5 star course..
Had a hole in one on # 15 199 yards par 3 14 fellow golfer got to witness and cheer me on.. yes... happy day!
People friendly, carts fine, course well cared for, enjoyable all around
Really good golf
A Donald Ross links course that is 2 courses in one. Wide open and flat front side. Hills dog legs and trouble on the back nine. Great fun.
Donald Ross, an undeniable fair test!
Visiting Asheville N.C. I was looking for a good test of golf. Since I've never played this area my google search turned up this rare "world class designed course" by Donald Ross. He presents a challenge by laying out a series of 18 characters in his stage-play. While not overly difficult, hitting correct shots is all it ever takes to make the game simple. Good conditions, friendly staff, and reasonable rates make me want to play it a couple more times before leaving the area. (Standing Ovation, and applause)
Very enjoyable course to play
I played this course several time over the years and must say that course conditions have improved greatly! Great job to the golf course maintenance folks. Keep up the good work! This course is definitely one of the most improved and enjoyable in the area.
We are glad you enjoyed your round here. Thanks for your comments and I will make sure our superintendent and his staff gets your review. We hope to see you back soon!
Limited Internet tee-times
Both the Asheville course website and GolfNow have many times available on-line...but only for 2-4 players. When I have nobody to play with that day, I can't take advantage of the low $ offers. Why not let me book a tee time and then other 2 -3 people groups can fill the time slot?? Especially during the week.
Two Different Nines
Course in good shape for this time of year. Course was full but pace was good three hour round. Fairly easy layout. Back does is tighter than the front.Just a heads up they will be punching the Greens on February 27 & 28 .
Great value for the money
I play muni a few times a month and always enjoy it. The front nine is flat and wide open while the back nine is much tighter with elevated topography. I enjoy the challenge and difference between the two. Fairways and greens are finally starting to grow in nicely. The one negative to this course is the pace of play. There is rarely a starter in place which can cause the course to get pretty jammed up sometimes resulting in 2.5 - 3 hours for just the front nine.
Who is taking care of this course?
This was the worst course I have ever played on. Even though it was in February the conditions were terrible.
Tee boxes that need to be cleaned. Piles of leaves in the fairways. Dry ground that resulted in lost balls.
The pace of play was slow given the nature of the short par 4s and the mix of walkers and riders.
I would only suggest that beginners play this course.
I would also recommend that community members put some heat on the city to spend some money and make this course more attractive.
Great day of golf!
Very enjoyable return visit/experience once again at this course. Great improvements have been made on the course so keep up the good work!! My friends and I are looking forward to playing here again!
Asheville Municipal
Course in good condition especially for January! Front nine like usual was in better shape than the back! 13 and 16 greens were in bad shape but over all well worth the money!
MAYBE ???????????
Saw them spreading seed on tees on 12/28/2016, a date known for sowing ! Maybe had something to do with the moon? This is the same bunch that bought sand with visible 1-1.5 (and bigger) rocks in it. The 3 other guys in my group are long time members, and 2 said they would not renew membership. None of the tees are good, esp. the red and gold. Often these are just placed in unlevel, muddy spots in the "fairway." # 10 and 11 have swampy areas in the landing zone, with an added sinkhole on 11. This has been the norm for over a year, during a bad drought. #14 is almost unplayable. Hit up the middle, the ball ends up in left woods because of no grass. Pats of 11, 13, and 16 (esp.) greens are devoid of grass. The list goes on. With the recent snow and warmth coming, I hope the seed pops up !! GOOD LUCK !!
Tee times
Overall the course is fun to play. After playing the front with very little challenge the back becomes elevated. It's fun to experience the night and day difference between the 9's. What every potential booker should be advised about is the lack of scheduling. This is truly a rack and stack outfit. They don't turn anyone away. We had a 1 o'clock tee time and had to wait nearly 30 minutes to tee off. I live close and played it several times and found this to be common. Just be advised that if you don't have 5 hours to play book at non peak times.
Comments made me laugh
Comments from mgmt. made me laugh. There is no "striving" to improve course. Many , many tees, and some greens, lack grass. Seed laying there, unwatered, never to sprout. Back nine deplorable, with issues on almost every hole. About the only "improvements" are gravel cart paths on 16 and 18 that can channel your ball out of bounds. My next letter will be to City of Asheville Parks and Rec.
Great value
This was a last minute decision, once the weather cleared out. Great price
Course needs work
The course is in its annual decline...needs help and city needs to cut so tre s back where greens can get some sunlight
Thank you for your feedback. We are always looking to improve course conditions and take your comments very seriously. Look forward to having you back soon.
Not liking how things are going here
We don't live in Asheville but visit a couple of times a year for past 8 years. We have always played this course and enjoyed it immensely until yesterday. We waited on every hole to tee off and many times to get on the green. The course itself was in bad shape. Most of the tee boxes for the red tees were sand with some grass. Even the fairways grass was sparse in many places and hitting off sand/dirt. I expect that when I hit outside the fairways, but not when I hit it straight! We gave up on the 14th hole and left early after playing for 3.5 hrs. We figured early afternoon would be a good time, but we were wrong. We'll be trying a different course on our next visit to Asheville. I was happy I booked a cheaper round on golf now instead of paying full price.
Thank you for your feedback and we apologize for your poor experience. We assure you this is not the standard we strive to achieve and will address it at the course. Look forward to having you back soon and making up for this experience.
We hope you enjoyed your trip to Asheville and we appreciate you giving The Asheville Golf Course a try. Thanks for your feedback and we hope you can make it back soon.
