Cantigny Golf - Lakeside/Hillside

Was really excited to try Cantigny for the first time, having lived in the area for over 20 years. They have 3 9 hole courses to help with pace, but one was closed due to aerification (was not aware of this prior to tee off). This caused major issues in pace, and the first 8 holes took us 2 and a half hours to complete. We decided to skip hole 9 (sunlight was going to be a major issue) and spoke with the ranger who let us play the same 9 holes over again , now with everyone no longer on that part of the course. Ended up finishing the back end of our round in 1 hour and a half but were disappointed in having to play the same holes over again.

Otherwise, I felt the course was an appropriate challenge and had gorgeous scenery. There was some kind of black fertilizer they were using on the greens that caused our putters and balls to turn black and sticky. Nothing a little washing can't fix, but still annoying. Even with this experience, I would like to return to give it another try.

Played Woodside and Lakeside - BOTH have some real challenging holes !! Greens were like putting on glass - SUPER FAST - learned early to watch the speed that's for sure !!!!

Cantigny is Best of the Best. The experience is as close to a private golf club experience as you can get. Caddies available that are really good, or carts or walk. Condition of course is always great. Staff is wonderful and facility is very nice - maybe not great but very nice. Food is perfect for after golf food. Highly recommend if you are looking for a really great golf course that challenges you and is really fun to play.

The course is great and the staff was even better. Every hole was in great condition. Every staff person was nice and personable. I would play this course frequently if I lived in the area.

Wood side is extremely difficult. Holes 2-4 are just down right unfair LOL. the course was in good condition, stick to Hillside and Lakeside for more reasonable scores

Cantigny is expensive but it's worth the amount you pay for it, unlike other similarly priced Chicago area courses. Conditioning rivals that of top private clubs in the area outside of green speed. All of the nines are challenging but fair. Woodside is the toughest and may be the exception in terms of fairness. Overall this is a beautiful course where you rarely see other holes and feel as though you are surrounding by natural nature. Great place to impress out of town guests if a private club is not an option.

This has always been my favorite course. It's close to my house and it's beautiful. Condition was excellent. Excited to see that they plan on doing some landscaping around each ball washer...I noticed some spray painting on the ground that eluded to that. I took my dad for his bday and as a twosome in between a 4some and 3some, pace of play was great. 4 hours exact. They are known for this which is a reason I chose to play here...because of a previous commitment after the round. Excellent shape, greens are fab, and bunkers were pristine soft sand. Can't wait to come back.

As usual, Cantigny was a great place to play. The course is in fantastic condition with a nice mixture of challenging holes for seasoned golfers as well as more straightforward holes for the occasional golfer. At times, a few holes are tougher to know where to place your tee shot without a caddie if you haven't played the course before or in a while; however, the added challenge is overcome by the aesthetics of the course layout and surrounding nature. I would play this course at any chance I can and rates as one of my top choices in Illinois, possibly the Midwest.

The area had received alot of rain over the past week to 10 days. It even rained the morning of our tee time so we got out 2 hours later than scheduled. But we enjoyed coffee and conversation in the grill room before our round. The course was surprisingly dry...draining very well. There was still plenty of standing water and cart paths only was the rule. But, after all this, we still had a great time on a fabulous golf course that I had not played since I was an Asst Golf Pro here 25 yrs ago. The greens are second to none in conditioning - smooth and fast...even with all the rain. Two of our 4some rented clubs including myself. They were good clubs with one exception - the grips were worn and needed to be replaced. other than that it was a great day on a great golf course with a very good staff. Thanks for taking me back to my "Assistant" days and re-living the awesome experience that is Cantigny.

Was really looking forward to playing the course again as it's been a couple years and quite frankly the normal $95 for the rate is overpriced and I will not pay it. The $68 golf now rate was much more in line with area rates.
Teed off as a twosome after paying in clubhouse and stopped to see starter. Nobody happened to mention it was cart path only until the cart restricted us and virtually ground to a halt just off the first fairway. Great start. Course was in decent shape given all the rain lately. Pace of play with groups in front of us was slow and then the heavy rains came and washed out the rest of our round after 13 holes.
Staff needs to be a little more friendly and informational.

We did 18. Nine on Lakeside and nine on Hillside. Course should be better marked to know where you're going. We ended up giving up a hole because we were on the wrong course! I simple sign could have corrected the problem.

Beautiful course, would not pay their daily fee but with the deal I received on GolfNow, it was well worth the $$$$. Course was immaculate and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

If I lived in Chicago, I would probably play this course a lot. Really nice practice facility, pleasant employees and a tough golf course with 27 holes so you don't get bored.

We played this course on a windy day making it even more challenging than it should have been, but it presented a very fair test of golf. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in good shape and the rough was quite thick making smart recovery shots a necessity.

I did not have my "A" game and shot a 90 instead of my usual 80-82. Part of me wishes I could have played another 18 directly after we finished 18 just because I was completely unsatisfied with score and liked the course that much.

Absolutely one of the top public tracks in Chicago and definitely worth visiting!

Was fully looking forward to the round of golf! But like most people in life I do not like surprises. I am sure you can understand my surprise when reaching the green to find they the had been recently been punched. Advance notice on this would have been nice.
Also took a much earlier Tee time to play Lakeside and Hillside but did not get to play Lakeside. When we asked about it the staff admitted to having on going problems with Golf Now and that we should call to confirm the courses that we are playing. Those should be course concerns not players. I will ask you which is worse to not address the problem or to ignore it? In the end your answer doesn't matter because you did both!!
At this point would not recommend to anyone. It was also extremely buggy, not the courses fault but still made the experience less enjoyable.

Course was in great condition for this early in the season....temporary green on hole 2 of Lakeside. Spiked greens on all of Lakeside was disappointing..

While it was a 4:20 round, it felt slower and we waited on every tee, it could easily have been a 3:30 round if everyone kept up with the group in front of them and played ready golf.

Cantigny is a great course and facility however due to the time of year the greens had been recently aerated and pace of play was extremely slow because the Lakeside 9 holes were not being utilized.
