Fun golf course
Good track! Fun layout and the course was in good shape. Definitely will play again.
First time, but will not the be last
First time playing Monroe CC and was very impressed. Conditions overall were very good, aside from the bunkers which didn't appear to have been groomed in some time. Classic old school design that you don't find in the Charlotte area very often. The first nine Donald Ross greens as always are challenging, especially when missed (or hit) in the wrong place. Very much look forward to returning again.
So slow
We got stuck behind 4 five-somes; apparently there was some type of member outing. Shouldn’t sell tee times to follow something like that. It was hot and the pace of play was awful; I would like to go back and try the course again, but not for awhile. It was one of the most miserable rounds I’ve had in a long time.
However, the greens were in great shape and the course was well kept overall.
Worth the Drive
If you are willing to drive 45 mins outside the city, then Monroe CC is a must. Classic Donald Ross design on the front with turtle-backed greens and then a completely different back 9 that is much longer and more open. Some of the tee boxes are a little bare but the greens are in excellent shape because the pro Nick always wants the course "tournament ready".
Great Value!
Condition of greens are usually perfect, they were aerated and verticut recently. Should be back to 100% within a week. No complaints as it was mentioned on Golfnow before purchase.
Course was in great shape. Greens were great. They have done a great job maintaining this course considering the recent heat and lack of rain. I have played other courses in the area that have lost their greens.
Good day on the links
Overall very good experience; course was in good shape and place of play was better than expected. My only concern was the congestion of tee boxes and greens on the first four holes.
Monroe County Club - the real hidden gem in Union County
Donald Ross will test you on the front nine, watch out for the turtle back greens and good speed on the greens as well. The back nine while not as acclaimed as the front will test you on long par 3’s and a monster 18th par 5. Have fun as I always do.
Great Course
Great course in great condition. Price is right and pace of play was great for a Sunday morning.
Open honest review
I would first like to say that everything about this course was great including the staff, pace of play, and value for the money.
However, multiple times during the round I noticed the golf carts are gas powered, and someone who struggles like myself with PTSD sounds eerily similar to a gunshot. This is the only thing I ask that you change with your course because had someone been with me and seen the way I reacted every time I heard the backfire from the golf carts it would’ve been quite embarrassing .
I just wanted to give you an honest review, as I’m not sure many golfers would let you know this and the serious dangers that it can impose.
Again everything was five stars except my overall rating I just ask that you please invest into your golf carts and make them electric or to where they do not backfire as someone who struggles with PTSD, golfing is one of our ways of leisure and enjoyment in the world .
Great track
We visited Asheville for a few days and stopped at Monroe CC on our way back to Pinehurst where we live. We stopped at Monroe after reading different reviews of courses that were on our route back to Pinehurst and were pleasantly surprised to play a course that we both enjoyed. Both nines couldn’t have been more different, but were equally in great shape. Only negative was the snack bar which didn’t have food at the time we were going on the course late morning, but we didn’t mind at all after all the good at this venue. If Monroe wasn’t 1 1/2 hours from our home, I would be a regular there.
Disappointed
Booked through Golfnow for a "HotDeal" as the last single of a foursome at 9 AM. I arrived at 8:40 and for some reason the started sends me out with a group after 9 AM and send me out with a twosome who are only playing 9 holes. What is that about?? I drove 45 minutes one way to play there. The started was like wait here, i will get you with somebody.. As I watch the other 3 from Golfnow 9 am tee time tee off. I ended up leaving after 9 because play was slow and I would have been alone stuck waiting 10+ minutes between shots. The course is nice but there is no point if it is not operated correctly.
As advertised
I have read most of the reviews and have wanted to play here for a while. The course is a nice player friendly course with some very challenging greens. The back nine has an extremely pleasant layout in a definative parkland style.
Disappointing
I was greatly disappointed in this course. During booking it said aeration in process. I understand that needs to be done from time to time to have a quality course conditions. But they closed the back nine. Had to play front twice. Was cart path only and staff said due to rain. Course was very dry. They sent out four singles in a row which made play very slow. For a country club they didn’t even have logo balls. I drove for an hour to play this course. Was not worth it.
Excellent value, a fine course
The greens rolled true and smooth. The par 3s had some challenge. The overall course was short yet demanding due to the size of the greens on the front. Number 3 particularly was impressive for only 335 yards. I’d play here often to fine tune my wedge game and par 3 strategy. I’ll be back.
Donald
It’s hard to hit the greens in regulation but that’s part of the fun. Tight course it in the fairway and you’ll score
