Very fun and challenging layout
Enjoyable course with a fun layout. Lot of blind tee shots but rewarding when you hit a good one. Conditions weren’t great but it was also mid November. Definitely would play again especially at the price.
Asheville Muni
This course could be a great asset to Asheville and visitors to the area.
All Around Awful
The front 9 layout was OK, the back 9 however really makes you scratch your head. #10 doesn't have a fairway, you tee off into a bank and let it roll down next to the cart path. #11 tees off uphill into a gulley that looks like it would be better served as a ski slope, it might as well be considering there is no grass growing on it. The grass was sparse throughout the course as well.
Pace of play was horrible. Our team time was 940, the starter told us to go out at 915. Normally this is not a bad thing but upon getting to the 2nd tee we realized it was going to be a long day. There were 2 twosomes in front of us waiting on a group of 4 to play. They never let anyone through and were never asked to.
Spend your money and time elsewhere.
Good time for value
Lifetime resident and would say that the course is better condition than past. Pace of play is terrible because of no Rangers. Front 9 was in good condition fairways and greens ..the back 9 leaves something to be desired dirt in the fairway and greens all chopped up.
Cart paths in very bad condition.
Tees, fairways overgrown.
Some fairways have no grass in large areas.
Greens have numerous dead grass spaces.
Course
This course has a major problem in that there are no marshals on the course. Pace of play was pathetic . Also half of the fairways had no grass on it. They need to invest some money in maintenance , grass, and cart paths. This course could be a nice municipal , but at the rate it’s headed, landfill looks more likely.
Continued decline
This is the worst maintained course in the Asheville area. It continues to decline. So sad. Well designed by Donald Ross with an inspiring history, story and Muni video regarding racial equity. But neglect is everywhere and both the City of Asheville and Pope Management can share the blame.
needs some maintenance work
Tee boxes were pretty good, Greens were poor to fair, quite bumpy and did not put a true line. Fairways were extremely lacking grass, especially on the back 9. The front side is fairly flat and pretty playable. The back 9 is like playing mountain valleys and for the most part, had large dry areas with little or no grass. Fairways were in poor condition. This course was probably once a very nice outing but in it's present condition, i wouldn't bother to play it again until there is some significant maintenance work done. If this is municipally owned, the city needs to ante up some money and put this course back into good condition. Right now, especially the back 9 is not worth playing.
Nice course for the cost
Greens not great but good. Overall for a group of duffers great for the money. Staff ver nice.
Very BAD
Terrible conditions. Best thing is under topdressed, unmowed, fungus riddled greens. Bare tees, concrete bunkers, dead fairways. The worst it has been in decades.
Great little course that was relaxing, fun, and chaallenging.
Sucked!!!!
Beat up, overplayed, not maintained. I quit after nine. I won't go back until there is new management.
Historic layout poor condition
This is a great Donald Ross design, unfortunately the place is really run down and the course conditions are very poor. I played with my wife and 2 local players. The ladies tees were impossible to find as several holes had no markers. The staff was friendly, golf carts are in very poor condition. This course needs a huge infusion of funds and a lot of work to bring it back, including the clubhouse.
It’s a shame
This is a great Don Ross layout that has been left for dead. There are brown and dirt areas in the fairways. There are areas of high grass in the middle of fairways. I’m not sure if they are hazardous or ground under repair. The greens have areas with dead grass. Some of the tees have areas without grass. The courses was packed, so there should be plenty of revenue for maintenance. It took 2 and half hours to play the front nine. The two nines are totally different. The front is open and the back is through the woods,. It’s a great track that needs a lot of TLC.
