Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

Stone Mountain Golf Course-Lakemont
Booking the tee time through GolfNow was the best part. Saving on the green fee... Where else can you play a 5 star resort course for that price .
Brother's Golf Outing
My brothers and I played four days and four different courses , Lakemont was the best. It's a outstanding layout. We will play it again every tri-annual trip to Atlanta.
Scenic yet demanding
When we played it was absolutely torrential rain all day long. We were warmly greeted at every opportunity. The staff were extremely helpful. There were hardly any other players on the course due to the difficult conditions. Our round took 4 and half hours as we consisted of one buggy and two walking one being a lady golfer so play was slow with changing tees, umbrellas etc. The course was in magnificent condition despite the weather. The holes were very challenging with 5 or 6 running alongside the lake, dog-legs, blind tee-shots and severe elevation changes. I would recommend a buggy as the distance between some tees was more than normal especially from 9 to 10. I would highly recommend this course and I will definitely be returning hopefully when conditions are able to display this beautifully scenic course as it should be seen.
Greens need a little more time....
Lakemont is one of my favorite Atlanta courses and one that I play often. The first 6 holes are some of the most beautiful views in Atlanta golf. The course is a good but fair layout and one that rewards good course management. The course had just opened from being closed a while for maintenance and honestly, they should have kept it closed for another couple of weeks to get the greens in better shape. Many of the greens were unputtable especially on the front nine. The rest of the course was in good shape for the time of year. I'll be back but will either wait for the greens to grow in and heal a little better or just play Stonemont. The staff at the club is first rate as is the pro shop and restaurant.
Amazing Service
The Staff makes all the difference in the world. While course condition was as to be expected in Georgia for the time of year, the service levels were above and beyond.
Top 5 Public in Atlanta
Played here twice last year. Fairways and greens were pristine. #1 is my favorite par 5, an intimidating but excellent opening hole with a great view and the soothing sound of chimes from the tower across the lake as you putt out.
Shorter than Stonemont but just as challenging. Well worth playing during the week when early afternoon deals are under $20. In 2013 Lakemont was periodically closed for tournaments or maintenance so you might want to call ahead.

Mustgo
Challenging and exciting! And breathtaking scenery
Pretty location, challenging terrain
Stone mountain provides a stunning backdrop for many challenging and difficult pin placements
Magnificent Greens
I have never seen this course in better shape from tee box to greens. An absolute must play this time of the year,
Enjoyable
This course is very enjoyable. Their are some scenic views of Stone Mountain and the course is in pretty good shape. Greens rolled nice and fairways were in good shape. I would play Lakemont again and look forward to trying Stonemont in the future.
Very scenic, but very narrow
Very relaxing, very scenic. So so pretty. Come now and enjoy the fall foliage as well. It's so pretty.
Played Lakemont from the blues.
Tip#1. Leave your driver at home. All the fairways are narrow.
Tip#2. Its narrower than you think
Tee box is good. Fair way is good. Green is also good. Actually, the greens are fantastic good. Landscaping is awesomest. Starter and Marshall is friendly. Beer cart lady is fast.
Will play again...
nice course, but some greens still need work.
Got unlucky with pace of play. The group in front of our threesome was a very slow foursome. Over 3 hours to play just the front nine. Marshalls were nowhere to be seen. They should have realized this on the teebox of the first hole.
The greens on the front nine were shabby. They looked like work was being done to them, but had not fully grown in, as yet. Tough to score with these conditions.
Lakemont course ok stonemont poor
The lakefront course was in decent shape and appeared to be better taken care of. THE PROBLEM IS THEY CHARGE YOU $10 TO PARK TO PLAY YORK ROUND. ADDITIONAL TO YOUR TEE TIME RATE. BOOOOOOOOOOO
GREAT COURSE
GREAT LANDSCAPE VIEWS AROUND COURSE!!!
AWESOME TEE SHOTS.
The Lakemont course has a great scenic view. Lightning safety shed and bathrooms on the course. We'll maintainers course.
Staffs are friendly specially the ones at the bag drop off area. Golf carts have rain gear for the golf bag. Clean and very organized pro shop. I had a marvelous time,
Why pay $10 park gate fee to get to the course?
Stone Mountain Lakemont
Green are bad shape, fairways are great. Play Stonemont, its a better track. Only improvement in Lakemont is number nine.
Course is in really good shape
Fun, challenging course. Beautiful views of the lake and the Mountain.
nice course
i will be back to play stonemont nxt time i go play
Nice staff, great views, poor layout, maintenance problems
This course okay. If it were cheaper or weren't suffering the maintenance issues they have, I'd give it 3 stars. The course is on a great piece of land, and there are fantastic views of Stone Mountain all over the course. But those two the maintenance and cost really knock it down a star.
The staff are friendly and helpful enough. No complaints there. And while I know the course can play pretty slow at times, and the Stonemont Course can be even slower (there was a long line of carts at the first tee for that course every time I drove by it), pace of play wasn't an issue for my partner and me.
What was an issue was maintenance. There are several holes with some pretty serious flooding around the greens. This is even the case on some greens that were on high ground. Since it really hasn't rained here lately, it actually appears to be their own irrigation system causing the flooding, which is kind of mind-boggling to me. As a result of this, a few of the greens are cut almost at fairway length (presumably not to cause tracks on the greens). And even leaving aside those areas, there are several greens with dying areas or where they appear to be in the process of redoing the greens. Whatever the issue is, it definitely affects the round. Teeboxes are also kind of bare in places, but this isn't a major issue.
I also think the course is a poor layout. First of all, I've never seen a drive between the 9th and the 10th holes to rival this one. And that's just the worst of several long drives. This means that walking is basically an impossibility. That may not matter to a lot of people, but it does to me. Also, while short, the course is quite difficult. That's not a bad thing. But a 6400 yard course with 4 par 3s ranging from 195-220 is ridiculous, in my opinion. The only places where play was slow were the par 3's, because they're just too long and end up, from a pace of play standpoint, being short par 4's where you're forced to wait on the tee. I simply don't understand golf course architects that think that all or most par 3's should play 200+ yards from the back tees--especially when the back tees are as short as they are here, and the targets on those holes are so small and heavily guarded. Leaving that aside, the layout is unspectacular--not great but not bad.
I wouldn't go out of my way to dissuade someone from playing here. But I also don't think it's worth the money, and it's likely to be a very frustrating experience for a lot of novice golfers.
