Sad return to what was a gorgeous course.
Well it was way over booked, tons of crabgrass, greens terrible, and you often feel as if you are the guy on the range picking up balls without a cart cage. I played this course four or five years ago and was a completely different course from then. With that said I am especially spoiled considering my home public course is Boone Golf Club in Boone NC. The grounds crew, club food and beverage, and course in general is top notch!
Two different courses
Front 9 was pretty flat with wide fairways. Back 9 was totally different mountains and gullies. Very challenging.
golf
Very slow play...to many people! Front 9 ez, back.. good test of your abilities. Starter should be fired..Very unfriendly! Good greens...truff test!
Great deal played fast
We were a three some and played at 7:45 AM and played fast. We were never pushed and course was in good shape. The greens could have been cut before we played. The greens rolled slow with dew on them. We had a good time and will return.
slow
If you like 5 plus hour rounds and exorbitant snack bar prices, then go here! Singles and twosomes abound, stacking up playing conditions. POORLY RUN!!

Slow play and rude staff.
Scheduled my tee time online. Arrived at course and they tried to start us off almost 45 minutes early. Course starter was very rude at first tee and made us wait for a 3rd person to play with us. Course play was very slow with nobody from the course monitoring pace of play. Took us 5 hours to play for 18 holes. Grass had not been cut but then durning our round here comes the mowers. Waited for 15 minutes for one of them to finish mowing a green. One good thing was the black bear cub that ran across the fairway in front of us. Won't be playing here again.

Two different sides
The front side is a flat and straightforward side with plenty of birdie opportunities. The back is hilly and narrow with distance control very important. The conditions are good for a municipal type golf course. Fun to play and a convenient location.
Beautiful setting. Great value.
The friendly and helpful staff made playing this beautiful course most enjoyable. The price was right.
hard as a rock
5 hr. 15 min. to play. No starter, no ranger. Backed up with singles and twosomes on a holiday! I have never seen so many good shots get penalized, nor so many bad shots rewarded from rock hard conditions. Won't be back until they turn on the new sprinklers, or lots of rain. Snack bar prices higher than high end country clubs. A tee time means little -- show up and pay and they'll get you out there. Ours was 23 minutes late.

Exceptional
The entire course is in fantastic condition and the staff is friendly and helpful.
D. Ross muni Asheville NC
Even though the front 9 had been aireted the greens rolled nicely. Fairways and tee boxes were in good shape as well. The back 9 greens were in very good shape.
This course is fairly well maintained, but busy
We were behind notorious slow players who play almost daily....as admitted by the starter. There are no marshalls.
Course in good shape
The course is in better shape than other courses I have played this spring. It looks like they have got a good jump on conditioning this year.
Donald Ross Muni course
OK, just zip through the front nine, nice and flat, nothing too interesting, but decent. The wait is worth the back nine. I have played many Donald Ross course and this back was truly representative of his style, lots of undulations, crowned greens (not as crowned as say Pinehurst). Number 10 is the first a many elevated tees, high sides running too the middle. Ball placement is more important around the greens on the back. I pared the par 5's and had bogeys on the par threes on the back.
You should be able to shoot well under your handicap.
Course is 8 minutes away from Biltmore Village.
I see some reviews complaining about slow play, but each time I have played there is has been quick. I was paired with another Golf Now user, we were done in 3 1/2 hours. PS the egg salad sandwich was delicious.
April is early Spring in Asheville, so pretty rough tees and fairways. Rough is thick.
What you'd expect from a Municipal Course
Course my was in decent shape for early spring. Fairway grass was a little long and they had just aerated & sanded the tee boxes. Greens were firm and in good shape. Two very different 9's between the front and back. Course was very busy which resulted in 5+ hr round and extended waits at every tee box, backing up 2 & 3 groups at a time.
This course has no water to contend with but lots of bunkers
Great course. Somewhat challenging and fun to play.
Asheville Muni
Played it on 2-11-15. Considering the time of year, the course was in pretty good shape.
Nice layout, friendly staff. What's not to like?
Beautiful February day!
After a brief frost delay, the regulars starting showing up in droves to enjoy the unusually warm winter day. To begin, greens were hard but became manageable within a half hour. Fairways and rough were as would be expected this time of year but very but clean and free of most debris. Drop dead gorgeous day to spent outside in the dead of winter.
great course. very forgiving on front
Course is always in great shape anytime of the year, easy, flat, wide fairways on front, but a bit more challenging on the back.
Great mountain course
Good Donald Ross design, front is pretty flat & the back nine is far from flat.
Course is in good shape & a real gem. It's not extremely long with good challenging bent grass greens.
If you have never played, I recommend you give it a try.
