Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

Terrible Greens

I should have asked for my money back. The greens were in terrible shape. Marriot should be shame of themselves for the condition of this course. The greens for most part was painted dirt. On a couple of the holes there were holes where the pin position had been moved. A total disgrace!!!!

Golfing the Rock

Overall was good course. The greens were in awful condition, but the rest of the course made up for it. Great layout. We played from the blues. It was nice because it forces you to use some clubs you may not always pull out. I'll go back, but I would only play for discount rates. They need to lower the rates, or fix the greens. The additional $15 to get into the park already increases what you pay.

Poor rating because of poor greens condition

Have played the Lakemont course a number of times in prior years and have in general enjoyed the layout and conditions. However, the present condition of all of the greens is near horrible - patchy, weedy, uneven and in many cases no grass appears to growing in certain areas of the greens. Most of the rest of the course is in good condition although the tee boxes could use a little care as well. Have come to expect better from SM-Lakemont based on past play though very disappointed with this round and value for course condition.

Should be better

We were disappointed that the greens were in such bad shape, I would not pay full price for this course right now. $10 as a Hot Deal is fair price for the course condition. It has very nice scenery but bad patches on the greens. The fairways were in good condition. Keep it as a Hot Deal and pay no more than $10. When you go to Stone Mountain you expect better.

Layout & course conditions

The front nine layout was really neat with the geographic layout. Back nine was rather ordinary but we enjoy the golf. Tees were awful - nee tending. Green were very poor - many need to be closed down and regrassed or rebuilt. What a shame. Very poor compared to the Stone Mountain course which was in great condition. Course layout here was superior to SM. One hold was close for repair when most need to be repaired. We still enjoyed our golf here.

STONE MOUNTAIN

The course is beautiful

The scenery breathe taking

The opening hole sets the tone for a great round of challenges a must play for all level golfers

The one downside is the $15 parking fee to enter the state park consolation $40 annual parking pass which can easily pay for it self

Good course

Course was fun. If this is your first time, you might get turned around a bit changing over to the back nine. There are two courses that share the same general area. Follow the lines and you'll be ok. Got a great deal on GolfNow, and I play either course whenever I can. Last time I played, I had the course to myself so I was able to work primarily on my approach shots.

Stonemont

The greens are in terrible shape and are obviously being neglected. There was no cart service despite being told we would have it in the club house. The halfway houses were closed on a Saturday. The staff watched my girlfriend get her clubs off the cart and load them in to the truck and did not lift a finger to help. I am disappointed I had to pay $40 (on top of $15 stone mountain entrance fee) to play a course that is in such poor shape. Very poor experience overall.

Pace of Play was too slow.

It took 5 hours for a round. Martial should force slow players to keep up the pace. Two foursome groups head of my group spent more time under trees to find balls then actual playing golf.

For a Hot Deal, I'd play here

I've been to Lakemont when it was at its prime, but I would not pay full price for this course right now. $10 as a Hot Deal is fair price for the course condition. It has its nice scenery but some holes are painted green, bad patches on the green or nasty tee boxes. Other than the course condition its a fun course with challenging holes. Keep it as a Hot Deal and pay no more than $10. They use to give you free range balls for paying the $15 entrance fee to the park, but they stopped doing that for some reason. So you still end up paying $25 to play. They need the customer base.

NIce conditions

Gerens rolled beautifully although a little slow because it was extremely hot day and the normally don't cut them as much during a heat wave. Course was as beautiful as ever with a few spots under repair that did not affect the round in any real way.

Challenging course in the mountains

Arrive early if you want want to practice as the range is a distance from the first Tee. We played the Lakemont course. Challenging carries, fairways and tee boxes needed some attention given the round price point. We had a 5 hour round! Slow.

Setting of the course picturesque with Stone Mountain as a backdrop. Did not use restaurant so can't comment.

Fun layout with beautiful views but ridiculously SLOW!!!

The course layout was very fun and fair. The course has many beautiful views of lakes, ponds and Stone Mountain. However, the greens on holes 1, 2, 3 and 4 were horrible with terrible grass where there was grass. The first 4 greens did not roll true at all. However, the rest of the greens were very nice and lush. The WORST part of the round was how slow it was. The front nine was great but as soon as we made the turn the pace slowed to a ridiculous slow pace. There was a group of 6, yes SIX golfers two groups ahead of us. Behind us there were also three groups that we could see, that were also waiting on the SIXsome. We called the pro shop to complain. About 15 mins later we saw the Marshall out driving around but he did not make the SIXsome break up. The entire round of golf took 5:30 hours. It was stupid ridiculous. Will NOT go back to that course with TERRIBLE Marshalls!!! If you want a regular paced round do NOT play this course!!!

Greens are a disgrace

Invited some out of town guests to join us at Lakemont for the pretty views of the lakes and Stone Mountain. Have played this course many times and what a shock when we arrived at the first green to see that it had been 90% overtaken by weed grass. It was UN-puttable. The ball bounces and hops all over the place and rolls at about a 6. The rest of the front nine was the same. Very frustrating and I was embarrassed to have invited anyone to come here to play. The back 9 was a little better, but still pretty bad. In my opinion, Marriott management has completely lost these greens and needs to close this course and re-do them. What a shame. Come for the view, have lunch at the lakeside cafe, but play somewhere else until they get this fixed. That said, staff were, as always, exceptionally nice and very apologetic about the course conditions.
