About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

First time playing
Great layout. Greens were a little bumpy. Looked like they were over seeded with top dressing not long ago Fairways were firm and seemed to be almost like hard pan at times.

Everything from the tee box to the pin was in great shape! It was very busy, but the pace of play was not so slow you couldn't keep moving.
The person who checked us in could use a "pleasant pill" but other than that, a great day of golf. We will be back.

December round
Course layout is straight forward and greens are boring and consistent. Course condition is fair for this time of years. Course was over seeded tee boxes and fairways. Greens are Bermuda that is healthy but not super consistent. Sand traps were hard packed wet sand that hasn’t been raked in decades - no issue, just lift clean rake and place. For the price and time of year I’d do it again. One thing to note is that they double tee sometimes, so we finished the front in an hour and a half and had to wait forty minutes to tee off the back. The back was stop and go 2 hr round. Still finished in four hours.

Even more fun the second time this week.
This is a straight-forward course with few gimmick holes. Because of rain the previous day, it was cart-path-only - but our two-some still finished in under 4 hours. Overall condition of the course was very good. Given the rain this week,, the traps were wet and hard, but we managed to get out in one shot on the several we landed in. Reviews in October complained about the greens because of reseeding - by late November when we played two rounds, they are well on the way to being excellent, playing a bit slow but true. Cart paths are in good condition.

A solid, straight-forward golf course
We had a very good time playing from the forward tees. There was some rain during the first four holes, but we were able to pass a slower group and then it was wide open, and the rain stopped. There is water on or near many holes, but it wasn’t in play too much from the forward tee. The traps were quite wet (no criticism, given the weather this week) but we managed to stay away from nearly all. Most holes offer wide open tee shots and there are few blind shots. It was a very pleasant round. We would like to see the sun one day while we are here at Sunset Beach.

Nice corse let down by poor facilities
Very pretty course but the club house looks like a 1950s bunker with poor access. We got sandwiches from the on course cart person who was very nice but the sandwiches were literally from a convenience store (we saw them later) and were mushy white bread ham and cheese.
The course was in decent shape for the time of year and greens rolled true.
We booked at a discount rate. Staff were very friendly but they sent out a foursome ahead of us at the 10th and pace of play went to a standstill.

Sea Trail - Jones is in great shape and is pretty
Playable, pretty, fun... And gators!
Scored well. Nice greens were of average speed compared to area courses we played, and a tiny bit faster .
