Slowest round ever
Front 9 took 3 hours. Slowest round I have ever played. Greens were extremely slow, despite course guide stating they run 11-12 during the winter. Staff allowed our twosome to start on the back 9 to ease pace of play however it still took over 5 hours despite only having one twosome in front of us on the back 9.
Revitalized Course. Improved and well managed Now as of 2016-2018
The Course will eat you up on your first play. On your 2nd through 5th play you will be struggling to break 90. (playing from the tips) So imagine if I average mid 80s to high 70s at a course rated between 70 to 72, Southland has a 73.0 rating. so do the math. If you can break 80 consistenly on this course. You should be proud and consider yourself Promoted from Recreational to Amateur golfer. ( Not too sure which takes precedence): Amateurs participate in Tournaments, So you are ready for the PROAM.. ( ;-)
Windy, Cold, Fun
We played in the winter in GA. So you never know what you are going to get. It was windy and cold, but still a lot of fun. The greens were hard to read, but I think mostly because it is winter and cold. Course is still well-kept and challenging as always. I have been playing here since 2002 and still come back.
Great day to be on the course
The course was in excellent condition . The greens were very fair. They will be good and fast in the spring.
Great Features
Is a chalenging course. Exelent for intermidiate golfers.
Great friendly Course
The course was in great conditions since we had a week of rain. The greens were still fast. The only improvement that could be made is draining in the bunkers. I landed in a few during the round and all had standing water.
The Course was in great shape
This course offers a challenge to golfers at all levels. Hitting the ball long is not an advantage on a lot of the holes. You have to be accurate and place the ball in position that will allow you to attack the pin. Greens are excellent, however, don't get above the hole. Almost a guaranteed three putt.
Good course to play
The course is playing good. The greens are decently fast. The bunkers were not playable for the most part. But otherwise, Do go play this course. You'll go through your bag off the tee, have some up and down hill approach shots as well. Hole 8 is an near impossible par 4...never seen anything like it. Still go play this course.
Great course
Great course, great layout and greens. Rudy is very cordial.
Fun course at good price!
This course is in better shape this year and it’s fun to play. I will play this course at least once a month.
Great value
Always enjoy this course especially for the golf now deals available.
Great Value - friendly staff
This is a great course for the $$.
No frills, decent layout. I always enjoy my round.
My only real complaint is that the bunkers are unplayable for the most part. We usually play them as a hazard and pull the ball out.
Gem of a course at a great price!
I was paired with a sweetheart of a couple that played there often. Helped me navigate the course. Very challenging course that’s had me thinking the whole day. Will play again
a bargain gem in Georgia
great round of golf on this coursr based aroynd the Southland development. The course is a good mic of dogleg holes good length par 5s and interesting par 3s. This is not a stand on the tee and thrash your driver course, tbe holes nerd some thinking and i loved that. Tbe greens were in superb shape and rolled very nicely for the time of year. The only down side to the course was that some of the bunkers needex attention but that was it. The green fee was $15 including cart, so to me this was an absolute bargain for the condition of the course . Staff were super friendly too, will definitley play this again when i am next in town.
Golf advisor has issues
Andy is good, Brian and Rudy are the best. Golf advisor calls this a private course, it is a public course. Golf advisor says says it has bent grass greens, well they are championship bermuda greens. Golf advisor has a picture of Stone Mt Park on this web site, Why? it has nothing to do Southland Golf Course, it is a beautiful golf course why not a picture of it? Golf advisor please fix this.
6 hour round
If you are playing on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday look to have a 6 hour round.. Twice I've been here on a weekend and had to wait 1.5 hour to start round and 6 hour pace of play. Greenso are in great shape.
Not the usual round
Made a last minute decision to go. Made a tee time for 1:40. Got to the course and there about 20 people standing around waiting for a cart to show up. Went into clubhouse and was told they are running about 1 hour behind! Desk person said that all carts are working but they were all out. While my playing partner and I were discussing if we wanted to wait around, we were offered a discounted greens fees and a free bucket of range balls. Final able to start about 45 mins late. Pace was very slow so we were only able to get 13 holes in before it got to dark to play.
Greens were in great condition and were fast. I’ve played here many, many times over a lot of years and this is the first time we’ve ever had an issue with having to wait that long for a cart and slow play. I’ll consider this an unusual circumstance and will return without question.
