I'll be back
Tee boxes beginning to grow in. Greens still slow after rain. Very poor fairway drainage on several holes. Some greens with very bad areas. Good value for money.
Poor Course Conditions
Unfortunately, poor course conditions and lack of course marshals have ruined a real gem of a course that I’ve always looked forward to playing over the years. Fairways are in fair shape but many greens and tee boxes are in bad shape with large patches of bare dirt. Worst, the pace of play is extremely slow. Fivesomes are allowed with many golfers marking very, very short putts and allowing others to putt out before fininishing — perhaps the soft greens encourages this common practice. I never saw a marshal and this course could use several. I left after 13 holes because it was so frustrating waiting 10 minutes between each shot. On the positive side, the staff is very friendly and the maintenance crew is taking steps to improve conditions. Hopefully, the Asheville Muni will return to be a course I and others will want to play while visiting Asheville.
2 courses in 1
Even with plugged greens, the rolls were fairly true. Several spots on the greens have been "lost." Many tee boxes meed to grow in.. Very slow greens today. Front 9 is flat and wide open. Back 9 is for shot makers with elevation changes on most holes. I'll be back.
Great Beginner's Course
Flat & easy front 9 (perfect for a beginner)
Once you can break 50 on the front - try the back 9
(very hilly & much more difficult)
Great course, fun to play
My buddies and I decided to check out this course recently and had a great time. Course has improved greatly over the years so kudos to the golf maintenance department!
Looking forward to a return visit!!!
visiting daughter
first time playing in Asheville while visiting daughter and her family. Course was wide open, with almost no water.. Number of blind shots and some difficult terrain. Greens were slow. Rewards accuracy more than distance. Was told first time average golfers seldom break 100, but shot a 95.
Help needed from management
It would help (a lot) if the management would post some information about what their plans are for repairing the course. They've had flooding followed by root-killing heat, which explains some of the issues they're dealing with. But I've been playing this golf course for more than a dozen years and it has NEVER looked this bad: dirt tee boxes, ruined aprons, fungus-plagued greens, huge swaths of dead (sprayed?) crabgrass in the fairways...the list can - and does - go on and on. Just post what you plan to do to fix all of this - unless you don't plan to do any such thing, which is what your customers are beginning to think.
Minor complaining is turning into major grumbling, and you would do well to address the growing dissatisfaction before some of your well-connected golfers take their issues to your lease holder. This isn't meant as a threat; it's meant as a heads-up. Pay attention. Spend the money it takes to fix the course. This is a well used course and you make plenty of money from your traffic.
Tell people your plans and then follow up on them. You're looking at serious trouble down a very short road if you don't. And thanks for the hard work you do put in. We notice when you do.
Please...treat this wonderful layout as the community gem it has been for so many years. Do your job!
Pathetic
Going downhill fast. No positive areas. Several greens now have fungus dead spots. SAD. At least there is some grass on bare tees now, but you have to water it. Some gold (senior) tees are in tall rough, and are not close to level. I could go on and on. Muni gets worse every time I play it.
Manage needs to address problems
The course is failing fast...Some of the massive crabgrass has died but there is no grass in many areas...ie some tee boxes and around several greens...Our local pride and joy is in trouble...Play today was really slow Four elder gentleman in there eighties were attempting to play really slow....they even drove onto the 3rd green...they should have been playing as 2twosomes ...The course manager was out but avoided the several groups complaining about slow play...but he did get a chance between the 4and 5 hole to do some texting despite our effort s to get his attention...time for the city to start managing our pride and joy
Great place to play.....
Greens were in good shape and play was steady even though the course was full. Always meet nice folks here. Fairways on the back weren’t the greatest but it’s a fun course that challenges all levels of skill. Keep up the good work!
Enjoyed the day.....
Good value!
Enjoyed another fun round yesterday at The Asheville Golf Course. Greens are in great shape and the rest of the course is coming along. Staff is friendly and the pace was good.
Great course
Great course for all levels of players. But did not appreciate coming up behind two groups of walkers; one group had 6 and another group of 4 and they did not allow the two of us to play through.
Cheap golf in Asheville
As nice as Asheville is, there aren't many golf courses that are public in the area, at least that are affordable. This is one of the few I would pay to play. The best aspect of this course are the greens. Well maintained. The tees and fairways are so so. You have a 50/50 chance of getting a good/bad lie. The front nine is flat and you will need to score low to have any chance of a good round. Once you hit the back nine it's a whole different golf course. Lots of hills with lots of slope and challenging holes to play through. Honestly, you don't play here for perfect conditions or the layout or anything. It's a good place to play if you just don't want to spend a lot to get in 18 holes.
Another Great Day on the Course
Played again today and the course just keeps getting better. Friendliest staff of any course in the area. Greens are perfect. They have resodded a few of the tees and I look forward to them growing again.
We have great hope for the new unplayable tee boxes
Course overall in good shape despite tee boxes...Some of the locals said a round had been taking up to 5:50 minutes this week due to level of holiday gclfers and absence of any course management or ranger
Love the our course
Hopefully the sod will take on the tee boxes and someone leaves the club house to deal with slow play....This is where you find out if any management is occurring.....
Fun Day at Asheville GC
Had another great day at the Asheville GC. Greens were perfect. Staff was friendly and the beer was cold! Can't wait to play again.
Why do you continue to play muni? You give it 1 star every time you play yet you're back out playing. Obviously, you no nothing about grass. Muni is a cool season grass golf course and goes through this every year. Do everyone a favor and play somewhere else.
