Irritating golf ranger ruined the fun
We decided to play 9 holes at 5 PM this evening at Monroe CC because we really enjoyed our previous Saturday's round. Today the course let 5 walker's play together right before us. It was not a big issue until hole 3 when we decided the pace was too slow.
So rather than worrying with playing through, we decided to skip a hole and drove to the next tee (we weren't going to get in 18 holes anyway). Evidently that blew the Golf Ranger's mind. He confronted us at the 10th tee, asked for our receipt, and lectured us. As background, nearly every local Charlotte course lets you play until 7:15 or so anyways for the price of 9 holes after 5 PM this time of year. This golf ranger's attitude ticked off my buddy and I, ruined our fun, and really soured us on playing Monroe CC again.
Good Round
Enjoyed round today. Played in a 3-some and finished in 3.5 hours.
Enjoy the Day..
First time playing this course, overall the course and greens where excellent..my wife and I played with a couple of members, followed a Members event with 20 golfers..no issues, finished in four hours...
Front nine is a Donald Ross design, so expect tough greens, upside down, cupcake design similar to Pinehurst, back nine long and wide open..
I enjoy old school courses..if you enjoy golf and not the fluff..you'll like this course..
Will play agin..
Quit after 14 Holes
Terrible pace of play. Starter was lazy and took zero initiative. Ran out of golf carts. Definition of a cluster. Won’t play here again.
Great course
Monroe keeps this course in great condition. Greens hold the approach shot, roll true and are moderately quick. Fairways and roughs are well maintained. Layout is challenging.
Enjoyable Round
Had a great time today. Course was in great shape. Greens are medium/fast, but fair. If you can stay in play off the tee, you will have plenty of opportunities to score here. Might even think about becoming a member next year.
Very nice course
We enjoyed our round very much. Greens were great. Fairways great. Pace of play was slow but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The course is fun from the white tees.
After a second thought.
I am upset with this course. First off Nick the PGA guru is awesome, nothing bad at all to say about him. As for the guy who made it uncomfortable (not sure if starter or what, red cart)... I took my wife and son mid day to play nine their first time ever. Let a group go ahead on 1 since they were ready.
Unfortunately we wait on them and the 8 person Korean walking team who jumps on complained we were taking to long made the guy tell us we had to go! We couldn’t go anywhere. My son hits a ball tops it 2 feet away I throw one down and the guy tells us we’re taking to long?? We are delaying game etc?? Remind you he only hit because he couldn’t reach them as they were walking off green.
At that point I was mad and asked for a refund of my game as that guy began to follow us to next hole!
Not sure if because were new to area and not his normal crowd he was mean or if this was his typical approach to new learners. For a city course, surprises me this happens. Guess this elitist public city course is not for everyone!
By the way, why have tee times if you just let 3 on at my time and then 8 more in a group same time?? Literally 14 people have an 1100? Wow!
Sorry, last time playing this course with the numerous options available!
Best little public golf course in Charlotte area
Greens are AWESOME! Well maintained course, worth the drive from Tega Cay.
Great course
Greens in good condition, holding the approach shot, rolling true. Fairways in good condition. Sand traps in good condition.
Great coarse
Front nine is more difficult than the back but both are good nines
Great value
With the exception of the staff in the pro shop who seemed dis interested in the customer, this is an outstanding course and a great value for the price.
The course is well maintained and the greens are in great shape. I highly recommend this course
Challenging greens
Enjoyed our round at Monroe CC yesterday. We found the greens and pin placements particularly challenging, sometimes tucked in corners of the green, almost impossible to get the ball close on a chip or pitch. The course was in great condition and play moved along quickly. We finished our round in 3 hours 40 minutes.
The cost for separate carts during Covid-19 was somewhat excessive. The club has been challenged to have carts available for everyone so they have raised the cost for individuals to $18/round. So instead of sharing or paying the cost, we took turns walking with the other driving. Worked out great!
We look forward to our next round at Monroe CC.
Note: This course only offers gas carts . Ugh.
Great condition
Played a practice round today for a tournament this weekend. They had the greens flying. Course is in fantastic condition.
Please ignore this review. This is an unfortunate experience but not an accurate rating to what I have experienced and the course is not 2 stars! Feel free to rant but be accurate about the course rating.
People suck, wish those folks were nicer but that’s not the courses fault.
