Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

Play Stonemont, Don't Waste your money or time on Lakemont
First of all, this is the LOUDEST golf course I have ever played. I played on a Sunday and there was a Stone Mountain boat tour that followed us around the golf course for the first 5 holes. Once the boat tour decided to stop yelling at us, a bell tower began playing church music for about 20 minutes straight. Greens were not maintained. It's a joke how big of difference there is between the greens on Stonemont and Lakemont. I will not be playing the Lakemont course ever again.
Definitely, a must play golf course, its challenging but fair. If the greens get faster, change that to very challenging.
The tee boxes, bunkers, and fairways are in very good condition. The greens are in the 85 to 90% range, the speed to me was a little slow. In my opinion, most greens & the fringe area were over-watered, a little soggy when walking on & around the greens. Golf carts & practice area were in very good condition. I did not use the Driving Range.
Great views of the mountain and lake, but challenging
This is my first time playing Lakemont and I now understand the reviews I read that include awesome views throughout the course, but the course seemed to me to be "fit in" to the surroundings instead of being planned accordingly. The front nine and back nine are extremely different with most of the water on the front nine. We chose to play from the tips and maybe that made it more difficult for us to score or find the fairway. The fairways were fairly narrow and mishits are punished more than average on this course. Be prepared to hit long on all of the par 3's which are close to 200 yds apiece. All in all I think the next time I play this course I will be better prepared and make a lot less reads and mishits. Well worth it for the money and beautiful views of Stone Mountain and the lake.
GREAT VALUE for the money
One of the better courses and facilities in the public/ golf for pay public realm in Atlanta. Through 'normal' channels green fees are in the $45 range but through Golfnow, we played for $20 apiece. GREAT VALUE. Course is well designed and centers around mostly manageable par 4. On this day, wind was high/blustery and so were our scores but it was still an enjoyable. Greens are a little slow and slightly 'lumpy' due to a ton of rain the night before.
All of the staff was great....even the cart girl who checked on us several times. Will definitely be back especially with Golfnow Hot Deals...even if they are a bit spur of the moment.
One of my favorite courses in this area
I always come back to Stone Mountain Golf courses. The price is always right on Golfnow.com, the courses are always well maintained, and it's a beautiful setting for golf.
Great course, nice views
Lakemont course is in great condition as usual. The views on the first few holes are always amazing. Greens are a tad slow but smooth. One or two holes had some damp areas due to rain, but wasn't soaked, and because of this it was a cart path only day.
I would highly recommend playing at either Stone Mountain golf courses. I just wish their range was off grass and not off mats. I played here a few times and it's always been off the mats.
Great way to spend a Saturday
Everything was great with the exception of the noises and distractions of the rest of the park. I definitely will return!
Beautiful course but kicked my butt
The course was beautiful for the Sunday noon tee time. Course was well maintained, with a little bit of sand out on a couple fairways to fill in some spots. Overall, in very good shape for play. This course has tons of elevation changes and a good bit of water to play over. Very challenging but an enjoyable round for sure.
Fun course, very picturesque.
Fun course! More open than its sister course (Stonemont). Very picturesque as it winds around the lake at beautiful Stonemountian. The greens were bumpy and needed some attention. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful.
Nice Layout and thats about it.
We played the lake course and booked online. I had played the course about 10 years ago and had fond memories so I took a friend down to the Atlanta area for a couple of rounds of golf in between our Friday visit to the Masters.
Driving up to the course I noticed a lot of dead grass and brown spots. We arrived early to use the range and enjoy the weather and views.
The range was in bad shape and the ball dispenser did not operate correctly. We were also told everything is running smooth and runnning on time. What a lie. We teed off 20 minutes late and behind a 5 some. The round took just over 5 1/2 hours. The greens were rough, the fairaways in bad shape, etc, etc etc. No course marshall out there to move play along.
This is bad because the course does have a great layout. and huge potential.
Course OK
6 goups of women in front of us--course did not tell us that.It took forever to play.
Nice view long par 3s
The lake mount course in nice ti play. The greens where just holed and sanded putting was not the best . They could have rolled them better. Sand traps have good sand in them. You still have to pay $10 to get into park. You get a coupon for small bucket of range balls of sleeve of balls. Shortest par 3 was 160ish. Course is a littl narrow on some holes . So hit them straight. If you have never played it you should give it a try.
Really enjoy this course playable by all levels.
Great views really fun course to play take my friends there a least once a challenge for all levels of golfer water, hills, bunkers a little bit of every thing hope you like water.
Beautiful course to play
Because of the recent storm about 2-3 days ago, the course was wet and the cart had to stay on the cart path only. There were few players before and after me and they were courteous. I played alone and saw several groups of single players. Excepting for some mud-holes and pot-holes, the overall playing experience was quite enjoyable.
Great Course that looks bad
Stone mountain is really a great course but when it's bad it's bad. Right now the course doesn't look very well. But by midsummer maybe it will.
The course had a great practice facility, snack bar, and clubhouse.
I played lakemont and was not impressed with the greens. I would recommend hybrid bermuda greens to hold up in the winter months. Other than that, no complaints.
The water makes it very challenging!
I would go back to the course as much as possible.
GREAT LOOKING COURSE!
THE COURSE WAS BEAUTIFUL. WITH THE STONE SHOWING ON SOME OF THE FAIRWAYS AND THE ROCKS SURROUNDING SOME OF THE HOLES ARE AMAZING. NICE COURSE AND VERY FRIENDLY. PLAYS FAST AND VERY NICE GREENS. WILL BE BACK AGAIN.
Mediocre course
The course was very wet, we played a 4 some 2 days after some rain, the course does not drain well. Not only that but i played this course in the fall as well and the green never changed they are not good! very fuzzy and a ton of dead spots. the ball roll is terrible. For the price the charge to play 18 with a cart $50+ they really need to start attending to the greens at minimal.
course was great greens were a little rough
The course was in good shape or should I say the fairways were great but the greens need a little work but it is winter and it is bent grass so I would have to say it was average but should have been 35.00 rather than 48.00
The recommendation should have read "I don't recommend this course at this time".
The course layout, views and challenging factor are off the charts. Fairways and greens need a lot of TLC.
The follow up by the course management team indicates their commitment to having a great golf course.
