Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

Nice staff, great views, poor layout, maintenance problems

This course okay. If it were cheaper or weren't suffering the maintenance issues they have, I'd give it 3 stars. The course is on a great piece of land, and there are fantastic views of Stone Mountain all over the course. But those two the maintenance and cost really knock it down a star.

The staff are friendly and helpful enough. No complaints there. And while I know the course can play pretty slow at times, and the Stonemont Course can be even slower (there was a long line of carts at the first tee for that course every time I drove by it), pace of play wasn't an issue for my partner and me.

What was an issue was maintenance. There are several holes with some pretty serious flooding around the greens. This is even the case on some greens that were on high ground. Since it really hasn't rained here lately, it actually appears to be their own irrigation system causing the flooding, which is kind of mind-boggling to me. As a result of this, a few of the greens are cut almost at fairway length (presumably not to cause tracks on the greens). And even leaving aside those areas, there are several greens with dying areas or where they appear to be in the process of redoing the greens. Whatever the issue is, it definitely affects the round. Teeboxes are also kind of bare in places, but this isn't a major issue.

I also think the course is a poor layout. First of all, I've never seen a drive between the 9th and the 10th holes to rival this one. And that's just the worst of several long drives. This means that walking is basically an impossibility. That may not matter to a lot of people, but it does to me. Also, while short, the course is quite difficult. That's not a bad thing. But a 6400 yard course with 4 par 3s ranging from 195-220 is ridiculous, in my opinion. The only places where play was slow were the par 3's, because they're just too long and end up, from a pace of play standpoint, being short par 4's where you're forced to wait on the tee. I simply don't understand golf course architects that think that all or most par 3's should play 200+ yards from the back tees--especially when the back tees are as short as they are here, and the targets on those holes are so small and heavily guarded. Leaving that aside, the layout is unspectacular--not great but not bad.

I wouldn't go out of my way to dissuade someone from playing here. But I also don't think it's worth the money, and it's likely to be a very frustrating experience for a lot of novice golfers.

Lakemont Course

Greens are a bit slow and some were under repair, but the pricing certainly reflected that and the rest of the course is wonderful.

Great course even tho greens have just been aerification had just been done.

Course has a lot of different challenges that made for a great outing. Greens had been aerified but Golf Now and Stone Mountain notified of same on website. Fairways could use attention in places but overall in great shape considering the weather this summer. Would play again and would recommend to anyone. Will be back to play the Stonemount Course. Beautiful views and wildlife everywhere.

Airification!

We had to play cart path only due to sod condition, so we followed the direction but all the other players drive into fairways that we had to passed some hassle players. One 1some player weared tee shirts and sloppy sandals! Course was nice shape, staffs were so friendly and casual, and some guests were nerdy supercasuals! It was hot Friday afternoon, a-ha.
I would like to advise the managements to be improved, more yardage guidance on splinker heads or GPS carts, a little more hazzards visible for first time players, thank you.

Beautiful views, but greens need work

several of the greens are in pathetic condition. I don't like the fact that you can't take the golf cart to your car. They have a snack bar at the turn that serves great hamburger, but it is rarely open.

Sub Par

5 and half hour long round, Marshall's did nothing to keep the pace of play up, greens in horrible condition, green on hole 4 was one of the worst greens I have ever seen. I have played a lot of courses, from municipal to ultra private, and this course ranks in the bottom on overall. I strongly recommend not wasting your money or time. It also cost $10 just to drive into the area.

The 'greens' should be called 'browns'

The greens are in HORRIBLE shape. I have played 30 rounds out there, but I will not be playing there again. They have gotten so horrendous that it is no longer fun. I would prefer to putt in my front yard.

TIME TO PUT IN MINI VERDE GREENS

Nice course with great scenery around Stone Mountain.
The greens were rough, slow with some bare spots on several holes. Course does not drain well after rains. Some muddy areas in a few fairways. Good place to practice if you get a Hot Deal on Golf Now as 36 holes and usually not crowded in the afternoons during the week.

Course was in poor shape.

I played this course a lot growing up. The course was in very poor condition compared to what I remember. The greens were burning up and had ball marks all over them from people not repairing. The fairways were covered with divots that people didn't repair. The tee boxes were also in poor shape. It is tourist season so a public course could see a lot of wear and tear in a very short period of time but at the same time it could be maintained a little better. On the other hand the scenery is beautiful like always. Service was also friendly. A great course layout. If you can play for the right price this course is worth trying.

Awesome course

This course is awesome, but was very challenging. The narrow fairways require straight tee shots so hit'em long and straight.
