Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

Horribe Course
This course is terrible, especially a course managed by Marriott. Tee boxes were nothing but sand and the greens were pretty much indescribably bad. One green had 2 bare sand circles in the middle. I've never played a green with a bunker in the middle of the green (satire). That I actually had to putt through.
In a word, the course is horrible! Bright side, the scenery was good.
Beautiful track
- Course was in fair shape.
- Greens have some issues with diseased patches, but ultimately in good shape for early in the season.
- Tee boxes need to be looked after more. ( leveling issues)
- Management needs to be more "transparent" with the $15 you need for access into Stone Mountain just to play the course.
- Need to express (for new players) that you don't round though the back nine for drinks, food, etc...
Nice Views, Fair condition
Took my Dad here from out of town. He enjoyed the views and the front 9. However the back 9 greens and overall course conditions were a little sub-par. Greens were beaten up a bit, and some fairways lacked turf, making good shots still run off into trouble because of hard pan and rocky turf.
Fun course average conditions
The course was fun to play however the tee boxes and greens were not in good shape. Would like to replay it if the improve. With that said considering the conditions not sure I would replay. The service in the bar was horrible. Tried to get a drink before the round and was basically ignored. They need to work on customer service
Aerifying
The greens had been recently aerified and the greens made it really difficult to enjoy our round.
Course was in TERRIBLE shape
The course website said that they greens had been aerated 10 days ago. Upon arrival, we found out they actually were aerated 3 days ago. The area had received some rain on Thursday and we played on Saturday. The course was a completed mud pit. Multiple fairways were unplayable due to the amount of moisture and mud.
Also, multiple tee boxes had no grass on them. Even though the greens were aerated and sanded, multiple spots on the greens had no grass.
I have played Stone Mountain many times in the past, but it will be a while before I go back due to the overall terrible shape the course was in. It wasn't worth the $40 i paid to play.
Don't waste your money
The first sign of a great day is when you pull up to play golf and you have to pay a $15.00 fee to park. This was not mentioned when we where purchasing our round for 7 people($105.00 extra). The course was in horrible condition and should not of even had golfers on the course. The best thing about the outing was the hotdog I had and the club house.
Not to mention after we paid for our round, the guy at the counter said "you guys picked a great course to play on today" and yes he was being very sarcastic.
Absolutely awful conditions
I've played this course multiple times in the past with satisfaction but unfortunately this course has been ignored and run into the ground. Absolutely awful playing conditions. The greens, fairways and tee boxes were in unplayable shape. It's unacceptable that its even open for playing. Very dissapointed. With so much incredible natural landscape around, it's ashame more needed attention isn't given to this golf course.
Great Potential
First off I would like to start by saying this staff may be the best I have ever encountered. They are super friendly and helpful. Mention that it is your first time playing here and you will receive a complementary yardage book. I played the lakemont course which is the less popular of the two but has better scenery. The course is challenging by way of the narrowest fairways you will ever play. The Par 3s are long, ranging from 155 - 218yards and there are 5 of them. As for the greens they were miserable. There is no such thing as putting straight. Very patchy, you better hit the ball close to the hole or you are never putting it in. Fairways need work but I will give them the benefit of the doubt as winter is just ending and we have seen much rain. Overall the experience was good but the course needs some serious maintenance considering its a Marriott course. If you can get on the course for a decent price go play, but remember you must pay to enter the park as well.
Beautiful course
After winter it's tough to have good greens, And aeration starts for them next week or so. Was bumpy on each green.
despite that, really fun. Beautiful course.
This time the bells didn't play all day so was much better. That can be really annoying.
Poor condition/over priced
The course was in bad shape and was cart path only for all 18 holes. Also the park charged 15.00 dollars to get into the course, this amount use to be refunded... However, it is not anymore, so expect to pay 15.00 dollars more for your rate. They do give you a bucket of range balls, in order to try and make up for the additional park fee, but I was the first tee time of the morning and had no time to get practice in. Let's no mention how far the range is from the course I played...
very bad green
you have to pay $15. to get in park and bad green.
Pace Of Play For Winter Golf Was Terrible
It was a raw day and unfortunately we were behind a group that was playing very slowly and not letting any groups play through. The Pro Shop immediately responded to our report which was awesome customer service!. The staff is very friendly, but BEWARE: The city of Stone Mountain sets up speed traps just before entering the Stone Mountain Park and the rates to enter the park have gone up from $10 to $15.
When I say speed TRAPS. They were popping people coming down a steep slope (which used to be 35mph now it's suddenly 25mph.
Lakemont Course Review
I always enjoy playing Lakemont. It has a great view of the water and the course is always in decent shape. The staff is always there ready to greet you with a smile.
Great views.
Love the course. The greens need work and they were just sanded..
beautiful course
Also I play this course in the winter, but it still beautiful.the front nine holes around the stone mountain is very good.
I will go and play this course the next time.
Not worth more than $30
Terrible greens, terrible fairways, terrible tee boxes. Definitely not worth the $41, not including $15 for parking. Greens were bumpy, covered in goose droppings and missing large patches of grass throughout the course. Fairways were also missing large patches of grass. Tee boxes were mostly bare of grass and sandy. Cary lady was extremely nice though...
Surprised it was so nice honestly
Good
Fun course, a lot of holes on water, good views, elevation change, challenging uneven lies, some tight holes, really friendly staff, beautiful bar/restaurant in clubhouse with fireplace, lots of wood, tvs and pooltable, lots of discounts for residents and walking, expect it will be beautiful in March to November time.
Bad
Long cart drive to separated 9 holes makes me question walkability
Range uses limited flight balls off matts and it's a long cart drive from the clubhouse
4 or 5 greens had some dead spots
Par 5s require awkward little 2nd shots to set up big 3rds because of ditches or water
Fee to enter park (reimbursed at club though)
Using rangefinder with slope I found that sprinkler heads and rocks give "plays like" yardages, so you shouldn't adjust any further for elevation
Overall
One of the better courses within 20-30 min drive of the city, if it turns out to be as nice as I'm imagining. I was really impressed with potential that I expect to see in the summer. I played today as a single in 3 hours. The staff treated me like a VIP and we're very friendly. Looking forward to going back when it's greener/warmer.
Greens.... No No
The layout of both Lakemont and Stonemont are one of the best in town. But I have not come to play for the last few years.
Few things. 1. Greens condition is horrible. This time it was the worst among the ladt few visits. Some holes fairways were even better than greens. 2. I always hate to psy for the parking, even it's not much($10). The Legacy at lake lanier waive parking fees for golfers. 3. Few mores...
I will not return to this course unless there is green fee special less than $10 or i see numbers of good reviews.
Beautiful and Challenging
Course condition was good but the greens were bare in many spots. Sad to see that such a great and challenging layout comes up "short" on the greens. Front nine was beautiful. Back nine a completely different feel. Both combined is awesome. Will return to play stonemont...I heard its a tougher test. One disappoint was the gate charge of $10. They should offset the green fees.
