Green Grass
This course was great for the money. I was glad the grass was Green- still dormant in SC. The Greens were super fast. I would go back and play again.
Fun Layout
Great municipal course. Front 9 is flat and open, back 9 is narrow with topography and more angled shots. Pace of play can be super slow on weekends due to proximity to downtown AVL and affordability.
My experience
I love golf and always have a good time. But whenever I played here on Sunday, February 18th, it was extremely crowded. Our tee time was 1:48pm, but didn't tee off until an hour later. We had other golfers on our heels the whole time, as we were waiting for the people in front of us the whole time. Needless to say, we didn't finish before it got dark, and had to cut our game short. But it was a good price to play here and the course wasn't in terrible condition, despite this time of the year.
okay but cheap
I've played this course many times - just know that it's a muni course and that the back 9 doesn't resemble the front - I lost my PW on one of the greens and still waiting for someone to return it - my fault but come on who wants a Ping G-30 wedge w/a senior shaft - oh just about anyone who plays there with lousy clubs.
I'm hoping that someone will turn it in or it's a loss of $150 - my fault but still it burns me that no one had found it yet> really
Course needs help
Back nine still needs a lot of effort...front nine in ok condition
Good Bad
Front 9 was good..except for the forward tee boxes which are sort of stuck in the fairways and tough to find!! Back 9 is tough...and there is a lot of bare ground. One tee box was 100% dirt. But the pace was fast as there wasn't a crowd that day. And the discounted rice on GolfNow was great.
Thank you for playing at Asheville Golf Course and taking the time to post reviews. The Golf Course Superintendent and Maintenance Staff have been working very hard to bring the course back in to shape and are continuously making improvements. We look forward to having you back soon.
One of my better rounds
Just played 9 holes; the front nine.
Sand was in good condition this time.
Fairways a little tight; rough a little easy (thank you); greens running 8-9. Course was busy, but didn't wait much at all; finished 9 in a little over 1 and a half hours.
We are glad you enjoyed your round here at the Asheville Golf Course. We hope you will be able to join us again soon.
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent round. As we are always open to suggestions and input, I would appreciate a phone call to discuss your round here and provide me with more information as to why your experience here didn't meet your expectations. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Good for beginners
It was a fairly easy course. Greens were very fast. Fairway were wide. No real hazards on the front nine.
Fairways were in poor condition, green were in very good condition.
Cold and windy
Only played 9 holes this time; the front 9. Winter rye needs to come in. Traps need some attention. Greens were firm and moderate speed. I'll be back.
The tale of two nines
Front nine was very basic and nothing special. It's the kind of course you can find anywhere. Very flat and good to walk. The back nine was completely different. A lot of up and down but very creative lay out. Also has great views of Asheville surrounding mountains. Back nine was much more challenging and requires thought when choosing proper club. Would like to play course again
Nice course
Great course for the money! Nice flat front 9 with tight hilly back 9. Use every club in your bag. Staff very friendly minus a few starters
Yawn, oh wait!
Front 9 flat and uninteresting. Back 9 is a different course, narrow and hilly. Greens are hard and fast and will only hold steep shots.
Getting in better shape
The course conditions are improving. Still some parts of fairways and around greens that need to grow in, and some sand traps need attention. But it's better than the last time I played here.
Someone needs to get the city to remove a lot of trees to improve the layout and fairways, and to repair the HOLE in the 11th fairway.
Greens were running true, but were somewhat slow (8-10?)
An enjoyable round.
challenging mix of layouts, decent condition
The front nine and back nine are completely different, which is really cool. I loved the different challenges. Even a couple of the shorter par 4’s were difficult because of the terrain. This is a very popular golf course; it was appropriately busy and lively on two weekend days we visited.
Conditions: fairways and greens in good shape, some tee boxes were in need of attention.
We really enjoyed our round. Staff was friendly.
Wait til next year
Lots of grass plugs around greens and t boxes. If it grows in, the course will look much nicer. Lots of rough spots and crabgrass all over. Greens are still recovering from aeration and some sporadic damage
Nonetheless, the front 9 is flat and easy, but the back 9 is the real challenge
No Marshall on the course and we were stuck behind a very slow 4some
Thanks for playing and taking the time to review. Unfortunately this time of year is the time for most golf courses to overseed and maintain their greens. The overseeding and greens aerations are healing great and filling in nicely. We hope you will visit us again soon.
Sand needs attention
Grass is growing in some.
Good job of airation.
Sand traps need major attention for those of us who seem to find them.
What happened to your grass?
This is my "home" course - probably play here a dozen times a year. Greens were good - firm, rolled even a little on the fast side. As usual they are littered with ball marks. I was fixing one or two in my line on just about every putt. Maybe just a simple reminder to players at check in to fix their marks will help?
Not sure what happened to the grass on the tee boxes and parts of fairways, but lots of dead stuff. This isn't normal, and it appears that they are working to grow in some new stuff. The weather hasn't been abnormally hot or dry. They've been working on improving some of the bunkers, which is nice. Good sand consistency.
Hard to beat the price ($27 on the weekend including cart). The course gets a lot of play and it shows. I'd be willing to pay $10 more if it meant better grass conditions on the tees and fairways.

Mr. Newton,
I am sorry about your delay on Sunday. It was a pleasant afternoon and we did have a busy tee sheet. It did appear that you checked in a few minutes late for your tee time. When a group is late, we try our best to work them into the flow as quickly as possible and sometimes with a busy tee sheet, there may be a delay getting you to the tee. Please accept my apologies for the delay and since you did not finish your round, I will reach out to you so we can make it right for you and your group. Thanks for you support and we hope you can make it back soon.
