Asheville Municipal Golf Course

Fairways and tee boxes were in bad shape. Slow play and waited 40 minutes to tee off. Greens were good but everything else needs work.

Ok for practicing shots but greens are spotty to say the least and unkept and fairways are thin and bare

I’ve played many courses in my 71 years. This one was in the worst condition of any I can remember. Many of the greens had unseeded dark patches; the fairways had many rough spots or bare dirt and several unmarked sewage ditches that posed serious injury hazards. The “tee boxes” were basically non-existent and/or poorly marked. The course has been seriously neglected.

12:08 tee time booked on GolfNow. Tee time was not honored until 12:40 because of the men’s league that tees off between 11:30 and 12:30. Had to leave the course on the thirteenth hole because of the twenty minute wait to tee off and we were on pace for a 7 hour round. If there is a men’s league that goes from 11:30 to 12:30 why are there available tee times during that time?

The starter did not monitor the first tee, allowing groups to wait for the leading group to reach the green before teeing off on the oar four fist hole. Had 12:16 tee time, got off at 12: 45. No Marshall’s on the course. Three groups on 14 tee. Local skins game had all tee times from 11:00 to 12:00. Didn’t clear first tee until 12:25.

The course has a great tradition and thanks to Asheville recreation department it has an embarrassing future. Course continues to deteriorate.Every year in mid August it dies and the back nine is an embarrassment..Pope needs to be replaced.

Needs directional signage for next holes. Greens had large bad spots. Starter was rude and condescending. Could be a fun course with a little TLC.

This course had a lot of rain 5 days ago. The course was a mess.

They should have not charged regular rates for the condition of the course. It was a boggy, smelly mess. The grass needed cutting. The fact they had signs up trying to hire people tells me a lot...maybe no staff?

Front desk guy was deadpan and poor at being friendly and welcoming.

We paid for 18 and left at nine holes.

The started jams people up and ruins the pace of play EVERY time. He's always grump and not the slightest bit friendly. He put two walkers in front of us and behind us (we play fast and had a cart) so we sat around waiting.

What a mess our entire day was...

The only reason I gave two stars for course conditions is because the area has had a lot of flooding. But even the holes on higher elevation had mostly crab grass for the roughs and the fairways were not great.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. The course itself is such a fun layout (the back 9 especially!) but it needs so care. The fairways were very bad on the back especially. The greens were the slowest I’ve ever seen. The pace on the front is always slow but speeds up on the back. Overall, rough conditions made it kind of a bummer to play.

Front nine designed and forgotten by Donald Ross. Worst course I’ve seen in years. No turtle back greens and the front just goes back and forth flat. Back is worst; literally put holes whoever they through they could.

Greens putted well in spite of some rite around the edges, fairways were decent, tee boxes were spotty. Well worth the $20.50 I spent on the hot deal. Would come back.
