Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Very woman friendly tees.
The greens are undulating and so much fun to read to get a good putt. One water hazard got to me but for the most part no water hazards were too difficult. There are enough water hazards to give the course some nice character. Even after the heavy rain the day before the fairway drainage was super. There was some water in the bunkers and they were playing a bit muddy. Only pick it clean shots were required, no hit behind the ball and let the sand move the ball. I would rate this course as a favorite.
Great course- lots of fun
Course is in excelent shape. Fairly difficult but loads of fun.
The GPS on the carts helps first timers
Overall A good value but they are now charing $5 for practice balls.
very challenging; not much grass in fairways
fairways and roughs were like cement; a few center cut drives ended up in hazards due to extreme undulations and course conditions
Challenging with. Great layout
Course offers many challenging golf holes. I played in very windy conditions and that made the course more challenging. Course is well maintained. Play was steady with no hold-ups. I would recommend this course to all level of players.
Excellent value for the money.
The course is well maintained, challenging and they have a welcoming staff and attitude. Would definately play it again!
Excellent reasonably priced course for all levels!
We were first timers playing from the Green Tees. Accuracy off the tee is a must with water or other trouble often in play. We played in windy conditions so location was extra important. Not long so you can forego some distance and still reach the greens in reg. The greens were in excellent shape, medium fast and with some very subtle breaks that makes you groan when you see the track of your ball. We will definitely play it again.
Great course with excellent value!
I have played this course several times and always enjoy it. Very challenging. Course is well maintained. Greens were excellent and rolled really well. No complaints. Pace of play was superb. Each time I play it, I enjoy it more!
Nice layout. Needs some attention
Greens are patchy. Many of the traps are full of ground up shells and rocks. In good condition it would be a real pleasure to play. Pace of play was slow.
Tough but playable course.
Good course with very good routing. Good variety of holes that were playable if you pick the right tee. Good value. Greens where smooth with speed. Ball held when hit well. Will play again.
Excellent for low handicap golfers...
Course is in good shape, excellent value, and quick greens. Lots of sand (good sand), some of the largest bunkers we have seen, lots of "risk reward" holes, high handicap golfers should think twice about playing here even from the front tees - greens are very complex and challenging. If you can read the grain - a major help. Fairways are well kept but offer few flat/level lies. We found it fun and fast. Never waited. This review by 20 handicap and played from green tees.
Put on your "Must Play" list
Pro Shop staff started the experience on a positive note, very friendly and helpful. GPS on the cart was a major plus, accurately displayed the hole and yardages to trouble, traps, etc. Fairways were in good condition as were the tee boxes. Greens were excellent and fast with multiple levels. A very enjoyable round of golf and would recommend this as a "must play" course in SW Florida.
Lovely layout
Another course that whilst challenging gives the higher handicapper a good chance to play their shots. Nice and open with good fairways and responsive greens. Pace of play was excellent probably helped by having heavy rain in the morning which probably kept lots of the course in the pm.
Great layout, Greens were perfect
Very happy with the course, An actual Bob Cat crossed in front of us on the first Tee! awesome
Fast greens
Great course ,best rolling greens I've played in Fla,lots of challenges ,with water and bunkers on most of the holes, really disappointed when they let a 5 some play in front of us ,when they said at the start they where slammed, then we found out one of the five some was one of the owners? Are you kidding me ,not a good business move mr owner.
One of the best courses in the area.
The course is set up with 5 different tee boxes. There is a sign by the first tee recommending a tee box based on a players handicap. Pay attention to the sign. The yardage for each tee box can be very deceptive. Distance is only part of each hole. Great layouts, but you can get in trouble very easy. Greens roll very well, but are difficult unless you can get a handle on the speed and recognize the break. Have played this course twice and shot 78 once and 91 the second time.
Good Not Great
Played the course today. It was spitting rain off and on but nothing hard enough to stop play. But it did stop a lot of people from playing. The course was wide open. No one in front of us the entire time. I want to say the course was good. Nothing to special. I will have to disagree with the people who are complaining about the sand traps. They were ok. No huge stones that people were complaining about. There is a lot of water on the course but for the exception of one or two holes the water doesnt really come into play. The greens were in really good shape except for the people who dont fix there ball marks. Tee boxs were in pretty good shape. I played from the golds and prob could of played from the tips. Shot an 85 and took a 10 on 17.
It was a fun course to play and well worth the money. Every hole was a new adventure. The greens are very challenging
Playing in Florida in March can be very expensive. I just arrived in this area and checked out a several courses. This course was by far the most interesting and the price was very reasonable. I really enjoyed playing it and hope to get a few more rounds in on it before I head back norht.
Great features and great greens
Fast tough greens. Great value for $$$. Would golf there anytime
Fairways and tee grounds are in poor condition. Played this course last year and sorry to see how it has deteriorated .
Course condition has deteriorated from prior years. Disappointed and so were the people who joined me from Naples. Would not be in a hurry to play it again.
