Asheville Municipal Golf Course

Exorbitant green fees and snack bar prices. Practice green mowed, but not course greens on a busy, beautiful day. 5 hours to play. Don't need tee time, just show up and they'll overcrowd the place. No ranger, some groups 2 holes behind. Fairways and some greens hard as a rock. Very inconsistent softness of greens -- some firmer than others. Going to Broadmoor from now on if things don't change.

The muni course in Asheville suffers from a sever lack of upkeep. The greens are bumpy throughout the course, but you get used to that. The front nine is in pretty good shape for a city course, but the back 9 is horrible. I don't think I'll play there again, no matter how low the price.

The course ran out of carts and it took 3 hours to play the easy front 9 once the carts were available. The pro shop was nice enough to allow me to come back a play another 9 holes since there was no way I could play 3 holes on the back 9 before sunset. The pace was 45 minutes for 2 holes. Hole #11 had 2 groups on the tee box, a 4 some in the fairway, and a 4 some on the green. The back 9 is hilly with plenty of trees which is totally different than the front 9 which is flat and easy to walk.

Course was in good condition for the amount of moisture the area has received early on this year. Fairway and greens were nice, rough has yet to grow in as expect. The only downside is a frost delay happens almost every round. The course could probably eliminate some frustrations of golfers by paying attention to overnight weather and scheduling tee times accordingly.

Couldn't beat 70 degrees on the golf course in December, and everyone else thought the same. Absolutely packed, and with it being cart path only was the perfect storm for slow play. Took 3 hours to play 9 holes, but at $18 I'm not going to complain. Didn't play the back 9 due to it daylight and pace of play but aside from the puddles and slightly fuzzy conditions, it was a great round! Like I said, couldnt beat it for a December round in shorts!

Even though weather has not turned cold for the season, the greens were hard, short or balding weedy turf, no interaction with the ball. Everything rolled off and away without any bites or putting breaks.
No ranger control. We had 4 foursomes stalled out at the turn from the par 5 - 4th green, off the green, waiting to tee 5th, on the tee at 5th waiting while two other groups on the fairway and tee. 6 and 7th bogged down while fairway and rest of 7, 8th and 9th were open.
All this we ran into after turning the back 9 first. We left at 1:00, not playing 4 holes. Starting at 9:20 playing the back 9 went smooth until trying to blend back in on the front 9 at 11:15.

Very poor condition. Very slow. Advertised as a Donald Ross design. I can't believe it. One of the worst courses I have played in a long time.

A well maintained municipal course that is a lot of fun to play. Distinctly different nines with the front flat and open and the back hilly and tight.

The front nine is in great shape and is rather mild mannered. Once you make the turn hold on. The conditions are less than stellar. Be prepared to hit shots off of some of the worst lies you have ever had. If you can avoid trouble and big numbers you have done well.

Our party of 3 had an awesome round of golf. The scores didn't matter. It was a pleasure to play on such a well kept, beautiful golf course. Pace was a bit slow as there were a lot of walkers on the course, but that didn't matter. Fairways were wide and greens were in great condition. The staff was friendly and smiling.

excellent value for the money along with very friendly golfers

Played the course and can't believe how badly the fairway and tee box grass have deteriorated! Many tee boxes were without ANY grass and most fairways are patchy at best with many good shots resulting in bare lies. I was really disappointed--much worse than I have seen this course in the past even this year. I only rated the value as high as "average" because I got a hot deal rate for my wife and me. If I had paid the usual rate I'd be upset.

Crabgrass in the greens. Over 5 hour round. Some groups 2 holes behind, no ranger as it was a tournament. Hard pan, mud, and crabgrass. Only real grass in in rough, but mixed with plenty of crab. They are in the process of overseeding the fairways, so don't go there for weeks or you'll be sorry. Snack bar prices are very high! Fast greens with crab -- watch out!

the Course is approx 70 mile drive for me but I will play again as soon as I can! The Course will be beautiful with Seasonal leaf change and the value on GOLFNOW was really a great value. Again, the Staff made me feel welcome and appreciated. Also, since I made this reservation Mobile, the timely and accurate GOLFNOW support was spot on!

Great course easy to go low on the front more of a shot makers course on the back

Crabgrass has taken over tees,fairways, and is spreading into greens. I play here weekly and have seen no evidence of trying to improve the crab in greens. Way too late to help fairways -- wait for frost and try to overseed with rye if it's not too late in the year. Previously, on a Sunday, I was given a tee time. Had to wait 1.5 hours past that time to tee off because a tournament was shotgunned off on the back nine and were coming to the front nine! No mention of this when I called and got a time. Inexperienced young lady was in charge, a recent hire that may not know much about golf.

The front 9 is open, relatively flat, and open. The back plays up and down a ridge with narrow, tree lined fairways. The seriously downhill par 3 18th plays 20 yards longer than the actual yardage indicates.
A ranger is needed, because many groups have no sense of how slow they're playing. They see 3 4-somes fight behind them stacking up, no one in front of them, and they won't let anyone play thru or speed up their play.
Not a lot of golfing options around Asheville, so this course is always crowded. Some days it moves well and today was a death march.

Recently moved to the area and found this gem of a course . The gentleman working at the course, Ryan Zipperer was a true professional. Gave me information about the history of the course. I enjoyed my round so much. I returned the next day with three co- workers and we played again. This is a great value. Cost versus Overall Product and Service. I am excited to have a Donald Ross course at a very affordable price. Thanks Ryan for professional service and two awesome rounds of golf in two days. You need to check this hidden gem out.

fairways were great, greens were fair back 9 was very hilly and challenging but enjoyable.
