Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

CHALLENGING BUT FAIR
The course required you to make some shots and put your ball in the right position on the green. It was in very good shape.
A great round!
I hadn't played here in a couple years but I'm glad I came back. The staff is among the friendliest anywhere, public or private. Several of the greens were not in good shape, but the staff pointed that out before we started. They also explained that Lakemount course had experimental 8-inch cups on the greens in addition to regulation cups. We were told upfront that if we didn't like them , they would switch us to the sister course. While some of the greens were in poor shape as described, the overall tract was gorgeous with great views of Stone Mountain. By the way I lost a club during play and mentioned it to the first ranger I saw. Ten minutes later another ranger brought the club to my cart and refused a tip.
What a great experience at a price that was almost unbelievable. A fantastic value.
Good course gone bad
I have played this course many times, it has been since last winter. We went and they said thy had just aerated the greens. For what I don't know they were all dead and In horrible shape. Thy also told me they had big cups set in the way it was explained I thought they had both. No we were all playing to a 10" cup this should have been told to is ahead of time we would have played the other side or another course. It was bad fairways were wet that's not their fault due to rain but the greens were ruined. I live this place and these courses I hope they get it back together soon I'm coming back in December !
bad greens
the greens were so bad they used BIG 14 INCH HOLES TO PUTT IN ON EVERY GREEN.
NOT A GOOD DAY,
Ston Mtn. Lakemont
Everyone from the lady at the gate to the bag guys check in staff to even the groundskeepers were friendly and polite. My complaint is the way the course is set up. The fairways are cut half as wide an they should be and the greens have the ten inch holes cut into them. This would be fine for kids but very disaapointjng to the regular golfer.
Plug the lrge cups!!
Greens were in terrible shape-Enlarged cups were not mentioned upon playing-no a true test of golf-cheezy
What Happened??
I have been playing this course for for 15 years and never have I seen it in such bad shape. Too bad, it;s a great track.
Wish I listened to the reviews...
I read some of the recent reviews for the Stone Mountain Lakemont course and thought that there was no way they could be true and probably were exaggerated. It turns out that they were spot on. The greens are in terrible shape. It's not just that they've recently been aerated, but that they have a large amount of dead spots and rough patches. We pretty much played tee to green and then picked up and didn't putt because it just wasn't any fun. The greens had 8 inch cups instead of the regular size, likely due to the conditions of the greens. The other negative aspect was the pace of play. We teed off at 940am and it took 4.5 hours to play 13 holes. We ended up leaving on the 14th hole and went home. The course is picturesque and the tees/ fairways are in ok shape, but I would recommend playing elsewhere.
Stone let down
Have played both SM courses and usually are in great shape. Not the case now, when you would think course would be in pristine condition. The greens are in real bad shape. The fairways were recently cut, and the grass was packed up down the fairway. Very disappointed that conditions of this resort course have gotten so bad. Will take them off of my play list moving forward, waste of money.
First time back in about 10 years.
Everything was in great shape. A few dead spots on the greens, but with this past winter, better shape than I expected. Would have been nice to get a hot dog after 9, but snack shop was closed.
Stone Mtn. Lakemont
Good part: Appreciated the friendly staff, enjoyed playing 18 with my buddies and the fairways were in great shape; the bad news: greens were in worst the shape (half grass, half missing grass) I've ever seen at Stone Mountain and the sand bunkers have not been repaired from last week's rains. We were told there would be no beverage cart for the day and we didn't use the restaurant. And future note: Driving range is closed on Tuesday mornings for maintenance; re-opens at 10:30. Who ever had the idea for painting the red/blue strips on the cart paths that lead to the appropriate course should be allowed 'employee of the month' parking privileges.
Rough Course Conditions - Lakemont
I like the Stone Mountain golf courses and have played them before. However, the Lakemont course is in terrible shape now. The greens are awful and not worth the $40 to $50 that I paid. This season I've played between 15 and 20 courses in the Atlanta / Fl area and you can do much better.
Great course for its challenging par 3's and cost to play.
Some of the greens are showing signs of distress due to the weather and are a little rough to putt on, but the fairways were in good shape.
Scenic views
Course had some great views of the lake and the mountain. Tight fairways made it a very challenging course. Greens were in pretty ba shape when we played, but hopefully they aren't always like that. Fun but tough course.
Not in good shape
Been to SM 5-6 times and played both courses. Lake mint is not in good shape right now. Dead spots on greens, fairways and tees. Hopefully it's just a summer problem but they don't look like they're putting any $ in the course.
A short but challenge course
I like coming out to Stone Mountain to play golf. I enjoy the Stonemont course more than Lakemont, but that's because I've played it more.
Horrible Greens
Lakemont course had some of the worst greens I have ever played. Wish I received some sort of discount. .Stonemount greens looked perfect...Other than that, course was great
Fun Round
The front 9 is a great. The layout by the lake offers spectacular views and a good challenging course. I didn't like the back 9 as well but it was still a good challenge. The greens were struggling a bit in places, but overall, it was in good shape.
Will definitely be back
Don't waste your money
I booked on Golf Now as a hot deal...I was very disappointed with the condition of the greens...very bad shape..seems to me Marriott has let this course slide..would be worth it maybe at $10 or $15..but even at $25 it was a big letdown...there are numerous courses in much better shape I can play for the same money..I will not be returning
