As advertised
I have read most of the reviews and have wanted to play here for a while. The course is a nice player friendly course with some very challenging greens. The back nine has an extremely pleasant layout in a definative parkland style.
Disappointing
I was greatly disappointed in this course. During booking it said aeration in process. I understand that needs to be done from time to time to have a quality course conditions. But they closed the back nine. Had to play front twice. Was cart path only and staff said due to rain. Course was very dry. They sent out four singles in a row which made play very slow. For a country club they didn’t even have logo balls. I drove for an hour to play this course. Was not worth it.
Excellent value, a fine course
The greens rolled true and smooth. The par 3s had some challenge. The overall course was short yet demanding due to the size of the greens on the front. Number 3 particularly was impressive for only 335 yards. I’d play here often to fine tune my wedge game and par 3 strategy. I’ll be back.
Donald
It’s hard to hit the greens in regulation but that’s part of the fun. Tight course it in the fairway and you’ll score
Great Course
Great Course but hate the 40 min drive. It was 1 hour to get home Monday around 2:30 p
Had a great day on the course!
High school players
When I pulled into the parking lot, it was empty. I was greeted by the ranger who told me a high school team would be there at 3:30, (our tee time was 3:40), so he told us to start on #10. We did and we played the back 9 in 1 hour and 10 mins. When we rounded the turn. We played the first 2 holes perfectly fine, but as soon as we hit hole 3, we looked over the fairway and saw 10 high school kids hacking away at their shots. We ended up having to skip 2 holes to avoid them. Avoid the course during the hours of 3:30-6. There was very poor planning starting us on 10, and then have us run into the kids on hole 3. The shop was closed at 6:30 when we got back. So I couldn't use the facilities; this was sad, cause I had to go...overall, the greens were silky smooth and fast, but the customer service sucked
First Time But NOT The Last
I really liked this course!
I was shocked how nice the condition was considering how bad every other course is this time of year.
Half the price of Ballantyne yet twice as nice.
I tip my cap to the groundskeeper.
I did not get to play all 18 however due to some private morning outing followed by afternoon school kids playing.
They should not sell tee times in between events like that.
I was impressed with on-course restroom and many MANY water stations.
Other golf courses should learn a lesson from Monroe!
Jackson > Ross
The back nine is way better in my opinion. The front nine's layout is fairly pedestrian with challenging Donald Ross greens. The Tom Jackson-designed back nine is far more enjoyable and holes are much more unique. If I could play the back nine twice, it would be a much better experience.
Best Greens around
Monroe is a fine golf course. We play there a good bit and always satisfied. Great value, great greens and a great Donald Ross layout. Highly recommend!
We will be back!
We imagine that this course must be stunningly beautiful when everything is green - given the lake, elevated tees and trees. Even in March it was in great condition! It pitted true . We very much enjoyed our round. We got an awesome deal through Holf Now.
Great course
Donald ross front, Jackson back, 2 courses in one. If the wind gets to blowing lookout. Greens are the staple of the front layout and scenery of the back. Grab your clubs, make your wagers and go enjoy this gem. I can't wait to play during the summer. Might bring some steaks for the nice little picnic area to grill.
Front 9 is special
Both sides are really nice and green are good as well. Can t wait to return for summer. Front is Donald Ross and it is a completely different monster 800 yards shorter but harder for sure!
One of my regular courses
Pace this round was slower than typical due to a young child playing ahead of me.
Best greens in the area especially for winter play.
Great greens, hidden gem
I've been meaning to place this course for a few years but was always a little hesitant because it was in Monroe. My mistake! This course has the best greens (front 9) in Charlotte and it was fun playing a Jones and Jackson layout on one course. The front nine (Jones) is old school traditional with shorter holes, small fast greens with deadly pin placements. While the back nine (Jackson) feels like a completely different course playing 300-400 yards longer, big greens and new school layout. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely will be back!
