Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2024 #13)
Reviews
Nice shape but too expensive
This course was in better shape than most other public courses that I’ve recently played. Greens were in excellent shape and tee boxes were better than average. I just thought it was a bit pricey. Probably would return
Not worth it
I’ll start with the one positive which is the course layout. Fair but challenging at times and I enjoyed the overall layout. Unfortunately that’s the only positive thing I can say about this course. In reading the CCJC rules they state no denim allowed and they average a 3 1/2 hrs a round. I saw more people in denim on this course than I have in all the other rounds I’ve played combined. I don’t necessarily mind this other than the round is ~$65 and I’d expect a bit more enforcement of their own rules. In addition the pace of play was painful, 18 holes in just over 4.5hrs. We were staying close to the group in front of us as they were waiting for a group ahead of them as well. For the price , I’d expect a ranger to help keep the pace of play to the standard 4 hrs as I don’t think 3.5 hrs, especially on a Saturday is realistic. The course shape was just ok, lots of damage in fairways though the majority of the greens were in good shape and rolled true.
Overall I feel like the shape of the course and the pace of play doesn’t align with the overall cost per round. There are better courses for the money in the area and I would recommend them over this CCJC.
Cronyism
Definitely caters to the members. We were a twosome and had 3 fivesomes in front of us. Had a non-players driving a personal golf cart, visiting friends with a newborn child and a dog. Practice area was nonexistent.
We are sorry to hear about your experience at the CCJC. Even though we are open to the public, our members will always be considered first and this will be true with any semi-private facility that you play. Taking this into consideration, and as long as they are not holding up play or disturbing others, we have no issues with members using their own carts to watch their friends, and fellow members, play. As far as there not being any practice facilities, we do have a practice putting green and driving range. The putting green is currently in the process of being replaced, but it was still available for use on the day you played.
Well kept, low amenities
Course is very well maintained. Not terribly challenging. Pace of play was the fastest on an 18 hole course Ive ever experienced.
Fun course
First time playing this course. Fun course for those like me that don’t hit the ball far. Pace of play was great until the group ahead of us and us ended up behind a group of SIX. Slowed play down so much. Otherwise, it was a good course.
7 handicap review
I play at a huge variety of courses several times a week. This course has to be played a few times to know where to hit your tee shot. It is tight is you cannot move the ball both ways. Conditions are average, greens were medium fast today with pins mostly on side slopes. I'm usually less than 30 putts per round but had 7 three putts today. Lots of overhanging branches. I hit many good shots that were caught by the only branch that could get it. Ball has to be in the right spot off the tee to have a clear shot to the green. Does not allow for many loose shots. All in all, I would not choose a steady diet of this course.
Real good, Except
Very nice course , but the cart paths are horrendous in places and need immediate repair

Course: decent | Cost: too high | Amenities: low to very low | Pace of play: normal
Club owner, playing in the threesome behind us sent the ranger to tell us we were holding them up. The ranger reluctantly delivered the message, almost as though he were forced. If the owner wasn’t looking for his balls in the woods all day, he would have noticed we were playing right behind the group in front of us.
It’s unfortunate to hear about you experience at our club. We just had an extreme wind storm that came through the night before you played. This storm had damaging winds which caused trees/limbs to fall down along with debris all over the course. We are in the process of getting the course cleaned up and back to the shape it was in.
JCCC Great Course
Pace of play was great. Course was in good shape. Great value for the price.
We are sorry to hear about your experience at the CCJC. We are trying our best to make sure that everyone has the proper attire on, and we will do a better job of ensuring that in the future. The typical round of golf is between 3 and a half to 4 hours, but it was an extraordinary day and the facility was packed with players. With this being said, we feel that 4 and half hours is a reasonable pace, considering the circumstances. We do have a ranger, and he does his best to maintain an acceptable pace of play, but there’s only so much that can be done with the number of players we had on the course that day. Considering it was the middle of April when you played, the course hasn’t had adequate time to completely grow out, but the course conditions will continue to improve, as the weather gets warmer.
