Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

They need to pour a lot of money into this course
Good layout, beautiful views. Terrible shape. They obviously lack the money to make needed improvements for the greens, for drainage, bunkers, etc. It's a real shame because this course has great potential. Really bad shape. Also, when comparing price, don't forget the $15 daily parking fee unless you have a Stone Mountain pass. I wasted my Saturday afternoon and my money.
Great outing with the neighbors
Thought it was a great round with the exception of holes 12, 13 and 14. Re-seeding the greens of 13 and 14, meant fairway greens with oversized holes. Completely understand the need to repair the greens, but didn't know until after booking. Overall, will definitely play again... After the greens are repaired.
First Time & it was Excellent!!!
Spent many times at Stone Mountain, GA visiting my relatives and always wanted to play this course.
For $50 I chose to play the Lakemont course, one of the two at Stone Mt, the other called Stonemont. The course staffmember suggested this as being more scenic and secluded. AWESOME views of the mountain on many holes, the greens were superb, and the fairways were in great condition. Long cart rides between holes made it extra interesting as you didnt know what to expect.
Front 9 played with more trees, and the back 9 was more like a country club, holes meandering back and forth.
Biggest turn off for me was the almost 90 degrees, which is normal for July, and first couple holes were littered with geese droppings, fairways and greens.
Would really like to check out Stonemont the next time I visit.
Awesome Course Graceful Environment
This is a wonderful course to play a great game of golf. It has a mountain view and a lake view. It's green and fareway is beautiful. It challenges a player to employ strategy. I will always bring friends to play golf there.
Not worth the money
Conditions of this course have gone down hill for the past several years while prices have increased. Used to play once a week 20 years ago...now once a year if they have a special. Greens are really bad, fairways in rough shape, tee boxes could use some work. Two temporary greens didn't help (try putting on a dirt fairway with clumps of grass). There are several courses in the area that are in much better shape for much less money. Sad....used to be a premier course but not anymore. We had the course mostly to ourselves on a beautiful (which should tell you something...nobody plays here anymore). Wouldn't expect to pay more than $20/round for a course in this condition.
Super slow play / terrible course design
Painfully slow play. Course design is terrible. Every shot is a blind shot so if you've never played the course you will not enjoy the round. There is a difference between being a challenging course and just being a terribly designed course. Skill almost does not matter because you have no idea where you need to hit your shot. It's a shame because the surrounding views of Stone Mountain are beautiful. The course also doesn't make you aware that you have to pay an additional $15 to just get into the park (aside from your greens fees). Do not recommend.
Nice course! But..
We played this course for second time. I would prefer to be informed upfront of three greens under repair. Nothing was mentioned making the booking, neither at checkin!
The course itself is really nice, and we had fun; its diverse where you use all your clubs. Greens are challenging although condition of some is poor.
Lost few balls on middle of fairway as it was too wet and too much leaves...!
Bad shape and not worth the cost
They should not be collecting $47 for a course in such bad shape...greens were bad and 3 holes on back nine were temps.
They offered no refund when we complained and I am not certain I would ever play there again.
Too many holes under repair
Sure do HATE playing a course when many holes are under repair and the management or this website does not let you know. I would not have booked this course if I had known that 3+ holes you couldn't even use the green. Not the 1st time playing here. Love the course when it is "up to par". Not this time though...disappointed.
very poor conditions
We've played on over 30 golf courses throughout the US while traveling in our motorhome and this is one of the worst courses/conditions that we're played in.
The temporary greens were a joke and 1 hole didn't even have one and very confused about the other one.
The last one had a temp green that was so sloped that no shot held any part of that piece of turf.
The entrance fee is a rip-off and the way to support the other activities in the park. We were staying in the CG and thought that the entrance fee was included in the package - we were never told it wasn't.
We carried out bags from the parking lot since it was fairly close and older attendant tried to grab my bag off of my shoulder - I told him that I can handle the bag, he then said whatever - instead of just asking me if I needed help. If I needed help, I would have gladly gave him the bag and a tip but the way he treated me, I wanted him to just back off.
Since we had a package, we were entitled to range balls but the range was closed due to overuse by a previous large group so the pro shop guy offered me some sport drinks (which we don't drink), 2 caps and a ball mark/divot tool. I asked him if I could trade all of it for some new balls - NO was the answer and then he gave me 2 tokens for a hot dog lunch/drink that we gave to 2 young guys in front of us. ( we brought some lunch with us).
To conclude this long winded review - we will never go back to this course - there are plenty of better courses in the Atlanta area that are always in great shape and reasonable green fees on GolfNow site.
Player beware - this course reminds me of a typical resort run course - I'll stick to ones that are semi-private or well run public ones.
young
Was great round.
Staffs were kind.
Great fairways.but some greens needed repair.
so disappoint
who ever booking desk associate did not explain
course no.13 & 14 did not have green at all we had to turn around to stonemont back 9 (but not maintain too)
so totally waste money& time
me and my partner will not come back here ever
Beautiful Views
Love playing Lakemont. I've played there about a dozen times and will always find an excuse to go back. I know they are redoing a few holes on the back 9 but the overall experience is a must. Can't wait to go back
Crappie maintenance and ugly.
You have to pay for park entrance fee on top of green fee. That's ridiculous.
Genes are all ragged up and slow and bumpy
I won't play here anymore ever again.
Not worth a dime to play here.
Greens patchy
Nice course. Greens looked like they had a disease. They were in the process of fixing them. Fairways were good. Got behind a group that was slow, which caused the whole round to be slow.
Play somewhere else!
The greens are TERRIBLE! The service was insincere, and programmed! I am very disappointed with this golf course. I would have a hard time booking a round here if it was free!
Maintenance was disappointing
The first hole had us thinking we were in for a great round of golf. The greens and fairways looked great. But as the round continued we fell victim to the first cut roughs not having been mowed. A couple of my buddies lost balls that were a foot off the fairway. Multiple greens were black and were like putting on glass, which is understandable to a degree because of this heat, but some of the other greens were in GREAT shape and were rolling very very slow. Impossible to keep consistency throughout the round. If the can trim up the rough and fix the greens, we'll definitely be back.
challenging layout, great views
Picturesque front 9 along lake and mountain! heavy elevation change on holes and thick rough. some greens in rough condition but good undulations
Greens are BAD
Beautiful layout and you cannot beat the scenic views on this course. However, the greens are in terrible shape (at least 13 out of 18 of them). Impossible to read breaks and judge speed when ur putting through mud. There are plenty of courses within 20 miles for MUCH cheaper that you are better off playing.
