Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club
About
Charlotte Harbor National Golf Club (formerly known as Bobcat Trail Golf Club), also known simply as "the Cat," has been considered one of Sarasota County's best courses since it opened in 1998. Each hole on this lengthy par-71 layout offers a risk-reward opportunity. This thought-provoking course requires careful course management, proper club selection, and sharp short game skills. The large greens are fast and undulating and bunkers are strategically placed throughout. There are also several water hazards that come into play. Not only does each hole offer a unique challenge, they all offer beautiful scenery with a different eye-catching feature on each. Golfers will be sure to encounter some of the abundant wildlife that inhabits the golf course including foxes, gators, hawks and osprey. The club's staff claims that any of the 18 holes could be considered a signature hole.

Nice layout with great greens
Good layout. Homes were set back some from the course. Bunkers were inconsistent and needed work. Most fairway bunkers were dirt.
The course was very challenging and needed your concentration.
The course provided the opportunity to use most of your clubs. The holes were diverse enough to keep your attention on how to plan and play each hole. The par fives on the back were challenging and required a precise third shot. Overall the greens were smooth and fast. A very enjoyable experience.
bunkers need sand/rough needs work
nice staff / course was a good holiday track
green in good shape--would play here again
loved the course
course was in great shape .loved every moment. tee shots to fairways are very receptive. golf carts tell all measurements--- great day to play golf.
OVER BOOKED AND OVER PRICED!!!
this coarse was overbooked and over priced...had to wait for a cart for 20 minutes passed our tee time ...it took at least 15 minutes to even hit a ball..each time!! asked the staff for a rain check for the back nine because it was so frustrating and they hit me with "thats not our policy". i will never reccomend this coarse to anyone and i will be sure to tell all my friends terrible i was treated at this coarse.
I recommend this course.
Overall the course is well kept and very playable. The pace of play was acceptable with very little waiting on the group in front. The sand traps are the worst and should be called gravel traps as there are large and small stones mixed with the sand. Otherwise a very enjoyable course to play.
Golf
Pace of play was awfull. The sand traps were in horrible condition and fairways very dry.
greens make the course
Nice track, although fairways were a little bumpy. I am a 19 handicap on narrow 6200 yd New York courses, and I hit a 90 playing at 5800 yards here. There are several challenging tee shots, but the fairways are mostly wide and welcoming. It was the greens that made this course fun - they were fast and true, with lots of terraces and undulations. Overall, a good deal at $50 bucks!
Time Constraints
By starting after 2 pm, and with slow play, you will not be able to complete 18 holes this time of year....But we enjoyed it and the 2 some we were paired with.
Greens need some work
Beautiful golf course, unfortunately their greens and bunkers need some drastic attention. When I see clumps of foreign grass growing all over the greens which will knock your ball off line, I think this course is shorting their maintenance budget. The bunkers on some holes are so full of rocks and shells, they almost become unplayable, unless you can borrow your buddy's club. Great layout which I have played before, but probably not coming back until this is corrected.
Course is very nice.
The course sets up well to the eye and plays very nice..I would rate it better if the sand traps had few shells and stones in them.
Glad I played and will keep playing it, but...
...bunkers are inferior when compared to the overall quality of the course and facilities. Greens have too much sand probably due to the time of year. Fairways are good but might soon need more water. I played green tees which I was told were equivalent to senior tees and though the overall distance was under 6000 yards, a couple of 400 or so yard par 4s were unfair for this senior. I carry a 12 handicap on my home course, played 4 rounds on Bobcat, hit the ball as good as at home, and shot in the high 80s on this par 71. The saving grace for this course is the staff and terrific, friendly members/regulars. They made me feel so welcome, I will continue to play Bobcat whenever I can, high scores or not.
Good course.
I've played Bobcat Trail throughout the years in my travels to Florida. It is a really good course that is very playable for most golfers. On this trip (1/27/13) I didn't find the course conditions to be as good as previous rounds. And the pace of play was terrible. 5 hours. I didn't see a ranger all day. Now I know that a weekend round at a busy course isn't going to take 4 hours or less, but I also don't understand why a facility like Bobcat Trail would be satisfied with 5 hrs. for a round of golf. I really like this course, and I will go back. But this visit wasn't up to the level I had experienced on previous visits.
Bobcat Trail
The greens were very nice. The fairways and tee boxes were beat up. The traps had pebbles/stones the size of 50 cent piece. I will not go back anytime soon.
Good shape and challenging - pace of play a bit slow
A challenging course with excellent greens although some green runoffs are a bit unfair. Some bunkers are wicked.
great course. value for the money.
really friendly staff. course is in great shape. greens are good
and fast. would play again for sure.
This course is fun to play
The course has a nice mix of hole layouts. Some of the allow you to wander and some require strategic shots to get a good score.
Worth the price
Have played course many times before. Staff super helpful and got us off on the back nine due to slow play on the front with back-up. Allowed us to finish 18 before sunset. Course has great, difficult greens, but conditions have worsened, in that traps are full of stones and course a little too wet. They have also continued to make the course easier, with ninth hole shortened and now fourteenth hole, a good, fair 175 yard par 3, now is simplistic 130 yd. par 3.
Good course, brutally slow
As a single I was paired with a great husband and wife couple from Minn.. Together we made a very slow day an enjoyable experience.
We saw rangers but have no idea what they were doing....certainly not moving slower players along. Great greens, fun layout, slow old men.
