Asheville Municipal Golf Course

I enjoy this course. It has 2 different personalities; one for each side. You cannot always hit driver and it allows "links style" shot making on most holes. Pin placement can make the difficulty easy or not, as can the speed of the greens. Saturday, the greens were fairly slow. Traps need some attention, as do many of the tee boxes. Still some fairways that need grass. A good course for seniors, with a walkable front side. We'll be back.

The staff was friendly and helpful. Tee time was within minutes of original time. The fairways were in good shape. The putting greens were a little rough but still play well. I would play here again. It was inexpensive and convenient.

This is a municipal course that gets a lot of traffic. The greens reflect the Donald Ross design, but suffer from lack of clientele attention to their pitch marks. The rest of the course needs some attention: fairways are somewhat splotchy, rough is inconsistent, and the tee boxes are relatively bare. The staff is courteous and the starter friendly. If you have no where else to go this is ok. It's not a bad experience; it's just not good.

The back nine it's a different world from the front nine. Very fun course to play while challenging the golfer. The back nine requires you to have a different mindset than the front nine. I will definitely play this course again!.

The condition of the course, especially the back nine, was awful. Unbelievably awful....like, I paid money to play here? awful! We got discounts on line but still....not worth it. Go elsewhere!

Can't believe I've not played this course before. It is a nice course for the money. Front and back are like playing two different courses. Enjoyed it.

I love playing the front nine, fairly flat and usually is in great shape. Back nine looked better last week than it has lately. Fairways and tee boxes have been fair at best but are improving. Overall this is a good course with a good price! Most of the geeens are in great shape!

Fantastic Golf Course for beginners and lifers. The front 9 sits low and flat and allows you to get risky and take some bold shots with little penalty- while the back 9 challenges you with drastic elevation change and blind holes.

Also booking through GolfNow and playing 18 for $10 is a steal!

Needs someone who understands WNC temps, weather and grasses. Mgt let winter rye stand too long before burning it off. Now bermuda doesn't have enough summer left to grow in. Get some.local expertise. If other local courses can manage to keep grass so can Muni.

Hands down... one of the most improved golf courses in the area!!!!

Don't think I've ever seen a course deteriorate from really good to pitiful in 3 weeks like this one . Back nine especially, Many tees are mud, or hardpan, with crabgrass. #10 fairway is all mud and crab, with a marsh in the middle. Crabgrass spreading to the greens. Less than a month ago Muni was better than it has been in years.

As stated in other reviews, two distinctly different 9's. The Donald Ross front 9 is old school design and very straight forward. Having the opportunity to play this 9 is worth the price of admission alone. The back 9 has a couple of "different" type holes (10 & 11). It is very hilly. Also there are a couple of holes where you must be aware of oncoming traffic before you hit your tee shot. But all in all not a bad layout. The course conditions were fine. The greens rolled true and the fairways were a little sparse, but okay. The staff was very nice. If you are looking to experience a bit of golf history, I do recommend this course. For the price, you really can't go wrong.

Only had time for 9 holes played with a couple of local guys that were killing the ball. I had a good time enjoyed the course. Nice layout wish I could have played the back. I heard from the two gents the back nine is a completely different course. Will go back and finish the course.

Owners are working hard to continue improvements.The difference in layout between front and back nine make for 2 distinct courses. We will certainly play I again and again.

The front nine was flat and easy to play (39). The back nine was very hilly and difficult (43). The condition was excellent for a course owned by the city. The staff was very friendly and helpful. This course also lets walkers out, not sure about walkers on the hilly back nine. I would not want to walk the back nine. The Asheville area is beautiful place to play golf.
