Jones at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center
About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

New course
Fun course playing with a couple good guys
Course was in good shape for all the rain and the only bad thing was it was cart path only for the whole course
Stay away
This course while beautifully maintained and aesthetically pleasing has many flaws.
There is no yardage on the course or GPS on the carts to help you determine distances to the holes. Both my plane partner and I became frustrated, especially because it was cartpath only. They just mowed and grass clippings everywhere which impacted balls and also was just messy. Staff was dismissive and not very pleasant to deal with from the checkout guy to the starter to the guy checking me in. All seemed as if I was a bother to them. The tea boxes were not always level and it was difficult at times to find a place to keep the ball level with my feet.
Finally, if you’re going out as the first teetime and play quickly, Do not think you’re going to be done in three hours. They stagger back nine teetimes as well to pack the course as much as possible and I had to wait 30 minutes between my front nine in my back.
Overall, very disappointing course management, it is a nice looking course
Nice course layout. Fairways are wide, good condition. Greens had some bare spots, particularly around periphery, but seemed fine within 25 feet of hole. Sand traps were hard, not raked, really not much sand. One of the biggest problems is that there is NO water to drink on the course. No coolers, no fountains. And it was HOT AF that day. We saw the beverage cart twice, on number 3 and on number 16. The bathrooms are locked. No one told us the code was printed on flag position card. Nor were we told of no water on course. Thankfully we had a cooler. We had a good time, but I think there are other courses in the area which a much better value.
Sea trail jones course
Great experience playing yesterday,
course fairways and tee boxes are in great condition, some greens need work
Greens were aerated.
The greens were aerated the day prior to playing. They did notify us prior to booking the tee time.,
The clubs we rented were top notch.
They had the wrong scorecard on the cart.
Poor Green
Overall experience was meh. Wild life and layout was great, but that’s where the good ended. Every green has an area that is under repair and the fairways were scalped. Not worth the $75 per person that we paid. There are cheaper courses in the area in significantly better condition.
Jones course sea trail
The greens were all in bad shape, fairways and tee boxes were good.
Hope that the greens are addressed since putting on them was difficult.
nice scenery
greens in very poor shape. great scenery, decent layout.
First time at Jones!
Freindly staff greeted us, course was not crowded for afternoon play, a plus! Tee Boxes and Fairways were good, greens were bumpy and still filling in with grass (it's spring) Understand from talking to a guy in the parking lit that Byrd has new greens and he raved about them! Loved the layout, houses/condos along course but not too close... Will be back!!!
Nice layout needs work
I enjoyed the layout of the course. I usually play white but chose gold for this round being my first time here. On 2 or three holes the golds were 60 and 90 yards ahead of the whites leaving only 335 or so to the green. I do plan on returning once the course had been renovated. It would be nice to have a white/gold hybrid tee option or a tee box on a few hole moved back toward the whites. Greens on the back were awful. Greens on the front were pretty good. All in all, with the impending renovation, I will be back once it has been completed.
Great layout, but course was very wet due to major storm the day before (not their fault), but greens were not in good shape due to Winter…greens need another month to grow-in, but Fairways were in good shape for early Spring golf. A definite course to play starting April.
