Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club is situated in Calabash, N.C. a scenic fishing village. The mature woodland landscape provides a secluded and relaxing setting that is ideal for a round of golf. Though it may be peaceful, you still have to be on your toes with plenty of water hazards and sand traps lurking throughout this traditional layout. Mature trees line the fairways, requiring even further accuracy. The golf course is known for its natural crater lakes, which make an appearance on several holes. It is a course that rewards strategy and skill over brute strength. The holes will make you think, but overall Carolina Shores is a forgiving golf course that is playable for all skill levels, especially with five sets of tees ranging from 6,085 yards to a lengthy 6,755 yards.

Cart path ?? Photo submitted by ewallers on 10/26/2019
Greens: pretty sparse, but it is winter
Fairways: reasonable conditions
Tees: some okay, some pretty bad
Bunkers: good overall, some wet areas
Cart paths: very rough, lots of root damage
Layout: a few interesting holes, some weak holes
Staff: outstanding, very friendly and helpful
Nice afternoon
A warm afternoon, we had the course virtually to ourselves. Conditions were very dry, surprising after Matthew. This made the greens really speedy. Debris, as expected, was pretty thick in the rough and some of the traps need work, but overall the course was in good shape considering. Our cart's steering felt a little wobbly, perhaps due to the very bumby cart paths.
We had a good time though and we might go back some day.
Not even worth GolfNow rate
Once upon a time great course gone bad. I should have known on practice putting green that things were not good,,,,,so sandy and little grass that I thought I was putting on the beach....and course greens just as bad....a joke. Back tee boxes were not mowed or maintained as well as fairways ands rough...bunkers not raked. Does anyone ever play back tees anymore? Not worth half the price. Hope someone will buy course and restore/maintain......if not probably wont be in business in a year. How do members put up with it?
Won't go back
A poorly maintained course. Two carts ran out of power. Another twosome had a similar problem. Lots of hard pack dirt. Greens below average. Even for an inexpensive warm up round... Not worth the price.
Goat Track
Pros: Good Layout with Potential
A good course for mom or dad to introduce the kids to golf.
Not crowded at all
Cons: Everything else
This course is being operated on the cheap. Bungee Cords to secure your bags to the cart and photo copies score cards that are such awful quality that the details for the Red and Blue tees are blacked out with too much toner. The rough is not tended and they let the fairways grow so many days that when they cut the grass, what is left behind is 2 inch grass clippings that completely hide many of the fairways causing burn out regions due to the sun baking down on the grass clippings. This was evident on every hole. My group hit many shots down the middle of the fairway but couldn't find our ball due to the thick grass clippings. The sand traps are washed out and not tended and if you like to fly the greens and stick your shot, forget about it! No sticking these greens. If you are here for vacation, do yourself a favor and visit another course. I would not return for a free round.
poor conditions
Fairways were covered with big piles of grass clippings where it appeared they had mowed after many days. The rough hadn't been mowed in over a week. Greens had been aerated and not sanded much leaving big holes. Sand traps were washed out with hardly any sand. Not what I expected for a beach area course.
Great Value
The course was fun and the staff was amazing. While it was not the most beautiful course I have played on the strand area, it was fun and well worth the money. The staff is great!!! Made everything better. Would go back again.
Carolina shores Golf
Pretty basic, I found the course to be in not so good conditions, the cart paths were were uprooted, there were a few sink holes i encountered and the grass clippings were on the fair ways . The club house staff were very nice, and welcoming.
father
course was excellent . people very friendly
Terrible Day at Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club
Definitely avoid playing this course unless you get a crazy price deal.
Ready for this, our power cart had no brakes, or barely functioning brakes.
The person responsible for greeting golfers and placing your bag on the cart, did not even say hello to me and my wife, until providing some basic course instructions, talk about unfriendly.
The pro shop attendant asked for our GolfNow reservation #, even though it was on their booking system/computer, and questioned me if i actually paid for my round of golf directly with GolfNow, which I did online.
The greens were bare, the fairway was un-groomed, as well tough to distinguish fairway from rough terrain on certain spots.
I realize now why this course has a Golfnow 2.5 star rating, lesson to me, pay attention to these ratings.
Not sure about the correct term, however locals probably know this course and avoid it, so tourists i assume keep the place operational. Too bad as well, as this course is located in a very nice neighborhood.
Nice layout
Challenging layout, but that's where it ends. The course was in terrible condition...everything from the tees to fairways and greens have had no attention paid to them. It's looks as if they're getting ready to sell it for residential development.
The cart paths weren't fit to drive on...tree roots coming up through them everywhere. The carts themselves were in poor shape...bungee cords holding your bags onto them, duct tape holding the windshields in place and most carts had no brakes. Several of the carts we were using barely made it through the round, they were running out of battery power and my playing partner had to walk the last two holes.
No beverage cart service either.
My group will definitely not be back here!
horrible course
this is a must never play course. the worst course in myrtle beach area.no tee boxes or fairways or greens.mud sand dirt if this is what you like this course is for you.go play bay tree its been closed for years.save your money.
A very poorly maintained course
Not worth playing at any price
Terrible
This course is in terrible condition. The fairways are mud and the greens have no grass. Our group will not be playing this course ever again...
Worst course in Myrtle Beach!
This golf course should not be open,it's a disgrace teeing ares are poor fairways are a far too wet to play. The greens are probably the worst greens I've ever seen in my life.
If anyone out there has 10 to 20 million dollars spare ........then don't spend it here it'll be a waste of time effort and money! I'm sorry but that's the truth!
We were greeted well and were given a discounted return ticket, the starter/ bag man warned us of the poor greens, but they were much worse than he said!
Don't know about this one
Good thing my group were able to get a hot deal on GN because I would have asked for my money back if I had to pay full price. The course was in rough shape. The tee boxes, the fairways, and greens were not in the best of shape. The staff were really nice and friendly.
Horrible
The course was in absolutely terrible shape. It should not be open for play.
Don't waste your time or money here. The greens, tees, fairways, bunkers and rough were all brutal.
Really disappointing.
Good Value
Course was a good value for the money. With all the rain it was cart path only. With this time of year greens were a little ruff.
