Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

Stonemont
The greens are in terrible shape and are obviously being neglected. There was no cart service despite being told we would have it in the club house. The halfway houses were closed on a Saturday. The staff watched my girlfriend get her clubs off the cart and load them in to the truck and did not lift a finger to help. I am disappointed I had to pay $40 (on top of $15 stone mountain entrance fee) to play a course that is in such poor shape. Very poor experience overall.
Pace of Play was too slow.
It took 5 hours for a round. Martial should force slow players to keep up the pace. Two foursome groups head of my group spent more time under trees to find balls then actual playing golf.
For a Hot Deal, I'd play here
I've been to Lakemont when it was at its prime, but I would not pay full price for this course right now. $10 as a Hot Deal is fair price for the course condition. It has its nice scenery but some holes are painted green, bad patches on the green or nasty tee boxes. Other than the course condition its a fun course with challenging holes. Keep it as a Hot Deal and pay no more than $10. They use to give you free range balls for paying the $15 entrance fee to the park, but they stopped doing that for some reason. So you still end up paying $25 to play. They need the customer base.
pretty course
It's a nice course. Pace of play was good until the last 3 holes. Course always seems to be under repair somewhere along the way. Staff is friendly and helpful.
NIce conditions
Gerens rolled beautifully although a little slow because it was extremely hot day and the normally don't cut them as much during a heat wave. Course was as beautiful as ever with a few spots under repair that did not affect the round in any real way.
Beautiful rolling hills...challenging
Kiva Dunes in Gulf Shores, AL is my home course so this was a pleasant surprise to get to play such a beautiful contour course with breathtaking scenery! We found it on GolfNow for an amazing price!
Challenging course in the mountains
Arrive early if you want want to practice as the range is a distance from the first Tee. We played the Lakemont course. Challenging carries, fairways and tee boxes needed some attention given the round price point. We had a 5 hour round! Slow.
Setting of the course picturesque with Stone Mountain as a backdrop. Did not use restaurant so can't comment.
Not worth it
It's in stone mountain park so you have to pay $15 to park. Conditions were good. Pace was slow, layout was not good. Would not recommend and will not return.
Fun Course with great views
Real fun course. Needs some work but the staff was out there working hard on it all day. Could be really nice in the future.
Great staff and golf course
Course was in the best shape I've seen in years. Staff and facilities were awesome as usual. Josh in the pro shop was great.
Fun layout with beautiful views but ridiculously SLOW!!!
The course layout was very fun and fair. The course has many beautiful views of lakes, ponds and Stone Mountain. However, the greens on holes 1, 2, 3 and 4 were horrible with terrible grass where there was grass. The first 4 greens did not roll true at all. However, the rest of the greens were very nice and lush. The WORST part of the round was how slow it was. The front nine was great but as soon as we made the turn the pace slowed to a ridiculous slow pace. There was a group of 6, yes SIX golfers two groups ahead of us. Behind us there were also three groups that we could see, that were also waiting on the SIXsome. We called the pro shop to complain. About 15 mins later we saw the Marshall out driving around but he did not make the SIXsome break up. The entire round of golf took 5:30 hours. It was stupid ridiculous. Will NOT go back to that course with TERRIBLE Marshalls!!! If you want a regular paced round do NOT play this course!!!
Greens are a disgrace
Invited some out of town guests to join us at Lakemont for the pretty views of the lakes and Stone Mountain. Have played this course many times and what a shock when we arrived at the first green to see that it had been 90% overtaken by weed grass. It was UN-puttable. The ball bounces and hops all over the place and rolls at about a 6. The rest of the front nine was the same. Very frustrating and I was embarrassed to have invited anyone to come here to play. The back 9 was a little better, but still pretty bad. In my opinion, Marriott management has completely lost these greens and needs to close this course and re-do them. What a shame. Come for the view, have lunch at the lakeside cafe, but play somewhere else until they get this fixed. That said, staff were, as always, exceptionally nice and very apologetic about the course conditions.
Improved Lakemont
The course is much improved over last year. Most of the greens were perfect and the couple that weren't will be soon. The major tree trimming to improve the sun and air flow to the greens has made a big difference. The fairways were on par with the other courses in the area for this time of year and the wet conditions. Overall a much improved course over this time a year ago.
Poor course condition, fairways like ploughed fields in places
Think this course is the poor cousin to its neighbour. Feels like everything has been shoehorned in, miles between the 9 the green and 10th tee. First few holes very scenic, otherwise nothing special. Driving range closed so nowhere to warm up. Clubhouse nice, friendly staff. Would definitely not recommend this course, the $15 entry to the park was an unexpected expense before we even got to the club!n
God Awful Greens
I know it's early spring/late winter so the grass is just beginning to green up, however, the greens were unplayable. At one point, the lady I was playing with hit a putt and the ball hopped up a foot in the air because of the greens conditions. Course was cart path only even though it hadn't had significant rain in over a week. Bunkers were washed out all over the place, fairways hadn't been cut in days. I don't know what's going on at Stone Mountain but it used to be the place to play. Now it is in shambles. Such a shame.
excellent course condition.
everything was so good. shape, condition, staffs, but the only thing that I didn't like was my partner. we had 2 and met 2 guys at the course.
they were too slow, no manner...
they didn't seems like beginners but they....
other than that, everything was sssssooooo great!!!
Very disappointing
I must preface my review by saying I actually called the pro shop before booking and inquired as to the condition of the course. They told me it was in good shape. In hopes that this was true, 5 players and I went to the course. What we found was tremendously disappointing. The fairways were wet and bare. Drainage was non-existent. The greens were in horrible condition and some appeared to be diseases. The tee boxes were pretty beaten up as well. This course was once a great course and it has the potential to be again, but clearly, no one wants to put the time, effort or money into making it even average. Very sad.
Travesty
This once well renowned course has become a muddy, unplayable quagmire. Its one thing to have terrible greens. But then, there is another thing to have unplayable fairways at the same time. You cannot have both going at once for 38.00. Temporary green on #14. Fairways are like walking in soup with balls plugging on every shot. I have never seen this course like this. I fear they will never get the course back. 70% of the greens are sick and choppy. Just a horrible situation
They need to pour a lot of money into this course
Good layout, beautiful views. Terrible shape. They obviously lack the money to make needed improvements for the greens, for drainage, bunkers, etc. It's a real shame because this course has great potential. Really bad shape. Also, when comparing price, don't forget the $15 daily parking fee unless you have a Stone Mountain pass. I wasted my Saturday afternoon and my money.
Great outing with the neighbors
Thought it was a great round with the exception of holes 12, 13 and 14. Re-seeding the greens of 13 and 14, meant fairway greens with oversized holes. Completely understand the need to repair the greens, but didn't know until after booking. Overall, will definitely play again... After the greens are repaired.
