About
Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo is one of the top 10 golf courses in Illinois. The course was built on rolling farmland covered with native wild grasses. The layout eases you into the challenges with a links-style front nine that is less demanding than the back nine. The fairways are invitingly wide but if you miss them, you'll be faced with thick fescue. The back nine takes advantage of the surprisingly undulating terrain, which is unexpected since just across the river the land is almost totally flat. Annbriar's signature hole, the par-4 11th, was voted the best hole in the St. Louis area. From an elevated tee, golfers enjoy a stunning view as they play down into a valley. This hole is also the no. 1 handicap hole on Annbriar Golf Course.

Outstanding December conditions
On one of the warmest December days I can ever remember playing golf, we found a last minute tee time at Annbriar. The conditions are usually some of the very best in the area, and for early winter, the course could not be in much better shape. Special kudos to the grounds crew as the greens were excellent.
The place was packed and that led to a pretty long round of almost five hours. Our issue was that there seemed to be a lot of twosomes ahead of us. If the course had grouped them into foursomes, it would have helped our pace of play.
The front nine is pretty open and easier than the back nine which is quite challenging with many forced carries. In addition, the course has more elevation changes than you might think for the middle of SW Illinois. Plus, it likely would be a difficult course to walk.
If you’ve never played Annbriar, you really should. Not sure if it is the area’s best course but it is on the very short list of them. I’m already looking forward to my next round there.

Annbriar Just Gets It
Annbriar is no question the best course in the St. Louis metro area. Not only that, they just get it too. It's November 6th and you can play this beautiful course for $50 on the weekend. The course was in termendous shape for November, pace of play was outstanding and their restaurant is a great place to hang out during a frost delay or after the round.
To tell you how good Annbriar is, let's compare what I experienced last week. The Missouri Bluffs was $88, aerated greens, tees bad, bunkers not raked and they were only concerned that we keep all 4 wheels of our cart on the path.

Annbriar was $50, greens perfect, tees great and bunkers raked. They are truly happy that you came out and played at their course.

5 hour round
Love the course but quit stacking the t-times so tight that it takes 5 hours. No beer cart or marshall to speed up play. Guys behind the counter should work at QT.- zero personality. I drive out there because it is a good track and in excellent condition. The girls in the bar should run the place as they're nice and work hard.
