Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club

About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club is situated in Calabash, N.C. a scenic fishing village. The mature woodland landscape provides a secluded and relaxing setting that is ideal for a round of golf. Though it may be peaceful, you still have to be on your toes with plenty of water hazards and sand traps lurking throughout this traditional layout. Mature trees line the fairways, requiring even further accuracy. The golf course is known for its natural crater lakes, which make an appearance on several holes. It is a course that rewards strategy and skill over brute strength. The holes will make you think, but overall Carolina Shores is a forgiving golf course that is playable for all skill levels, especially with five sets of tees ranging from 6,085 yards to a lengthy 6,755 yards.

Bang for your buck
This course is perfect for people that want a relaxed, care free day. The clubhouse staff are some of the most friendly and kind people I’ve met since moving to the area. They remember me when I come in and ask about my girl friend when she’s not tagging along. The greens are coming along and get better every time I play. I love that I can play this course 3 times for the same price as playing once at a lot of other course in the area. Will definitely continue to be a regular at Carolina shores. Yall should come and check them out!
Very Disappointing
Hadn’t played there in years and was very disappointed in the condition of the course. Was embarrassed that I brought down here and chose to play there. It’s a shell of the course that I remembered. Should not be listed on GOLFNOW,com
Poor conditions
I was told by the staff the first tee and green was not in good condition and the rest was in better shape…
But it’s wasn’t true. The whole 18 holes was in very poor condition and bad care. The greens was 80% bare and where there was any grass, it was at least 1” tall. The rough was at least 5” tall and the fairways was nothing but weeds. Needless to say, very poor conditions, not worth the money. The bathrooms out of service and the club house without a/c.
Sad Sad very Sad
Very sad condition. Excellent course layout but in great neglect probably due to ownership/finances
Options are close 9 holes and focus on bringing the other 9 holes back up to “par” so to speak and then do the same to the other 9 holes.
Upon seeing the green on the first hole played I should have gone back and asked for a full refund. Again, It was sad to see a course in that type of condition - they need to rethink what their purpose and intentions are moving forward.
Should not be listed on golfnow.com
very boggy and many greens were in very bad shape. Might be better when it had not been so rainy or when the greens have had time to recover.
Needs HELP!!!!
I am quite sure at one time this course was very good and challenging to play. The problem is it has not been maintained for years. The tee boxes are in rough shape. At one time there were paved cart paths, now it’s just a mix of neglected ruddy asphalt that are filled with dirt, mud or whatever else falls off the trees. The sand traps at one time there was sand in them and they’re still is, but it has mixed with dirt to create what acts like trying to chip off of concrete, that’s only if it’s not filled with water that won’t drain out. The greens aren’t grass. They are a mix of sand and dirt, they are not maintained other than to aerate them which I don’t know why they would do that as there is not any grass in most areas it is probably 70 to 80% sand that you’re trying to putt through and you can’t. This course needs a ton of maintenance and money to bring it back to even a reasonably playable course. I would not recommend this course other than it has a low cost but now I know why.
Greens in terrible shape.
Greens are sandy, rough impossible to putt normally
👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
If there were a less then zero rating this dog track would get it. Should not be on Golf Now it’s robbery and anyone who used golf now should be compensated.
Crap course
Course shouldn’t b open. Absolutely terrible condition
A shadow of it’s former glory.
This course has a beautiful layout. The condition of the course is appalling. The greens have severe damage and are mostly sand greens. Fairways and tees are sparse with grass. The course was premier 35 years ago. Don’t know how it got to the condition it’s in. Sad to see. Would not recommend this course unless it was closed for a year and redone. The staff on the other hand is as friendly as anyone anywhere!!
Good Course in horrific shape
Carolina Shores is a nicely laid out course that was in horrific condition. The greens were mostly sand covered and completely unputtable. The fairways had little grass and had to find patches of clover or other small flower bearing weed to hit your fairway shot from. Several Tees were temporary in the fairway (especially the front tees) or were mud/dirt tees and there were ant hills on a few of the tees. Bunkers were hard packed with little sand. Cart paths were broken asphalt and extremely bumpy. Hold on tight or you'll hurt your back. Was a nice course to play years ago.
OMG!!
I walked off this course after 9 holes. I would have left earlier but I figured that I'd stick it out in case the course condition improved. Was I ever wrong. Probably the worst course I ever played. The land would be better served with a housing development. I don't usually gave bad reviews but it was a waste of time and money and I would like to warn other golfers about this place.
Terrible upkeep
The best thing I can see done here is close the course and build homes. All the greens were covered in sand. Fairways were terrible. I would say this was the worse course I have played in years.
