Old time course
Yeah the course was very nice for an old timey type course with a lot of tree line doglegs only thing that was a little disappointing was the greens were very shaggy and you had to kill the ball to putt them
Great value and a nice round!
I enjoyed my round at CC of Johnston County. The course isn't terribly long and the layout is fairly open, but there are a few opportunities that make you think about your shot selection. The course was in good shape, the greens rolled true, and the staff was extremely accommodating. I'll definitely be back.
Well worth playing!
Course was in great shape, staff was super friendly and the greens were fast but rolled true. Second time for us and we're already planning the 3rd.
Green is very nice.
Fairway is not bad, but green is very nice. In addition, green fee is not expensive. I made reservation hot deal.
Not Half Bad
Got a decent deal through Golf Now for a favorable tee time. It's a hike from Raleigh, about 50 minutes, and it's tucked back among some really nice houses. Clubhouse is large, but the pro shop is not. Range is less than mediocre; not really well-taken care of and range balls desperately need replacing. The course itself has a few blind shots, but overall isn't that difficult. There are some long holes and most of the par 5s are reachable. The greens were in ok shape, but they have potential to be very good once the grass comes in and the super can cut and roll them. Even with rough areas, they rolled relatively well and were quick-ish (probably 8.5-9 on the Stimpmeter). They held shots pretty well (a 3i into the wind on a long par 3 didn't even move) and well-struck wedge shots will check and spin. It would be helpful to have measurements to the end of the fairway on some of the sharper dog legs. Once the weather gets nicer and the course gets greener, might come back to give it another shot. If you don't mind the long drive, give this track a go. If you'd rather stay closer to Raleigh, you're not missing anything spectacular.
Course was in good condition enjoyed playing the course will come again and suggest to others
Not a bad course
Decent course but beware of the members. They are about the most unfriendliest people you want to come across. The word that best describes them starts with the letter d and ends in a.
Fast greens!
I like this course. I play it about once a month. We have had little rain lately so I guess thars why the greens are so fast. Usually not the case. The only issue were all the leaves. I know they can't do much about that this time of year. Its stinks losing a golf ball in the middle of the fairway. Very fun course to play. Bring your long iron when you play. There are a few doglegs where a l.p. g iron will come in handy.
Well worth the trip
Had a great round yesterday with 3 friends.
Course was in great shape. Lots of changes in elevation.
Greens, fairways and tee boxes were better than many Wake Cty courses with much higher green fees.
There are several holes with doglegs. I recommend you study the scoecard and and if possible get a view of the green before hitting second shot.
There were several long Par 4's and challenging Par 3's.
Staff in the pro shop was very friendly.
Will definitely go back to play again.
Even though it is a 40 minute drive from Raleigh you do not have to wait each hole like you do at many Wake Cty courses.
Great Course for the $
Great course, friendly staff, not crowded. Love the place. Will definitely go back again and again..
first time playing
played mainly because of the special rate. used to playing flat courses, elevation change was good.
well kept course, didn't particularly like the blind
shots. will play again, maybe in cooler weather. hard
to guage things on first trip. great value with discount I got from golfnow. will definitely play again.
Great layout
Course is great shape. Will play this course again.
Decent course - Just didn't suit me
The cart paths were in rough shape in many spots. The greens were mostly ok although some were a little rough. The reason for the average rating is that there are a ton of blind shots. If I know I'm not going to see the ball land I'm just not going to make a good swing. Also there were far too many short dogleg holes for my taste. Driver was too long and I don't have a good 200 yd club. I might return but there are other courses in the area with nicer layouts from my point of view.
Great layout, friendly staff and patrons
Can't say enough about this course - only wish it were 15 minutes closer to Raleigh so I could go more often. Well-thought-out layout with lots of holes where driver may not be the right club off the tee - fun to have to think your way through a hole rather than just swing away. Not especially long but the par 3's are beasts - 2 were over 200 yards from the back tees on a course where the tips are barely 6000 yards. Pretty tight fairways but not especially penalizing to miss them. Greens were freshly punched and sanded when I played so putting was hit-or-miss, but I can see they'd be very challenging when rolling true. Overall a great day, and I can't wait to go back.
don't need driver all the time
Parking lot very small, but the view of the lake from the club house was very relaxing. Would have liked to know that the greens had been treated ahead of time. I don't like paying to putt on sand. Course is set up to were it is challenging to the A players But playable enough for the average golfer. I would play there again
Hidden Gem
1936 Ellis maples design( he worked with Donald Ross) the course is a very well
Layed out course lot of
Dog legs and the greens will drive you crazy. You have to hit it straight. The rough is not forgiving. I play here frecuently and never get bored with it.
great course
We got off the #1 tee box right at our tee time, pace of play was great, I took my son to play for his birthday and he had a great time. We had one single go through around hole 12, other than that the pace was fantastic. Course is in pretty good shape for this time of year. Greens rolled really good and the fairways were lush!!!!!
