Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club is situated in Calabash, N.C. a scenic fishing village. The mature woodland landscape provides a secluded and relaxing setting that is ideal for a round of golf. Though it may be peaceful, you still have to be on your toes with plenty of water hazards and sand traps lurking throughout this traditional layout. Mature trees line the fairways, requiring even further accuracy. The golf course is known for its natural crater lakes, which make an appearance on several holes. It is a course that rewards strategy and skill over brute strength. The holes will make you think, but overall Carolina Shores is a forgiving golf course that is playable for all skill levels, especially with five sets of tees ranging from 6,085 yards to a lengthy 6,755 yards.

Off-season

It is the off season for course conditions but the greens were all covered in hydro-seed so they basically were just bunkers with a hole in it. Their tee boxes were not good at all, their fairways were brutal and the rough was non existent (just mud basically). Bunkers full of water, they tried to tell us it was because they got rain on the Saturday but we were playing on the Tuesday so the rain shouldn’t have been an issue. Staff were great though, nice people.

Do not think anyone is doing maintenance

on the course. Have never seen anything so bad.

Pace of play is great because no one is there.

Poor condition but….

This course is in pretty rough shape but for me it serves a purpose. The cost is minimal and it’s not crowded so it’s a good course to teach my wife to play. We can take our time and hit a couple balls when we need to. I would not recommend this course to serious golfers. Remember to go slow on the cart paths if you can find them. I hit my head on the roof of the cart going over a tree root buried under pine needles on the cart path.

Carolina Shores

Course conditions were atrocious even for winter play. No grass whatsoever on fairways and greens. Lots of weeds though. Cart paths need major renovation. Played other course in the area and none were as bad as this one.

Bad Day

The greens are in bad shape. Sand and weed killer applied only one or two greens you can put on. The fairways are wet and full of weeds.

Never Play AgainWor

Worst course conditions that I have ever played and have played 50+ years. If I had to play this course I would quit playing golf and take up tennis. Needs to be removed from your list.

Practice Course. Layout is good. Half of the greens are in poor shape. Course was wet and ball plugged all day. Hard to evaluate. Need to play in drier conditions

Course shouldn't be open.

We played the day after a downpour, we should have known better. The wet conditions were not their fault but it was wet to the point that they should have closed it for the day.

The greens were horrible. Huge areas of nothing but dirt. We quit after 9 holes because there was nothing fun about it.

Get what you pay for…

Listen, this is not a great course right now with the shape of the greens but it all depends on what you want or need. I paid $24 each for 18 holes with a cart. The cart ran out of battery after 14 holes. The greens as other wrote are very poor (for most of them, some were good) but I got out got some exercise and hacked it up because I’m not a good golfer. If I wanted a course in fantastic shape with a good cart I would have paid $80-100. So I won’t bash the place but like the title says you get what you pay for.

Would not recommend this course

It rained the previous night and I was one of just a few golfers on this course today. I can understand the course being sopping wet, but overall this course is in sad shape. The fairways are sparse with grass and overwhelmed by weeds and clover. The greens have been recently sanded so putting was out of the question. This is without a doubt the worst course I've seen in the Myrtle Beach area to date. The cart paths were so bad from the tree roots growing under them that I'll probably need to see a chiropractor later today. Don't do it.
