About
The Rees Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation is one of three courses on the property, which covers 2,000 acres of creeks and wooded lots.
It's in Sunset Beach, N.C., once named the top coastal destination in the U.S. by Money magazine, and in 2003, Golf Week named Sea Trail in America's best residential courses of distinction.
All three courses, by Dan Maples, Rees Jones and Willard Byrd got 4-star ratings from Golf Digest.
The Jones course opened in 1990 and has wide, rolling fairways and mounds and many of the elevated greens are surrounded by water. Water comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes, but those aren't the only hazards. You'll also have to deal with pot and large expanse bunkers. The course stretches to 6,761 from the tips and has a moderately difficult slope rating of 135 from the back tees. The Jones course has four sets of tees, down to 4,912 from the most forward tees.

Nice designed but poorly maintained.
This Rees Jones layout is a challenge. Probably was great years ago. The greens were very bumpy and slow for Bermuda. Hazards were poor. Hadn’t been maintained and made course look like a cheap muni. Practice area was embarrassing. I always look forward to golf in the Myrtle Beach area and try to play different courses. I can’t recommend this course as a must play. It’s a good design but needs some TLC to make it a must play. I also played World Tour , Avocet, The Surf Club, and Eagle Nest. Of all of those, Avocet is a must play and best maintained.

It was Ok not great course was very wet and greens were bumpy.

Over priced based on the name
The course is over priced for what you get. Fairways are in good shape but kept flooded with water. Three holes were cart path only because of the water. Greens are in rough shape and a couple look like they may not make the season. Driving range did not open until 9am so no warmup and the chipping green had not been mowed all summer. Save your money and try somewhere else.

Always love the Jones layout & experience
I’ve been playing the Jones course at Sea Trail for many years on beach trips, and I always enjoy returning and playing this great layout. The course has no bad holes and at least 6-7 great holes.
The staff is friendly, and Sea Trail is open and welcoming to junior golfers.
Candidly, the old beach bermuda greens are struggling this summer. However, that did not impact our enjoyment of the course and round.

Challenging but Friendly
Enjoyed playing ST Byrd. Challenging but friendly if played from appropriate tees as it is not a slugfest......and finesse and accuracy count here too!!!

Don’t waste your money if you’re paying an out of town rate. Greens were brown and dying. Only a few tee boxes actually had grass. 2/10.

A disaster
Booked on GolfNow a week before playing, arrived 20 minutes before T-Time. Line inside the pro-shop took 25 minutes with everyone seemingly having an issue. Finally getting to check in I was told they couldn’t find my reservation. Was told they could get me out on Maples instead. Played Maples as it was my only option (Waited another hour before getting out). Maples staff /customer service by far was superior to what I experienced at Bird course. However, Maples as far as course isn’t great and not worth the money I spent.

Great experience
I was a single and the starter allowed me to go off first in the morning and I was able to play at my own pace and work on some second shots and putts. The course was in great shape and was a great value!

Shabby
Not as I remember it. Played Jones many times and conditions were not up to par. Greens were slow and uneven. Many fairways were sparse and dry and many tee boxes, (seniors) were uncut and patchy. Not what I expected. Play the Byrd course instead. Sea Trails can do better.
