Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club is situated in Calabash, N.C. a scenic fishing village. The mature woodland landscape provides a secluded and relaxing setting that is ideal for a round of golf. Though it may be peaceful, you still have to be on your toes with plenty of water hazards and sand traps lurking throughout this traditional layout. Mature trees line the fairways, requiring even further accuracy. The golf course is known for its natural crater lakes, which make an appearance on several holes. It is a course that rewards strategy and skill over brute strength. The holes will make you think, but overall Carolina Shores is a forgiving golf course that is playable for all skill levels, especially with five sets of tees ranging from 6,085 yards to a lengthy 6,755 yards.

pooly conditioned
this course design was good but greens bumpy, many with bare spots...little to no yardage marker on the fairways, I got a great deal thru golf now but this course is just not well maintained. Lots of neglect. Would only play hear at reduced pricing
Very enjoyable
We had a marvelous time starting with the staff. Pay attention to how polite these people are to you and your guests. If enjoying your day is important to you...Carolina Shores is the the course to play.
Sunwut
Greens were thin and brown in places very rough to putt. Cart paths were so bad it was hard to ride on them. Even though it was cheaper it wasn't worth playing. Would not go back
don't waste your money
Worst course conditions that I have played in many years. Greens were bare, brown and bumpy. Fairways were weeds, not grass. Bunkers had grass growing in them. Had I known I would never had booked it. Not worth $20 little less the $38 plus that I paid. Will never go back. They have let the course go completely.
First time at Carolin Shores
First time playing Carolina Shores. Nice enough course. The Pro was extremely welcoming and grouped me with a regular Friday men's group that were very nice. With so many great courses in the Myrtle Beach area, I may not make the 30-40 minute drive back to Carolina Shores to play again.
Cold weather golf
The conditions weren't bad for time of year and temperature. Cart paths need work. Lots of water in traps.
Hot Deal....greening up.
Had a hot deal tee time and used a Golf Now promo so it was economical to say the least. Course layout was very good with the back 9 being in nice shape for this time of year. Front was dry but very playable. Cart guy was helpful and the lady in the bar was very welcoming. White tees played long so my level of golfer should play one closer. Course was quiet this day so the pace was enjoyable.
Embarrassment
This is a course which has been let go. The course was dried out from tee to greens and left totally in disrepair. The cart paths were nothing but broken ashfalt and it was evident this course has to be on the verge of a bankruptcy. I am sure no locals ever would pay half the asked rate on GolfNow. This course should be dropped from the system.
Don't bother booking this course
Don't bring your group to play here. The golf course conditions are terrible. The tee boxes are 70-90% sand. The fairways are bare in many many spots. The greens have very little good grass on them. This could potentially be a great course but it needs a lot of work.
Course needs work
The layout was nice. The greens were poor. Fairway were sparse. Hopefully when it greens up the course would be enjoyable to play.
Carolina Shores
The Pro informed us before we started that the greens had been rolled that morning. we found the greens to be hard and lacking some grass. the fairways were in pretty good shape for this time of year. the weather was perfect on this day.
Good for your meoney
Friendly staff. We got on immediately even if we arrived quite early. No fuss at clubhouse, at the bagdrop and at the cart pickup location. Fairways were okay, they could be greener but that's fine with me. Greens not so good but readable and playable. So what if its fake grass. Lots and lots of sand bunkers and I read somewhere they had removed 50. Water comes into play a bit but not seriously. For our handicaps and ability we liked it. However, we took the wrong turn even with the GPS and we toured the community, as we were leaving. Will return. Good buy for our money.
February Golf
The greens were very good/fast for this early in the year. The fairways are still in winter/fall storms condition.
The pace of play was excellent. The staff were very polite and friendly.
New golf carts
Finally got new carts, after several instances of cart break down and no breaks, looks like they got a cash infusion pro shop has more merchandise club house cleaned up some, new tee box markers and water stands but no water coolers yet. I also saw two grounds crew members this time.
Course still needs lots of work, sink holes, cart paths really rough, mowing could be improved?
The greens were pretty fast but most still need some work also.
!st Time
In Myrtle Beach for the 1st time. I was looking for an inexpensive place to play while checking out the area. I got a Hot Deal tee time so I didn't pay much. The person in the pro shop was very nice and even gave me a complimentary course guide. The course was in pretty rough shape. I enjoyed the lay out and could see a lot of potential. Lots of trees down from the hurricane last fall. Cart paths were extremely rough. Very little grass on the fairways. The greens were basically spray painted dirt, especially the front nine. I told my wife I was glad we didn't pay more than $20.
Getting better
This course languished for many years under a poor management structure. The new owners are trying to bring it back, and their efforts are paying off. The fairways were in good shape. The greens, however, were pretty rough. Hopefully, the course will continue to improve under the new management. Looking forward to playing the course again in the spring when I return to the area
