting and its a shame its in such horrible shape. I have always felt the upkeep of this course is below average as they have numerous areas of rocks and sand that are clearly in playable in bounds areas, but the condition of these greens takes it to a whole new level. So think twice before booking a round here this summer. And remember, its $15 extra to park in the Stone Mountain park on top of what you pay for your round....
Extremely need green management
Although it rain yesterday, green is so bad and dirty.
Course is in bad shape
I was very disappointed in Stonemont. I played this course 10 years ago and it was pristine, now it is bad. The greens are bumpy and patched, and tee boxes are terrible. It is not worth what they are charging foot this course. I even had a hot deal and it should have been lower.
I won't be back.
Bad greens
Traveled from out of state to attend the Masters, played the course the week of the Masters and the price was doubled. It should have been 1/2 price. The greeens were horrible!! Bumpy, hairy , some greens were washed out and in disrepair. The views were awesome and the staff was great. They stated they were going to replace greens on Lakemont course. Call before and ask about condition
Worst greens I've ever played on
Don't waste your time or cash on the Lakemont course. Thankfully our round was included with hotel stay.....having to pay to play on these greens would've been a crime. Absolute worst shape of greens I've ever played. Most greens bumping and like putter plinko to get to the cup. Another par 3 green had areas that were completely washed out leaving sand traps on the green. I have no idea what the Stonemont course shape was like so maybe that one is better??? I'd call and ask about those greens if planning on playing that course. Layout good and could be a really good setup but clearly they don't give a rip about the greens. Very underwhelmed!
Never Worth It!
Stone Mountain has two courses managed by Marriott. For MANY years they have needed new greens but refuse to initiate that because they LEASE the golf courses and refuse to invest any money in the greens and the owners refuse as well. As a result the greens on more than half the holes are atrocious. It has been this way for YEARS and YEARS! So don't expect much from two courses that could be diamonds but clearly are disappointments.
Aerated Greens
A little early in the year to be playing this course as the greens were lately aerated and the grass everywhere has not greened up hardly at all. Very disappointed in greens, impossible to putt on and hole. Month or two from now I am sure it will be green with nice smooth greens, just not now.
Bumpy Ride
Played the Lakemont course since they had an aerification alert on the Stonemont course. Overall condition was fine for this time of year. However, most of the greens were pretty bumpy and you couldn't get a good roll on putts. A lot of bare spots on the greens and clumps of weed type grasses. Played here before so it was surprise that the greens were in this shape. The pace of play was excellent. Never had to wait on anyone in front of us and there was no one immediately behind us. Nice clubhouse and plenty to choose from if you need shoes, shirts, hats, etc. Will definitely play here again.
First and last time playing this course!
This course had so much potential but never realized it. Yes, I realize it is mid-February 2017 and it's been slightly wet these days. But like the previous review said, this course was in miserable condition.
The course looks great as the front 9 is placed alongside the lake, hence the name of the course. The back 9 is a few minute cart drive away and set in between the front 9 of the Stone course (the other 18-hole course at Stone Mountain). I've added a few photos from the round.
My issues with the course is based on the conditions of the tee boxes, greens, and pace of play.
First, there was not a single tee box that felt stable with different patches everywhere.
Worse though, was the conditions of the greens. Starting with Hole 1 and throughout the other 17 holes, there is patches of grass that will not allow your putt to roll straight or pure. It is very bumpy and not possible to trust your line. Even simple 3-foot tap ins can roll off line due to random pieces of grass protruding from the ground.
Even worse than the quality of the greens is the pace of play. We had a 1:30PM tee time and when we rolled up to the first tee, the 1:10PM threesome was teeing off at 1:25PM. We had to wait for the 1:20PM twosome to tee off and eventually we teed off at 1:50PM. There was no starter and because it's a water carry hole on the opening drive, it took the golfers 2 balls to get over. Mind you, they were playing from the Blue tees even though they should not have.
Hole 1 was not the only issue though. We waited at each hole for a minimum of 10 minutes before being able to tee off. In fact, the pace of play was so slow that I called the pro shop while waiting on the 6th hole to ask them to send a ranger or somebody to help the groups keep pace. They said they'll help but I never saw anyone show up to do anything about it.
It took us nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes to finish 7 holes!! It would have been better if the slower groups just let us play through - they didn't. So we drove through the 3 groups in front of us after Hole 7 and restarted on Hole 11. It took us an hour and 45 minutes to finish the back 9.
Clearly the pro shop didn't care about pace of play as there was no one trying to keep things going. What a shame as the course layout is very nice although the drive between hole 9 and 10 is very long.
One last note - Hole 13 Par 3. There are patches of sand everywhere on the green! Good luck trying to get the pace right on any putt given the chunky grass patches but to have lines of sand (not from the bunkers) makes it impossible to enjoy.
For the money you pay for this course and the $15 parking fee to enter Stone Mountain ($40 for annual), I'd drive 10-20 minutes more to play at better courses anywhere else with similar challenging layouts. Save your money and especially time!
