Annbriar Golf Course

Great course and service. They handled rain delay very well. Great layout even though a little wet. Good elevation changes. Need drinking water on course. Need to have designated pin positions or color code flags. Small flags impossible to see.

Annbriar is the nicest public course in the metro area, you won’t be disappointed.

I think this was the first time I’ve played Annbriar and I left disappointed. This review should

have been an euphoric one because they finally get the limbs down on the large sycamore tree on hole 13. The hole looks wonderful and no more balls hitting limbs from your fairway approach shot. Kudos to Annbriar finally doing this.

I feel service issues still plague this course. I felt the course did something that you cannot do when the temperature is 95 and the heat index is 105. No water on the course or beverage cart. This is unacceptable. If you don’t have water on the course (maybe Covid concerns) and you will not have a beverage cart, then you MUST tell all players this when they check in. Then each player can then prepare to get fluids before they tee off. On the positive side, Annbriar has always had a cooler of ice and water stations by their bar. Another local course had no water on the course several years ago and 2 people in my foursome had to quit after 9 holes because of heat exhaustion. That’s how serious this situation is.

The service in the restaurant was non-existent. The waitress waited on another couple and walked by our table at least 5-6 times and never acknowledged us. Hard to understand.

Let’s talk about the course. Looks like they aerated the greens maybe 3-4 weeks ago. They still use the large plug technique, compared to most courses who have switched over to using the smaller plugs. The greens were extremely bumpy and slow. The fairways were starting to turn green from the warm weather. For some reason, some of the fairways have sections of discolored (brown) grass. The grass does not look dead but just brown. I noticed this more on holes 9 & 10. The price of $47 for a senior was excellent for the course you are getting. The bunkers were in great shape. I think in 3-4 weeks, the course will be playing at its usual outstanding shape. They laid sod behind hole 8 and planted some grass too. Doing some grading work at the bottom of the hill of the par 3 – 17th.

Finally, our group really struggled to determine if the pin was front, middle or back. All the flagsticks are the same color. They use a small flag on the flagstick to indicate this. Hard to see this. No other course still uses these small flags anymore. All use red, white and blue flags.

Annbriar is just a great course and layout.. greens were a little bumpy from aeration but will be good in another week or two. Fairways and tee boxes were immaculate, keep it in the fairway as the rough was extremely tough.

A Friend recommended this course to me last year. I fell in love. It's got it's difficult parts. The bunkers are probably some of the best on a public course and the greens are always in good condition for how much the weather changes in the area. Just wish people would fix the ball marks. Will always be in the top 3 go to course when I want to go play golf. Well worth the money and drive out to the course from Saint Louis.

I play Annbriar regularly. It is my favorite course in the St. Louis area.

My ratings were based on what I encountered while there. The course is absolutely as good as there is in metro St. Louis.

Playing yesterday was tough as the course was “Cart Path Only” and rightfully so after over 1.5 inches of rain the night before. That made for a lot of extra walking and many “standing water-like” shots (tee shots included).

Greens were recently aerated and sanded so that made putting nothing like I know the course to be.

Rough is ridiculously high right now and I’ll assume that’s because they can’t their mowers out on the grounds.

Don’t let this review scare you away. When it’s dry and in usual Annbriar condition, it’s as good as you’ll find.

Loved the course. Only issue, and its not the course fault. Have to blame weather. The week before the course got a lot of rain. Then the temperature dripped into the low 40’s. But the kicker was the wind. Sustained at 20-30mph with gusts in the 40’s. Pace of play was slowed due to cart path only. This made for a lot of extra walking. Again not course fault. The wind was the hardest obstacle to deal with. But with all the above, this is a very nice golf course. Already planning the next round. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Disappointing as we had a 5-some in front of us and a 6-some in front of them. Other than that, beautiful course.
