Jones at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center
About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

Greens in disrepair
Have the greens had serious damage. Too hard. Won’t hold a high wedge. If I didn’t have a discount from golf now, I would’ve asked for a refund!
K&W
The cafeteria has a tournament out there every morning +65yrs and over = 5-6hr gameplay. Also they have ALIGATORS on the course! Yeah a 5 foot gator on hole 10 the Jones course right by the green. I couldn’t even putt he was 25 feet away!!!!!
Going to be Great
When we played the couree see Xmas under major construction. I really think when the project is complete , it will be beautiful. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the pro shop was nice.
Nice course in Terrible shape
My wife and I Like this course and usually play it when we are here on vacation.
we decided to try it this year despite te poor recent reviews and unfortunately found themto be true. The good news was that the fairways are in decent shape, but the tee boxes and in bad shape with lots if crabgrass. The greens are worse as almost all of them showed significant patches of disease. I kow they are refurbishing the Byrd course and it may be good when they reopen, but this course needs lots of help.
Beautiful
Beautiful layout, beautiful scenery….. greens, some very ruff an tee boxes need some level work. Just sayin.
Disappointed
Understanding the facility as under renovation, the bag guys were not overly helpful. They appeared confused as to organization and direction of set up before play. No practice range or practice green. Understanding it rained a lot the night before play, the course was a little wet. But the greens were terrible. A player in our group lived on property. He said they're getting ready to close the course to redo greens and traps, it should have already been closed. Charging a "green fee" for no greens is absurd. Putting on dead grass is embarrassing. Deters me from wanting to ever try it again.
Terrible. Lady in prison was rude. 40. $. With trail card bought 16 people was very disappointed. We r local. Never go back.
Place was terrible lady prison was rude. Bought 16 people with me. Very disappointed
Unmarked
I would only recommend this course if they would upgrade the yardage markers. The day I played was cart path only, which was fine because of the rain the day before. Problem was, there are no yardage markers in the fairways, because of that we had to take several clubs to our ball. If you got to your ball and had the wrong club you either used what you had or walked back to the cart. They need a 200, 150 and 100 yard pole in the fairway, the cart paths weren't even marked. Will never go back unless this is corrected.
Good course for the Price
Great staff, nice layout and very good condition.
Good bang for the buck, fairways in great shape, greens rolled well.
Don’t spend a dîme for this course
The positive point of the day
The staff very friendly .
For the rest, TEE to green, thé fairway, the rough and the sand trap and the tee off was purely bad grass
This golf course Is an abandoned land
Overshadowed and in transition
Wonderful layout. Most tees and fairways had healthy grass near the middle. Greens were bumpy, damp and fast, like putting on a Plinko board. Seems that the development budget has overshadowed the course budget. For example, driving range taken over by new home lots, no practice putting green, no water containers anywhere on the course, makeshift pro shop in beautiful new convention center, and inconsistent maintenance around edges of greens and bunkers. Cart and starter staff were adequately polite and functional. Will definitely play again when driving range reopens.
Jones course ... greens are so so..at best
The resort is Under renovation. Buioding new clubhouse, 1 of the 3 courses is under renovation, Byrd course. Jones is expected To .be next.
Thé course itself is ont in bad shape, but the greens were not in good shape. No grass, a bit of grass, 2 different kind of grass 9n the same green. It was really tough to putt with confidence on those greens.
