Jones at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center
About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

A fabulous day...
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our round of golf at Sea Trail - Jones course. Of course my wife enjoyed it even more when she had a Hole in One on the par 3 fifth hole. It was her first and was very exciting.
The course was in great shape and the greens were perfect. The friendly staff made the day even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

Nice afternoon of golf
Got very good prices from Golf Now. Close to Ocean Isle condo. Fairways greened up and we're in good condition. Pace of play was good. Greens a bit slow. We all enjoyed and would play again.
Sea Trail Jones Course
Had great time. We were twosome behind 3 foursomes so we had to wait a lot. Group in front were nice to ask if wanted to play ahead but was really no need since so many already in front. Great to play on nice grass this time of year. Greens were fantastic! Snack bar could use more efficient operation to ensure no delays getting onto back 9. Overall will definitely play course many more times.
Excellent
Some par 4 are long for a 10 handicap and strong wind. Apart from that very well balance course and fair. I really enjoyed the course.
Nice Course
First time at this course. Course was wet, cart path only on several holes. Nice condition and good pace of play even without a ranger. Nice variety of holes, would play again. Also got to see some very large gators basking in the sun on a warm January day.
(Seems like many courses in the area have done away with rangers and rarely enforce any type of pace of play in an effort to avoid offending anyone! But they forget that those groups following a very slow group of players are being offended by having to endure a 5 hour plus round of golf). I refuse to play courses that allow this behavior.
Sea Trail review
We golfed on a somewhat rainy and cold day.
Had the course to ourselves. Not bad shape for January.
Will go back again.
finest!
Played here a couple of years ago. Right after a weak hurricane. Cant remember the exact date The reason i write this is because i have played 74 different Myrtle beach golf courses in 27 years. Hundreds of rounds and i scored my personal best (in myrtle beach) 73 on the jones course. Par 71 even though the advertisement says par 72. perfect condition all the time, this is a real class act. of the 74 courses i have played on vacation here this is #4 on the list!!!!!
Great New Years Eve round
I have played this course multiple times and was surprised at the great course conditions. This area has received a lot of rain this year, from Hurricane Matthew to it just raining the last few weeks. Greens are in great shape for the winter. The course layout is challenging but fair. If you are in the Ocean Isle area it's a must play
Good Course
Booked this on Golfnow. Great value! The course is nice. The conditions were very good for this time of year. The fairways were excellent, the greens were good.... a little slow, but true. The Sandtraps were amply filled and came into play quite often. Layout was a challenge from the white tees. Staff was friendly... amenities were great. It's a little wet but only 5 holes were cart paths only. I would play again.
Nice layout and good condition
Arrived way early and at time of a large couples outing. Starter got me off on back nine at Rees Jones course. Fairways and greens in good shape and would consider playing again
Scenic, challenging, bargain price
This Rees Jones-designed course was at times like playing in a scenic wetlands and at other times amid some beautiful homes. That's how varied the environment was. A couple of fairways were soggy from previous rains but for the most part the course was in great shape for mid-December. We saw blue herons, egrets, cormorants and, on one hole, a large alligator thankfully sunning itself quietly to one side of the green not far from a pink golf ball that someone ahead of us apparently decided not to retrieve. All in all, a great day on a fine course at a bargain price. Would love to play the Byrd and Maples courses at Sea Trail.
Nice round!
I thoroughly enjoyed this round of golf.
Course condition was excellent... it's winter golf but the fairways, greens and tees were nicely over seeded so they were green and plush... just a bit wet from watering necessary to get the winter rye to grow. Traps were nicely groomed and paths were in good condition. The course layout was quite good but not in my top ten for the immediate area.
I signed up as a single but got paired up with another single. He was a great playing partner. We completed the round in just over three hours only having to wait on a few shots.
Great value for the cost. Definitely would play the Jones Course again.
Best Condition of the Sea Trail Courses
I've played all 3 Sea Trail courses in the last month and the Jones is in the best condition. Rye is growing in nicely, greens rolled true, fewest issues with over watering fairways. Some bare / worn areas in rough and fairways but much better than the other two courses.
Nice course
For late November the course was in OK condition. The fairways grass was a little sparse and the greens were a little bumpy and slow, but consistently so. Some teeboxes were almost bare, but the bunkers were very good - nice powdery sand. The layout is very nice - good variety on the par threes. Nice aesthetics for a course that winds through a residential area. Overall a very pleasant day!
Nice track
Arrived to Sea Trail on Thursday. Nice weather and over night lots of rain so cart path only. That's only bad thing i can say about the course. Greens were true but slow. Not a bad lie anywhere in fairways unless in water gathering areas. Tee boxes nice as well. Bodies of water on majority of holes. Only 2 real problems/concerns was the attitude of the bag handlers/starters. Some what rude and short.Other problem was range was couple hundred yards away from bag drop and had to walk to range with cart paths leading to range. Putting green was in opposite direction of bag drop and just as far away and had to walk there as well.
Sea Trail - Rees Jones Course
This is one of many must play tracks in the area for the value and mid handicap golfers. Very generous fairways, lots of water, 11 of 18 holes, but half of the water hazards do not really come into play. Great condition, pride shows in grounds crew and Supt, drains very well, a handful of greens and tee boxes are rough, but are coming along nicely. Quite a few very challenging and scenic holes, straight forward layout off the white tees that seems to play less than 6,350 yards. Tough par 3s. Had a great day, couldn't say enough about the entire staff as they made the visit a "can't wait to come back again" feel. 5+ rating there! Gators galore.
Thank you for the kind review! We are very happy to hear that you have had a great day with us. Please do come back again!! As our staff already implied, we would love to have you back!
